Bands That Sound Like IRON MAIDEN

- Today we're going to check out five bands that sound like IRON MAIDEN. IRON MAIDEN are a legendary heavy metal band from the U.K.. Bassist Steve Harris has been a constant member ever since the band formed in the late 70's. Iron Maiden are known for hit songs like Run to the Hills, Fear of the Dark, 2 Minutes To Midnight, The Number of the Beast and Hallowed Be Thy Name. I'm going to share five bands with you that I think sounds like Iron Maiden. Bands with galopping guitars, dual guitar harmonies, clean vocals with some air-raid screams. Enjoy!
I excluded the solo work of Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris (British Lion), Blaze Bayley, Paul Di'Anno (All his projects), etc, etc and all other various Iron Maiden related side-projects from this video but those are of course also recommended.

Barren Cross was the first band I thought of when reading the title of this video. I've their CD "State Of Control" somewhere in storage.
I seen them in concert back in the late 80's. Awesome band live.

Aria sound like early Iron Maiden music with Scorpions vocals to me. But I like that combination. You got the selection right because it was like as if I was listening to Iron Maiden music that I hadn't heard before.
yeah, there's a bit of priest and scorpions in their sound too. classic stuff.

I got the Scorpions vibe, too. I think perhaps several Eastern European accents/languages sound similar to Western/English-speaking listeners.

Vocalist is good but the music sounds more like J.Priest. Not the galloping that Iron Maiden usually does.

Liege Lord was the only one of these I was familiar with. Way underrated, and Master Control is indeed a masterpiece. I stumbled across it on cassette back in the day and picked it up based solely on the badass band logo, awesome album cover and cool-sounding song titles. I wasn't disappointed when I got home and popped it in the stereo.

How could you not include Barren Cross? They've been around about 40 years. Their singer, Mike Lee has a powerful voice full of emotion and nearly identical to Bruce. Not all of their songs are power metal, but much of their stuff fits the bill.

Totally agree. Mike Lee's vocals on the debut Barren Cross release were showing early indications of multiple octave ranges in upcoming works. They were a unique sounding band of 4.
@@antonioa424 i was fortunate enough to see Barren Cross twice in the 80s. 1987 at the Cornerstone fest near Chicago. The other was in 1988 or 89 in Huntington, WV.

As a man from Russia, I really surprised to see Aria in this list, but I also glad, that it gets some worldwide recognition, because I love them, especially incredible lyrics by Margarita Pushkina (even tho you can't understand them, language barrier after all).
Iron Maiden it's my favorite band ever, and even tho their discography is enough to satisfy me and not to be searching for something similar, it's still a great list.

First time I ever heard Soldier Boy on metal massacre, I thought it sounded too much like maiden. Glad they changed up their style, as I love how technical they became.
Many even call the debut album FW "tribute to Iron Maiden", however, this is not surprising.
Night on brocken is totally Iron Maiden. But it's still a very good album.

Liege Lord sounds like power metal! And "Icon of Sin" is a brazilian band, whose vocalist (Raphael Mendes), is known by his voice timbre - alike Bruce Dickinson's! Amazing video!

Liege Lord had a different vocalist on their first 2 albums. Those are good too, but I'd say Master Control was their masterpiece when they got Joe Comeau on vocals and upped their songwriting even further.

I've lived a long time, and I've heard a lot of music. Especially a lot of hard rock and heavy metal. Because I am hearing not only the Iron Maiden similarities, but also some other definite comparisons as well.
Liege Lord, for example, struck me as sounding very much like a cross between Maiden and Exodus. I particularly noticed some Bonded by Blood sounds.
Aria, as a few other viewers here have noted, blend a definite Iron Maiden sound with a bit of a nod to the Scorpions, as well.
And the opening notes to the Icon of Sin track initially sounded very similar to the intro to Whitesnake's "Still of the Night '

I think it would be very useful to make a selection of groups similar to Motörhead. They have spawned a huge galaxy of bands around the world.
yeah, motorhead is a tough one, since a lot of the bands inspired by them played heavier stuff. plus motorhead is a bit all over the map.

Machine Men from Sweden and Destillery from Germany are two other bands that came to my mind. Nice to see Aria in the list, I own their whole discography and in the 90s and 2000s there are albums that sound even more like Maiden, hahaha.... Great video, thanx for that!

Machine men is really good. They actually had the same sound as bruce Dickinson's accident of birth. Pity they don't exist anymore.

Attick Demons were the only ones I hadn't heard before but I think they sounded the most like Maiden overall, especially the Brave New World into Dance of Death era

I know Icon of Sin's Raphael Mendes; I have watched his videos of him doing Bruce Dickinson impressions and the "what if Iron Maiden" videos. He sounds so much like Bruce.

Can't agree more. Wether musically or vocally you gave great examples. I would add Brazilian power metal bands Sacred Sin and Pastore - Mario Pastore is hell of a heavy metal and opera singer and renowed professor of singing/coach with variety of ranges but very powetful Bruce vibe. One of the best singers on my list. Also Serbian band Centurion - very Maiden-ish, singer sounds like Bruce even singing in Serbian language. Joe Commeau on Liege Lord's Master Control had completelly Bruce pipes which in combination with US Power Metal gave special flavour.

Some of very first albums by Mercyful Fate, Manowar and Omen were inspired by Iron Maiden as well.
Purple Sky by Lancer is a perfect example of Maiden earlier staff.

Interesting topic! Another band that I think sounds like Maiden is the american band Barren Cross from the 80’s. The songs ”Two thousand years” and ”Killers of the unborn” are two examples. The singer sounds a lot like Bruce, and the arrangements smells Maiden.
Yeah-Barren Cross was the first one that came to mind for me. I have played them for my two teenage sons and the both agreed that Mike sounds like Bruce.

I think a decent video idea in the future are bands that did the "heavy, soft interlude, heavy" structure before Master Of Puppets. There's more than you think. Powerslave (see it's on topic), Die Young, Victim Of Fate, How Many Tears, Male Supremacy, I'm sure you can think of a bunch more. Jim.

@@RuthlessMetalYT So you know how in Master Of Puppets, its thrash for a few minutes, then there's the quiet harmony part, then it gets heavy again? Well a lot of normies think that because its so famous, that's where that sort of thing started, whereas there are quite a few metal songs (and thrash songs) that did so before hand, some examples I listed above.
Know the 80s Belgium band OSTROGOTH? Not exactly Maiden clones but their debut "Ecstasy & Danger" displays a lot of DiAnno-era influence...

Attick Demons and Aria both sounded very Iron Maiden. Obviously Aria's vocalist doesn't sound massively like Bruce, but instrumentally it's very Maiden.
The other bands - at least the songs you played here - sound much more like Bruce's solo stuff, at least to me. They'd fit well on Accident of Birth or The Chemical Wedding

Fun fact: A couple of weeks before Iron Maiden released their album The Book of Souls, someone put Attick Demons "City of Golden Gates" on yt and said it was a new song from Maiden's upcoming album. There were so many Maiden fans who got tricked into thinking it was really an Iron Maiden song. 🤣
There’s a band called Midnight Idols that sounds like early Di’anno era Maiden. I’d also include the first Wolf album as very Maidenesque.
That makes an interesting change.

Not familiar with any of those, Icon of Sin & Attic Demons sound a lot like Maiden indeed. In the Death Metal universe I think Dismember would be my first choice, of course they play other style, but you can recognize some influence.

I knew immediately that Attick Demons would be here, because they sound exactly like Iron Maiden! And I still remember a couple of weeks before Iron Maiden released their album The Book of Souls, someone had tricked thousands of Maiden fans and put out the Attick Demons song you have here on yt and said it was an Iron Maiden song from their upcoming album. And a lot of people fell for it. 🤣

Have always considered Helloween to be Germany's answer to Maiden,especially around the late 80's era
Yeah. Thanks to Michael Kiske. And Helloween have even copied the guitar solo from Iron Maiden's "22 Acacia Avenue" to their own song "Keeper of the Seven Keys". It sounds exactly the same!

Master Control is such a great album. Voicewise really Bruce Dickinsony, but the whole album is great Power Metal, with surely Maiden influences, but in the right amount, like every good or great heavy/power metal band from the '80s on.

The Icon of Sin vocalist could fool a lot of people sight unseen. Probably the oddest soundalike I know of is Nick Holmes from Paradise Lost - doom and thrash have little in common but his clean vocals were Hetfield in a very dark place on those early albums.

Monument sounds like a mix of Maiden and modern Helloween (Andi Deris)
Attick Demons are the most Maiden sounding on this list, with a twist of Bruce’s solo material.

A band from Norway called Highland Glory sounds like maiden. Specifically their album Twist of Faith. And there is a german band called Destillery. I promise these without a doubt sound like Maiden.

I hadn't heard icon of Sin, Monument or Attick Demons but all three are more than influenced. Personally I'll stick with the original cos they're my fav band ever but interesting to see other takes on their sound but I prefer a bit of influence as opposed to a close copy.

Anthrax sound is kinda hard to pin down, they changed quite a bit over the years.
And another guy from Brazil called Raphael Mendes,check his videos is the same voice of Mr.Bruce.

Liege Lord is a veeery long shot IMO. I'd say Satan sounds somewhat similiar to IM, also UK's Dark Forest, especially since their 3rd album.

You can argue a lot about who the most famous or most influential heavy metal band of all time is, be it Sabbath, be it Priest, be it Maiden, be it Metallica. But make no mistake, Bruce Dickinson is the most imitated of all heavy metal vocalists.

I feel that early Fates Warning really sounds like Maiden and I mean the Night on Brocken album, 1984. Also some songs on Crimson Glory's debut LP sound like Iron Maiden, in my opinion of course.
