My great grandfather James Edward Mitchell actually designed the elephant he worked at Trollope and Colls and designed it alongside his brother John Mitchell who worked next door at Williams Construction they designed it on greaseproof paper in there tea break it was an off the cuff thing to see what they could make with concrete pipes and my dads friends father did his apprenticeship at Trollope and Colls and remembers my great grandfather designing the elephant and helped with construction of it my grandmother saw designs her dad did but unfortunately they got destroyed in a flood in early 1970s.
How Barbara Jones fits into it is most likely she was hired by Trollope and Colls and helped my great grandfather design it but it came out of his head and the men that worked there sweating there nuts off making it not one lousy woman who gets all credit for it. The Americans wanted some of concrete pipes to make there version of concrete elephant but I’m not sure if that actually ever came off.
It’s utterly wrong my great grandfather died of lung cancer in 1963 and my great granduncle don’t get credit they deserve nor do the men who built it that’s human race for you this is false history being fed into peoples heads and the truth is what I am saying which needs to be told.
