  • The World Bank experts meet with TEAM University students to talk about contemporary poverty
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is marked on October 17. Every year this date inspires the global campaign to build awareness of poverty reduction gains and setbacks and highlight the interconnectivity between poverty and other global challenges (e. g. climate change, gender inequality, access to education and health).
The global campaign also stimulates the discussion of solutions and innovation showing how countries and societies can, or have, made progress in creating quality jobs, reducing poverty, and improving people’s lives. TEAM University decided to join the campaign this year and motivate its students to share their thoughts on possible solutions to achieve these goals in Uzbekistan.
The World Bank’s mission is to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity, which it tries to achieve its operations in developing countries. The Bank has been also operating in Uzbekistan since 1992. That’s why TEAM University invited Marco Mantovanelli, World Bank Country Manager, to discuss with students international and national efforts in this area.
In his lecture, Mr. Mantovanelli outlined the situation with poverty across the globe and in Uzbekistan, as well as talked about the World Bank’s global and local operations to reduce poverty and boost economic growth in developing countries.
After his presentation, Mr. Mantovanelli invited students to share their ideas on how the private sector could contribute to poverty reduction by creating new jobs and improving the well-being of people. What ideas did they present to the jury consisting of several World Bank experts?
