There's no better ambient music than that that the universe plays to us, I suppose. All the more haunting when you think that all the instruments of this song are astronomical entities, the entirety of the heavenly stars and planets of the night sky, all playing their music together for this piece of music that humans have been able to capture. I think this is an incredibly beautiful track.
"Music is a very important and powerful substance, and all the planets in the universe make music. It's called music of the spheres. They all make a different note; they make harmony. So there's harmony even in the universe as we speak." Words by Michael Jackson
Open as many new youtube tabs as you can without logging into youtube and play multiple planets plus this vid, you can't even begin to put a price on the sound :) you may have to adjust the volume a bit for each one to match but when mixed correctly it's excellent! I put these together: Jupiter, Jupiters moon IO, this vid, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn, it was worth it.
And BAM! 11 Years went by just like that! Unreal! Yet still only but an unnoticeable flash in the cosmic scale of space time, might as well have been 11 million years.
This is perfect. Reminds me that the cosmos are stranger and more alien than we can possibly imagine - but at the same time, somewhere deep inside, this music gives us the deeply familiar, warm and safe sensation of being in utero. Yes, that's a good description - I think it's very appropriate to say that these sounds make me feel as if we're all in the womb of the universe, like the 'starchildren' of '2001: A Space Odyssey'. The music is primal, raw and like the pulsing life of the cosmos.
Hey, those who want to buy - I just downloaded 5+ hours of MP3 from Amazon.com for only 6.49! Each track is about 30 min long. It's incredible! They all sound great and are so different. Thanks for posting this on RUclips!
this is incredible... listening to the sounds of space. over a thousand years ago people would be horrified of this, yet we sit here and this has become normal to us.
i could listen to the planets all day long. it gives me a feeling i absolutely cannot describe.. it's like they are talkin. in a creepy but also for me reassuring way. strange feeling to know that they really exist - far far away in unknown space, somewhere in the dark.
Picked these up at Best Buy years ago when I was still in college. I have them on my iPod and PC now. #3 is great white noise when trying to sleep or study. And it kind of sounds like the ambient background engine rumble on Star Trek TNG. Personally, I think they all sound quite unique from one another, each invoking a distinct mood. Though I do grant their relatively discordant rhythms would make them sound all alike to a casual listener. Good to see they survived. Thanks for posting this.
In a month I'm moving across the country to start my studies about the mystery that is called the universe. All I can think of is how nervous I am, and this calmed me down immensely. So, thank you! This is brilliant.
Thank you for posting this. These recordings were part of a 5 disc set. I had one of them and thought it to be 'the most amazing recording I've ever listened to'. The CD inserts gave some Technical specs on what some of the sounds were. Events such as plasma waves, planets and moons in resonance, etc. (I can't recall them all). That being said, I can only wonder what the sounds are. Solar wind, lightning, asteroids, magnetic fields? @ 04:00 it actually sounds like a Choir of Angels. Thanks NASA
Reminds me of, unable to hear a sound in the forest if not in attendance. Maybe echoes of a distant accurince .What a vast ocean we live in. With no apparent ceiling.
@Netuno2008 This is from description: "Although space is a virtual vacuum, this does not mean there is no sound in space. Sound does exist as electronic vibrations. The specially designed instruments on board the Voyagers performed special experiments to pick up and record these vibrations, all within the range of human hearing." These vibrations were taken from charged particles, magnetosphere, electromagnetic "space noise" in an audible range and converted into sound, i think.
I can't help but think of all those space series and movies that came out before they even discovered this... and how much of the sound effects and music incorporates sounds like these!
These are electromagnetic pulses. Since space is a vacuum, there is no sound (as we know it) but, there are vibrations within the range of human hearing (20-20,000 cycles per second) the Voyager recordings were compressed electronically down to its fundamental harmonic frequency...at this range, we can hear them! All that aside, I find it "transcending" somewhat like "white noise"...where it can sound like the wind, ocean, a choir or whatever you feel! It whispers and calls, welcome home!
MelancholyOblivion True, but sound exists in space as electromagnetic vibrations, and the sensitive radiotelescopic instruments on Voyagers 1 and 2 can detect this. You are hearing the sound of the planet's magnetic fields, including the reverberation off the rings, and the atmosphere itself.
Pardon me for saying this however does anyone "feel" that when they listen to this? That feeling that there is something alive, and very alien to us out there. It also gives me the feeling of hearing through liquid.... Its like I can feel the very pulse of the cosmos and what ever entity we are inside of.
I remember, I was in this band, and we were jammin some shit like this.. and this guy was like, VOYAGER 1 RIPOFF!!..... So we were like, FUK OFF SPACE DUDE!!! VOYAGER 1 RIPPED US OFF.. He left, but it ruined the gig,...
OMG! Blast your surround speakers on this one and take yourself on the ultimate trip to where nobody else can go in your mind and hang on to your seats, this is f#*&^ing AWESOME to listen to and feel!
Fabulous ! " ...culmea dulcii muzice de sfere Ce-o aude cum se naşte din rotire şi cădere. " Geniul lui Eminescu e reconfirmat ! Mihai Eminescu, Romanian poet of genius, wrote these lyrics in XIX century !!! Approximately translation: " ... the sweet music of the planets Born of their turning and falling."
I don't want to seem bashing to a fellow believer's view since I am just human and therefore fallible,so I think a good way to finish this is to say despite all our differences we are sons and servants of the Most High. So some day I hope to see you in paradise! The Lord be with you.
Although space is a virtual vacuum, this does not mean there is no sound in space. Sound does exist as electronic vibrations. The specially designed instruments on board the Voyagers performed special experiments to pick up and record these vibrations, all within the range of human hearing.
Correct. It is a vacuum. Everything is made of matter, and matter exists everywhere. Light could not travel through space if there was no matter in space, so the matter in space is "hit" by the electromagnetic waves caused by the planets and the instruments pick it up and convert it into sound, it's how microphones work on earth, and how you can feel bass without seeing it or in some cases if it's really deep, hear it.That's the best way i can describe it.I'm sure someone else will explainbetter
I know how you're feeling. I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of Total Awe and Fear. Maybe of smallness and insignificance. It's totally instinctual to fear the Unknown. When it first started up, I shuddered. I'm still shuddering. I just hope whatever is out there isn't going to blow the hell out of us anytime soon...
This is amazing to listen to. In our life time, i hope we will find life out there. i believe we are being watched by other civilizations, the question is, will any govererment actually tell us about it? i have my doubts. Thanks for posting.
Yeah, it was streamed years ago. They never intended for the Voyager craft to return. Both of the Voyagers were sent into space with some music, images, and a message from Earth on a record in case any intelligent life ever found them.
True! This is an invitation to see an artist theory on the physics of light and time! This is based on just one equation (E= ˠ M˳C²) ∞ the Lorentz contraction of space and time is between the energy and mass. The greater the energy the greater the contraction of space and the slower time will run. Mass will increase relative to this and each ref-frame can be seen as a vortex in space formed by the rate that time flows. The brackets represent the boundary condition of the ref-frame
Actually, I'm thinking God is pretty freakin' happy we finally noticed how cool space is. Seeing as how MUCH of it there is, it must be pretty important to God.
for those of you who think we did not land on the moon I can't believe you would not believe that the human race is not a great enough race to receive it's much deserved prowess for accomplishing such an amazing test as to land on the moon.
@blackberries69 that's kiiiiinda right. Of course sound waves can't travel through space, because sound waves basically require air to travel. And snce space is a giant vacuum, sound is unable to travel. However, the planets, stars, etc. All emit radioactive...radio frequencies basically, and radio telescopes back on earth, or even on board satellites can pick up these radio waves and convert them to sound waves. Just like how a radio station broadcasts music
@StormValleyStables For details, you might want to visit NASA's website. Google this: NASA Eerie Sounds of Saturn Radio Emissions The first link should be a nasa.gov website that explains how they produce these sounds. Very interesting. These recordings are not played in real-time. The audio was compressed - so 73 seconds corresponds to 27 minutes.
May I ask please. Is this sound is just real or just hand-made with Nuendo or any music composing software? Just asking politely, no meant to be such an arse.. Thanks..I love the sound anyway...
Aren't theories rather the best explanations we have as of now, whereas laws are properties we don't really have an explanation for but can test consistently?
The same Eminescu wrote in 1880's, before Einstein's theory of relativity: " So far it is athwart the blue/ To where yon star appears,/ That for its light to reach our view/ Has needed thousand years.// Maybe that ages gone it shed / Its glow, then languished in the skies,/ Yet only now its rays have sped/ Their journey to our eyes.// The icon of the star that died/ Slowly the vault ascended; / Time was ere it could first be spied,/ We see now what is ended."- To the Star
We are part of the Universe. As Carl Sagan stated, "We are a way for the Universe to know itself." Our existence is another example of the miracle that is the Universe. We, and all alien civilizations, are definitely not insignificant.

Amazing. Thank you for the upload.

4:04 Choir Voice like an old mellow tron
so awesomely spooky
What's even trippier is that I read your comment as the recording got to that part.
It's incredible how those sounds are similar to my imagination of perfect sci- fi movie music. Actually for some reason they sound familiar.
Hey, those who want to buy - I just downloaded 5+ hours of MP3 from Amazon.com for only 6.49! Each track is about 30 min long. It's incredible! They all sound great and are so different. Thanks for posting this on RUclips!

Thank you for confirming my suspicion! Although I always found these recordings fascinating, I was reserved as to how authentic they are.

The beautiful & mysterious sounds of deep space are like a symphony when you relax & listen ... ~peace&love~
Very intimidating and scary but beautiful nontheless. I get the same feeling as when swimming over very deep water.
4:05-4:12: naturally occurring music, with a full chord. Nature is simply amazing.
@Netuno2008 This is from description:

MelancholyOblivion What you hear is basically radio waves coming from the planets, translated into sound by Voyager 1's equipment.

I can sleep to this ambiance. Absolutely Beautiful

This is incredible, thanks blackberry.
It amazes me how comm signals can travel over such a distance.... it'd be interesting to see the message they stored on it.
beautiful! *sniff*
i listened to the whole ten minutes.
I can listen to this for forever, it's so magical
Daaamn, i want to explore the galaxy after listening to that melody. Why oh why was i born so early.
If this is sounds in space, i would like to go there right now. This makes me relax and i really need that to fall asleep!! Me need go.

@EZShrike , because everything comes down to it. great sights/sounds lead us to ask the big questions.
Correct. It is a vacuum. Everything is made of matter, and matter exists everywhere. i've felt emotions i've never felt before watching this video
No, these are real radio signals from the solar system, although the playback speed has been increased so they can be heard.
@blackberries69 wow, that's SO cool! Thanks for explaining! I love learning new things, especially about the universe... it's just so... COOL!
@StormValleyStables Yes, but the thing is - they weren't recorded as sounds. NASA had to convert the collected data from Voyager into audible sound.
Relaxing yet eerie at the same time. Very interesting
this is absolutely blowing my mind!
I know how you're feeling. I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of Total Awe and Fear. Maybe of smallness and insignificance. It's totally instinctual to fear the Unknown. Absolutely amazing, love it...
Sómente a NASA para proporcionar estes magníficos vídeos. fotos e sons.
I came for the rather amazing sounds of space and planets!
and i look in the comments to see-arguments!
Alas 'tis RUclips's great Symbol,
the universe sounds wonderful
This kinda stuff is real, just gotta b openminded&understanding, then u will b able to receive it... :-)
These albums are so cool.

Infinite. Deep. Amazing.
very intresting and scary and facinating at the same time,it truelly is a symphony
4:55 - the sound of a spacecraft (or UFO), reflects on the satellite vibration. Whatever it was that was troubling
This is the ambience that has been used in the Robert Helpmann channel.
Yeah, it was streamed years ago. They never intended for the Voyager craft to return. Both of the Voyagers were sent into space with some music, images, and a message from Earth on a record in case any intelligent life ever found them.

Whether you are religious or not, the world we live in is a beautiful place. There is no denying it.

I like your answer. Thank you.

I listen to this when i get angry and egotistical. It's like the universe telling me "_you ain't fucking shit, buddy_"
Thanks! (:
It's All about harmony !!
Not magnetic but in essence yes, these are actually Radio waves. I hope I don't come across rude, sorry.
@Polterguist sounds may also travel as electromagnetic waves

And no, we can't hear it "as is".
@MrOpenstandards get youtube downloader. after you dl a video, you then can convert it to mp3...

Astonishing
Peaceful
