iIdont think the highest sub index value is the AQI .if that happens then for NH3(ammonia)-range is b/w 0-200 (ug/m^3) So if the conc. of NH3 is 150(say),then according to what Maam has said the AQI would be 150 which is not in the given range of the series of which it is a part of.
SO it had to be some weighted mechanism not direct value of sub index.
