  • We filmed this a little while ago with the intention of doing some experimental animation, but actually it works quite well on it's own. It's slightly longer than our normal films but Pat, as usual is a fountain of knowledge on the area, so just sit back and enjoy the ride.
This video is also dedicated to Tony Rainford who sadly passed away last week. Tony was one of the people who inspired us to start the Liverpool Ships and Sailors site, based on the previous website he had created. He will be sadly missed.

I knew Pat Moran very well years ago, a real Scholar and a Gentleman. I am honored to have called him a friend.
It was I that christened him Pitchpine Pat, a long story for another time.

Love the tour. Served my apprenticeship on the line of docks. Worked at George dock pump house for Mersey Rail. Yes all the jiggers and capstans were Hydraulic. Then went to Sea with PSNC. The leaving of Liverpool. Thanks again for the memories.

What a fascinating video! Brought back lots of memories as a kid. My dad was a Captain for Elder Dempster Lines, and I would go down to the docks frequently with my mum, brother and sister when he sailed in or out. I loved getting guided tours of the ships, and seeing all the activity in the docks; and the highlight was eating with my dad and the officers. The cooks and stewards were all from West Africa and were so friendly. I could listen all day to Pat talking about the docks - I learned so much from watching this video, and look forward to watching the rest of the videos. Thanks so much.

Back in the 1970’s, I remember a neighbour (we lived in Bootle) a docker, fell in the dock after a few bevies but lived to tell the tale.
