PLEASE don’t ever remove these! I go back from time to time and watch them to reminisce. It’s bitter sweet but I love it. Makes me think of my childhood: we lived in Brantwood Park, right down Powerline rd. and would ride our bikes to the Cinemas Three and spend our allowance. It also reminds me of my recently departed mom and shopping there with her. Also Xmas shopping for my family, later in life as a young adult. My mom also worked at Fun Town, giving change etc. And my aunt Helen worked at the restaurant near the Woolco entrance.
Thanks for this one. It's so nice to know that I have shared something that helps bring back some nice memories for you. I first started going there in early 1984, and remember the donut place, It's About Time, located in the hall, heading towards Zehr's which was at the top of that hill, across from Canada Trust and a craft store.
Thank you for posting this. I worked at Lil Juli's from 1993 until it was closed around 1997. It was my first job. I can see my old boss in the video. I live in the Toronto area now and when people ask me about my first job I say "I used to sell hot dogs and other snacks out of a carosel in the middle of the mall"...no one ever gets it but now I can show them this video. Thanks!
What a blast from the past. That's when on- line shopping was never heard of and people actually met and talked to each other. Some things were really better then......
Wow - really interesting! I left Brantford in 1973, and have been back 10 or 11 times in 37 years. So, I see things as a sort of "slice of time", with many changes every visit. This is the same feel I get from your video.
My mom use to give me quarters for fun town. Biway was awesome back then. Marks and Spencer's was a fantastic store as well. Thanks for the great memories from when I was a kid.
I remember when they built that mall. We lived in Fairview suburb, close by. It seemed like it was almost out in the country where they built it - outside the city limits. I used to work at Woolco, on the checkout, evenings and weekends when I was in high school. We had to punch in all the prices, the number code of the item, by hand, and then give the change, calculating it in our head. No scans back then!
Wow thanks for posting. I'm dating myself but I worked at Family Fair for a short while. It later became Bi-Way. Later I worked at the Fotomat booth. Heck I even remember in my really young days when it wasn't even covered in! Thanks again for posting. Certainly brings back lots of memories.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember going once a month with my mom and brother for fries at Bell City Restaurant in the mall and then we would get 50 cents to spend at Butts and Bpws
Oh man, the memories. I was 7 when this was filmed and can still remember all of this. Used to bug my mum to go to funtown arcade every visit. I believe the woolco had an ice cream booth on the way out too.
I’m not sure what ice cream booth you are referring to, unless you are referring to that what was between the front of Wilco, and where Bell city restaurant was kind of in the main hallway. If it is the one I am thinking of, you could get soft pretzels from there as well.
Pretty much everything has disappeared from this place. Like everything in Brantford it's just become an empty shell of a building with a handfull of stores desparately struggling to get by. Not quite as bad as the market square, though. My most fond memories from the Brantford Mall were of the arcade. I didn't get to go there as often as I'd have liked to, but I had a blast any time I did.
thanks for posting this, that is how I remember it as a kid I would have been 5 then. I remember going to woolco I also remember there being a electronics repair place there too.
great video hans. do u have any other brantford videos. I work at zehrs the only store left. I was wondering if you or anyone else knows, if the Bi-Way became part of Zehrs. Judging by the video it looks like Bi-Way is at the dame end of Zehrs. Also was the movie theatre there taken at this point. Seeing that radio shack became bulk barn, and the theatre used to be across form bulk barn, do u remember the theatre being acorss from radio shack
I love to see brantford back in the old days I was born in 1996 but still remember going to the market square and woolco i think plz post more if you have them
Thanks for posting this! Do you remember the name of the restaurant that was there? It had a dark decor and I believe the mascot was a country style man with a beard? They had the BEST burgers!
This reminds me so much of Crossroads Shopping Centre Mall that was in Transcona at one time before Wal-Mart bought out Woolco, remember playing (The Ninja Kids) at the small arcade, good times
I worked at this mall in the late 70`s at Agnew-Surpass. I lived on Brantwood drive road. I live in BC now and when I go there now on Google earth street view, it seems all the cheap homes that were built there back then are gone and replaced with more expensive homes. Does anyone know if those cheaper homes were torn down?
I remember this place being empty the store with tarrot cards n running into walter Gretzky n standing there for a long time while my grand father n him caught up on stuff.then years later at a movie someone tried breaking into my brothers car messed up the door pretty good
Hi I see my comment hard to believe I posted that 10 years ago, wow where did the time go? but anyway I wanted to comment on the Lil Juli's going there with my mom as a kid and getting pina coloda it was served in a white and orange cup the cup also had a bit of yellow on it as well, all the good stores gone.
Yeah I tried contacting the mall and asking if they knew anything about the statue and the artist and they said it sounded pretty cool but nobody working there now remembered it and it was likely removed during renovations in the 90s.
I've got a question Does anyone know if Lil Juli's from the Brantford mall still around? Reason I ask is because there is one in Brantford but I was wondering if it's the same one or no? please message me back thank you
Unfortunately, that is the only copy I have. Much of the commentary is on the original VHS footage where I took this from. I don’t think I know where the original VHS cassette tape is.
The death knell of the mall was when all the venders took over the walkways and started selling really really aggressively 😅... My parents always dreaded it when they took me and my brother there 😂 We didn't even beg for anything... it was that bad. Then the "great recession" hit, and that's what everything took a huge hit. It hasn't been quite the same since.
wasn't skoopers white bakery? i miss those sugar cookies as a kid with the tiny balls on top .I miss that mall . sure beats the other crappy mall we have here

YO I ALWAYS THOUGHT I IMAGINED THAT CIRCULAR POGO STAND! AHHHHHHHH that was actually there! MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ARE TRUE, IT WAS NOT A DREAM
An interesting snapshot of what your typical mall was like in the early 90s (in Ontario, Canada anyway). Thanks for posting.
Awe I miss Muntz, this mall was truly a icon of Brantford
My mom use to give me quarters for fun town. Biway was awesome back then. Marks and Spencer's was a fantastic store as well. Thanks for the great memories from when I was a kid.
Love this trip down memory lane. I especially enjoy the fonts of each store. And Skoopers was White's Bakery.
I remember that Ramp by the Zehers, I use to ride carts down it all the time!
I remember when they built that mall. We lived in Fairview suburb, close by. It seemed like it was almost out in the country where they built it - outside the city limits. This is such a great lookback in time. Thanks!

So many memories from my child hood happened here, I grew up down the road from this mall, thanks for posting this.
I was born after this was turned into Walmart and Cineplex and it's cool to see what is used to be like.

What Classics Hans Last! These should be worth $$$$$ ...really! Thanks for sharing.
What a classy mall!!
Yes it was definitely good. Innoway it’s too bad it is gone now. Thanks for the comment.
Ahh yes..stores located close to each other in easy walking distance with climate controlled comfort. WHAT A CONCEPT!!

I'm glad there is some decent footage of old Brantford, I would have been just over 2 y/o when this video was shot. crazy
Great memories - I worked at Woolco and Reitman's and used to have my breaks at Lil Juli.
great video hans. do u have any other brantford videos. I work at zehrs the only store left. I was wondering if you or anyone else knows, if the Bi-Way became part of Zehrs. Wow. That mall is closed down now, and for about 5 years before it was closed down, it had only like 2 stores left. Bulk barn and the carpet store.
Thanks for posting this! Do you remember the name of the restaurant that was there? It had a dark decor and I believe the mascot was a country style man with a beard? They had the BEST burgers!
The name of the restaurant was Bell City.
Must say that old mall looks better than the crappy one they have here rn🤣
I remember in front of bi-way there was a small stand for lottery tickets n stuff and that Blacks was where we got our photos done!
wow.. it was actually popular back then.. after that it went way down hill and now its finally back and running again
This reminds me so much of Crossroads Shopping Centre Mall that was in Transcona at one time before Wal-Mart bought out Woolco, remember playing (The Ninja Kids) at the small arcade, good times

THIS WAS A LONG TIME A GO COOL

Was this the mall with the statue of the two figures one standing atop the other's shoulders?
I personally, do not remember seeing such a statue, but it’s possible.
I’m pretty sure that was at the Lynden Park Mall.
Yeah I tried contacting the mall and asking if they knew anything about the statue and the artist and they said it sounded pretty cool but nobody working there now remembered it and it was likely removed during renovations in the 90s.
@Whoozinga
Or the stained glass windows that led to the back to the washroom. I always remembered the same waitress was there all the time.
I've got a question Does anyone know if Lil Juli's from the Brantford mall still around? Reason I ask is because there is one in Brantford but I was wondering if it's the same one or no? please message me back thank you
Do you have this footage available without the commentary? :)
Actually I worked at the Lynden Park mall. Is this the same?
conifergreen2 no, this is the Brantford Mall out on King George Road by Powerline Road
wow basically everything's changed except the way people in Brantford dress!
Was that the lynden park mall?
No, this was a mall where the Galaxy cinema and Walmart are now.
@Whoozinga
Used to go for fries and gravy at Bell city as a kid!
Hey, if you lost a mall, you can build fast food restaurants around Amazon buildings...
wasn't skoopers white bakery? i miss those sugar cookies as a kid with the tiny balls on top
.I miss that mall . sure beats the other crappy mall we have here
This Mall Was Torn Down Sept 1 2008 there re doing it now!
no no no, the one at brantford mall became K-mart, it became walmart in early 2000,
A better time.
I like the other mall in Brantford better
Lil Jiliies Snack Bar
Lol, spent way to much time and money in that arcade in the 80s!!!
My god cars were ugly in 1990
