Seventeen are so close to Carats ..and they mentioned they watching reactions ..so I’m pretty sure they do know you..at least one member definitely know you 😍🤩
Hi Seanna! I had an exam an hour after your live started so I left and I am watching the rest now. But I wanted to thank you for giving me something to keep myself calm while I set everything up for my exam. And I also wanted to thank you in general for providing this safe and caring space for us and because you are adults it seriously makes me feel like there is secure, stable place here. And Anna's laugh reminds me of my aunt's laugh who I rarely see so I love to hear you laugh so much! Thank you ( ◜‿◝ )♡
Hello Seanna, I'm a Korean carat and I have a question so I left this comment. I learned the word "tribe" has to be used very carefully from this channel and I'm so thankful of it(.not also this word, but many English words thanks😁) But as Korean word "부족" doesn't mean the same meaning in U.S and doesn't have any meaning of racism or making fun of other nations and races, so it's ok to say 부족 as a joke in Korea. I think the problem comes from different cultures and translations.부족 is a normal word and every korean use and joke with it in Korean, it's just its own korean word in Korean culture. I think SVT can say 부족틴 as a Korean and translation can say crowd, party or throng. How about using Boojokteen or Bujokteen except for Tribalteen? course already going change the word lackingteen but I think it doesn't send a complete meaning of 부족틴. I wish you see my comment and talk about it:)
Hi hi, thank you so much for your comment! I think there is no "correct" answer to your question, so what I say will be my personal opinion. If Korea lived in a cultural vacuum (aka Korean people only know and interact with Korean culture and never hear about any tribes in other places), I would agree that 부족 can be used as a joke within Korea. However, this is not the case for any culture in the world today. We see information from other cultures and without realizing it, these cultural influences become part of the way we think. When I lived in Korea and taught English at a school, I personally saw people laugh about some parts of Native American culture (like wearing feathers, chanting, or using drums) like it was a joke. My Native American friend who was teaching in Korea also saw this and felt hurt. I also know another Native American friend who experienced something similar while teaching in Japan. There are also jokes in Korea like saying “인디안밥” while hitting someone as a 벌칙, the snack name with a Native American character, etc. which do not respect Native American culture. In my opinion, Native American culture is often treated as a joke abroad because of 1. Lack of education in the USA about Native American history and culture, because our education system was set up by white people who want to pretend like the horrible history never happened, and 2. White American culture which treated Native Americans poorly led to negative stereotypes about Native Americans, which got exported to Korea (and other countries) through colonialism and the American military. I don’t know as much about native tribes from Africa, South America, South Asia, and Polynesian islands but I know many of these cultures have been treated poorly under European Colonialism. Therefore, it would feel wrong for me to use the words "tribe" or "부족" ever as part of a joke; I would only use the words if I am talking about someone’s cultural identity and they choose that word (for example, “My friend is from the ___ tribe in the Philippines.”) But of course, I can’t stop anyone in Korea from using the word(s) in the way that they choose to. Thanks for reading this long comment! Let me know if you'd like a Korean translation, Sean can help with that :) -
Hi Sean and Anna, I'm late to this but I enjoy watching your videos and appreciate your effort in teaching Korean with Gose. Aside from that, you are also sharing life lessons or educating us on important matters. I'm curious if you tried to join any Seventeen fansigns. I hope you'll get a chance to join and relay your thoughts directly to the members about all the things that Seventeen or Gose staff said or did that they should be educated on. I remember seeing a video of fan who educated an idol through a fansign. The idol also apologized afterwards during the fansign. I'm hoping that a Carat would be able to do this as well during one of the fansigns. May I ask if you are willing to share a copy of the email you sent to Pledis? I would like to email Pledis about this but I don't speak Korean and don't know where to send it. Is it too much to ask you to share the email template with your subscribers/viewers so they can also email Pledis? This is only for your subscribers/viewers who are willing to email Pledis and if they share the same opinion (not to force it upon them). It is also a convenient time to email Pledis about it since Seventeen does not have any activities at the moment. The staff might have more time to check their emails. I hope this comment or request does not come across as annoying or bothersome. I just want to help educate Seventeen and Gose staff so we can avoid these issues in the future. Thank you.
I’d love to join a fansign someday 🥺 And tell them how much they mean to me, as well as how I hope we can all do better. That would mean the world to me. I don’t really try to join fansigns at the moment because I think purchasing so many albums is not environmentally friendly or wallet friendly. But maybe someday! I believe we put a link to the email we sent in our 부족오락관 live episode description. If it’s not there now, we’ll add it in in the near future. Thank you for asking and caring about what we have to say ☺️
I wish I could also join a fansign and say those things as well. I think it would be very helpful and a great start even if just one international Carat gets to talk about these things during the fansign. I checked the description for the previous live streams but I couldn't find the link to your email. I was still able to send an email to Pledis using some of the email templates (for previous issues) that I found online. I just added the recent issues. Unfortunately, I had to rely on Papago which I guess is better than nothing. I hope that through your livestreams, Carats will become more open-minded and care more about these global issues. Thanks again for your time. 😊 By the way, I'm still rewatching your previous livestreams (haven't caught up yet). I just skipped to this one since it is a new episode. Hope I can join your next live. 😊
