His has to be how jack stauber makes music
Maybe it’s the same folktek version, 🤷🏽♂️
For some reason, the tones and oscillations are reminding me of some of sounds used on Thom Yorke solo records, or the Atoms for Peace album .
that was my exact thought, must be similar settings on whatever synths he uses
Indeed. It also sounds a bit like Idioteque, on Kid A.
@@unexpectedit3m that was a sample of Paul Lansky
@@SuperiFox oh wow, didn't know that. I've just listened to the original piece, that's crazy. I'm kind of bummed to learn it's not Radiohead, I always found these intervals absolutely beautiful and weird.

This is like if the Omnichord's cool older brother went off to uni and came back all weeiirrdd (but even cooler) 🙃
Really interesting instrument! Not heard of it before. Really liking this style of video, would be great to see more tutorial/explanatory videos in the future. Your videos are beautiful and an inspiration!
Thank you very much! I will do more, it is actually fun. I do like to talk about music creation and instruments anyway.
Just recently stumbled on this channel was blown away from the amazing modified instrument and just recently acquired one. thanks for the post and love your content..... you have some serious taste in sound sir.
I think I need to order a modded Omnichord and some sustain sausages.
Both are awesome. Just tested the sausage and it works, you can see it on my instagram stories.
omg did you really? I hope this isn't a joke, please be real. If so, can you post it somewhere? I'd love to see it hahahaa.
@@Hainbach Love it!
Yay! New kind of videos from Hainbach, that's so great!!!
Great demo, thank you! I've been in love with the "BoC sound" since forever and this thing shines.
You should do more reviews of your instruments - you have a very interesting selection. I always enjoy watching you play something interesting.
Thank you! It was the first time I did something like this. I will do it again, maybe point me at something you find interesting and I might do a video on that.
Personally I'm really curious to know about your fx chain and techniques, like panning and infinite delays. Some old gear you use like Nagra, PMD-222 and Telefunken stuff looks fun and I would be interested how you ended up with some stuff. How you select your gear for a set, what works and what doesn't. I think a lot of musicians are watching you will appreciate the glimpse of the process in general.
Ok, I should do a tape special then. Good idea!
This really sounded like the Hyperlight Drifter soundtrack in places. Loved it
JCWolf2 YES
The producer Kenny segal has an omnichord modded like this, his live performance of 'goodbye' is amazing
Man I haven't ever seen these before and now I want one. Amazing sound. Strange design
great video. love your music videos, but these kind of videos where I can learn something too are just fantastic. thanks
So carefully done. Just lovely. I think Weisswurst would work beautifully. It would even match the enclosure.
Wonderful tour of the omnichord. I'd love to hear you talk through a composition!
Thanks a lot! That is a topic dear to my heart, I will think of something!
1:32 gave serious vibes of the sampled Tristan chords in “Idioteque”
Hainbach serving up a most nourishing aesthetic.
Very Cool, thanks for sharing, can't wait for more!
Thank you!
Nice demo and good explanations.
+Shawn Carl thank you!
This video was really cool!
I own a couple of your (excellent) tapes, and the bent OM-84 is great. But the real star of this video is your hairdo at 0:34 .
Thank you! Note to self: get a haircut before the next video.
They have some interesting instruments...also like art pieces too.
Yeah, I think the border between the two. Have you heard the "Song Exploder" Podcast on Nine Inch Nails? Lots of Folktek Luminist Garden action.
HAINBACH - hey..no but I'll check it out. Thanks! I have the micro garden and it's very interesting also...I always wanted the luminist. I did a track some years ago with just the micro and I sang into it too. I almost poked my eye out..hehe. So I quickly put on sunglasses. 😎👾

Your prescription is insane
Great video!! Thanks for posting!
I love this instruments 😍
thanks for the video!
I almost feel bad for the Omnichord being mutilated in such a fashion. This was never intended for such a beautiful and elegant instrument.
Whenever I pull out the sausage to play chords I get funny looks 😂
Brilliant!
such cool sounds
Great One....Thanks.....
The Flight of the Conchords’ fav instrument.
I've wanted one for a decade now because of Jemaine and Bret and I've finally bought one. WOO!
3:41 Radiohead - Karma Police
using sausages as a sustain mechanism is such a wonderfully silly idea
I bet the omnichorch and that walrus audio janus are a fun combination
I will actually try the sausage thing and put it up on my instagram if it works :-). Yeah, in this video ruclips.net/video/r5cth05la3g/видео.html you can hear the Janus on the Omni, brings out the growl.
Sausage works, see my instagram stories :-)
wait, so are the touch plates made with a custom PCB that you wired to some body contact bends to make them prettier/easier to activate? they look great honestly
also for the pitch bend, did you have to add an LTC1799 or just a potentiometer?
KRRRAZY I LOVE IT.....with a good phaser ; AmaZZZZZING
6:33 some eq and bass boosting maybe a drum layer and you have a sick dark techno track on your hands!
thanks Hainbach! I wonder: all the "melodic" touch points seem to belong to the same (cool, a little sad) scale. so are they always in that particular scale or is there a way to change them. I heard it changed a little with the pitch-knob - but still seems more limited than a 12 tone scale which you can restrict to nearly infinite hepta, penta - etc. scales. the pitch knob seems to do what a OSC-Freq-knob usually does while the a quantized scale input remains the same. seemless transposing but the relationships between notes stay the same. (I omitted the nice anti-stability function of the pitch knob here.)
You have 84 different chords to choose from with the buttons in the middle, so the scales change accordingly. The OM84 is the most full feature Omnichord in that regard and a lovely tool for songwriting.
THANKS! maybe you also know how many notes are in one chord?
Aw that thing is so fucking sick.
I sold mine on muffs about 5 years ago. I didn't miss it until now, damn you and your fine taste in sausages
+Lemure333 ha, thank you! You did not sell it to Kent perchance?
Hainbach yes, to Kent! Great tracking skills ;)
+Lemure333 yeah, he saw my gig with it and was enamoured. So we talked when he was buying it from you.
Lemure333 i
Where can I get a modded one?! This is amazing! I need it! :)
Beautiful instrument. I'm always taken with really melancholic string sounds especially if they're warm and fuzzy. They sound very synthesised - I can pick out some kinds of triangle/squarish and saw waves. With the last row - Would you be able to show us some patches that replicate the sound of this well if you've managed to recreate this sound on a subtractive synth? I guess slow attack, slow decay, some detuned saw waves, chorus, reverb is the standard basic string? Have you found any good vsts for these kind of sounds around 3 minutes 10 seconds - 3 minutes 20. Does the original non modified omnichord make the sounds in that time period? Thanks
I am not really the guy to ask about vst emulations. I used vst extensively for over a decade but I am not up to date, since I have most of what I need in hardware.
@@Hainbach Any tips to recreate the sound on a hardware synth then? I'd like to see you do that if you could. It's a beautiful sound but very expensive to buy the machine for that.
@@Hainbach Your channel is really cool and interesting by the way. I want to get more into hardware as I don't find music production using a computer very experimental, inspiring or fun. It's certainly an expensive process though!
Well, it's a pretty simple sound with special features. Use a saw wave and mix with a triangle wave. use touch control like roli seaboard for slow attakk and release. Sync the Speed of modulating lfo to pitch, so with every key it's different. Apply midrange overdrive. Use any effect that might give you broken warmth.
@@Hainbach Thanks I'll give it a try. Do you think digital chip tune your Oscillator would do a good job or more analogue type oscillators. Do the touch plates on your folktek apply any modulation like lfo, pitch, velocity etc
Am I listening to a pitch knob rheostat which actually smoothly reclocks the entire machine in unison? If so, that is beyond beyond circuit-bending kudos. It seems you are subtracting triangles of harmonics out of sines and triangles - also insane genius. I work in that beat-wave continuum myself. Mind if I write it as an Artiphon app? Hmm I could almost do that and more with a midi script and and some simple vintage ipad synths emulating midi 3 manually.
Does anybody know, if you can still buy those somewhere?
maravilhoso
can this export in midi? i really like how easy chords are with this but i find the sound to be a little limiting (even though its really cute)
i believe theres midi out on both omnichords
I like that there are also graffiti cans involved.
Yeah, bought these for father-daughter projects such as unicorn swords.
A much nobler activity!
This video is very informative
Your giving me GAS again Hainbach!
ey noice exit this earths atmosphere pfp
After watching your live set video, I came up with a question: Have you ever used Omnichord on live shows? If so, how do you feel that it works in that context?
+Rhubarbs it works great! Pair it with a looper and you are set. Maybe tape down the power cable, the jack is not very tight.
you are great
I feel a Cumberland sausage would give a more rounded sound
Looking into getting a folktek om 84 any way how?
“Heavy farting sounds” 😂
fuck this is a beautiful instrument
This is a problem. So good.
Thank you!
love your gong amp , ever thought about making a omnichord vst ?
How would you record off this day onto a computer or iPad?
I'm assuming the solder is lead-free 😬
reminds me of dimlite !
Misel Quitno
I tried to contact Folktek about these and they never responded. Hmm
Can you turn it into a plugin please
Where I can buy and omichord
I wonder if Onuka has seen this?
You Rock
My grandfather had the omnichord I wish I had it now!! Where would one find the one your demonstrating?
At Folktek.com
HAINBACH thanks! I looked it up later in the day. I should have deleted the post. I appreciate the response! :-)
What what are those 🙃😮
Do I spy 2 excellent 500 series A Designs P1 Preamps? I have one of those love it!
Me too!
What a cool machine! Really I'm getting kind of sold on this thing... where to get one?
Second hand or via Folktek, they have a shop.
eBay is where you can find a lot of them
Hainbach recommends Hosa sausages?
I wonder how it would be using an omnichord with a pedal loop
great it is
Why does the first 4 points in order in the third row sound like a Lorn song?
Amazing 😅👍
what's the string-like sound at the start of the video?
The Omnichord :-)
Or do you mean the plucked acoustic guitar?
Yes, it sounds almost like a violin being struck by a mallet...
Is this modified omnivore, or is it series?
I saw montana gold in the background, whatcha painting?
Projects for my daughters, mosty (flashy wood swords and such).
Is it possible to mod the OM-300 or Q-Chord??
As far as I know, no. They are romplers.
Different I must admit with more features.
Where buy an original omnichord OM-84?
eBay USA. I have 5 now.
@@Hainbach If you ever need to get rid of one, I’ll gladly take it. Import fees and shipping costs are ridiculous to someone like me who can barely afford the instrument itself.
Hi hainbach
What the Hack?
Wow so awesome. I have a Q chord GC-1 and its not as cool
Yeah the old analog ones are where it’s at!
POW!
Sounds like Idioteque by Radiohead!
need to find a way to bent mine :(
2:07 these notes sound like minecraft music
I love how it Drones!!! I would like to make something Pan Sonic inspired with this. If I am able to get original Omnichord? who does mods for $$$?
+Deividas .Jaroška contact Folktek directly
Sausages!
wow sounds like old zelda games
+Gabriel Morales which are fantastic!
Exactly, in fact one of the most artisticly made videogames of all times. I've been checking your videos since yesterday and I love your work and experiments! Thank you very much for bringing this experience to us.
Greetings from Costa Rica
Shit.. I have a couple omnichords and Qchords and I forgot I need them modded
Pat Craft where did you get the omnichords?
@@kellanvaskel eBay and reverb
I can see jonny greenwood playing this
"heavy farting sounds"
+1 for sausages!
Use a looper? naaah sausages are my go too method.
"just put sausages on it"
Just lay some sausage on there
Sometimes you just need to put a sausage on your instrument
So it's an ear drum destroyer that I can take anywhere with me???
Shut up and take my money
heavy farting sounds please :D
I'm here because of your recent comment on Synthtopia
Welcome!
