Thank God The sportster is a expensive Piece of shit It’s a 5,000 bike they charge 12,000 for A nice bike but not a 12-13,000 bike at all and it’s never been in the 80s and now
With the Harley's being bottom of the barrel for performance, I'm not sure why you would buy one, besides the ego of the brand, there are multiple better options in every other category.
The Scout is the best engineered motorcycle I've owned in fifty years of riding. Not kidding. Great motor. If you want more comfort, grow a bigger ass.
1) Looks like the front tire on the Indian is backwards. 2) Just get a Bonneville T120 and call it a day. 3) Screw Harley, I'd buy an Indian if I ever got a cruiser. Indian isn't afraid to innovate and evolve.
@Julian Crooks So you think the Indians too expensive but say to go with the slightly more expensive bonneville? Scout bobber - $10,999 bonneville bobber - $11950 Scout - $11,499 bonneville t120 - $11,850 The t100 is cheaper, but smaller engine, so more inline with the scout 60, which is then a lot cheaper than the t100(almost 2k cheaper). If ya just like the bonneville that’s one thing, not a bad bike at all. But to say to go with it because Indians are expensive makes no sense when Indians cheaper. And at least the bobber is cheaper than standard on scouts not more
Lol. The Indian is a better bike but since I can sink more cash into the POS Harley makes to make it rideable, I'll take the Sportster because damn I love that T-shirt manufacturer so much.
You guys can trash the harleys all you like, but I still love my little orange piece of shit. It gets me where I'm going as fast as I need to get there, and that's good enough for me.
@@dudemcfurgusson7179 By that standard almost any bike could fit the bill. Ride what you like, you don't have to justify it. People are "trashing" Harley because up until recently, they don't innovate and their performance is not there for the price point. We'll see what the Sportster S can do, it looks like they're going to try and give the Scout a run for its money.
I rode a loaner 2019 sportster 1200 for 700 miles while I waited for my 2021 indian bobber to arrive. Absolutely no contest at all. Indian is so much better than HD in every aspect. Power, looks, build quality. The HD feels like it's going to fall apart. I'm in love with my Scout Bobber.
If you take the harley tax off the sportster, the indian costs a couple thousand more. I like the way the sportster looks better than the scout, theyre both great bikes imo and id love the scout just as much as my 883. I really like the finish on the 883 too, im not really riding a cruiser to go super fast. Theyre both nice bikes. Its also the only harley I actually like, I dont even care for the 1200 that much either. I do like the sportster S though. Too expensive unfortunately
I mean that's what Harley has admitted that their major issue has been not keeping their bikes relevant. Indian makes an excellent American cruiser that brings in modern engineering and reliability, with classic styling with modern touches.
A scout is my first bike too and i love it. He is right about it feeling like a loaded gun at times though. You can feel all that power just wanting to get out haha
Scout Bobber for my first as well. The key thing about using it as a beginner bike is how well do you know yourself. Below 5000 rpms, its well mannered and smooth...give in to the temptation and take it above and it feels like you kicked in to warp drive. No need to spend unnecessary money on power mods, but if you do want to, there is a 79 ci kit out there that will put you into whatever territory it is that HD refers to as Stage 4
@@stuckinpodunk do you happen to have a link for the kit? I havent found any power adders other than an air cleaner, exhaust and tune. Thank you in advance
I have the Bobber. My second mod (immediately after ordering the exhaust) was a Corbin seat. That oem seat is horrible! I took it into the mountains and I was amazed how well it did in the twisties with the tires!

I have a scout bobber with a Corbin seat and you'd be correct it makes one hell of a difference and especially on the Indian! I can ride all day long on it with zero issues
I have been riding my scout bobber for 3 years now and I am really happy with it. But I quickly replaced the seat to a aftermarket corbin seat which was much more comfortable.
Had mine since 2018. Just now bought Corbin seats, the Progressive 444 shocks and a halo led headlight. I get them in this week, I'm excited to make the bike more comfortable over distance
I must have missed the intro video for the new guy, I know he's been in a few though. Keep him on, pay him well, put him in the modding vids. Good energy.
Harley sportster still heavier than Scout eventhough Scout offers heavier liquid cooling. Liquid cooling more controlled heat, able to generate more horsepower with tighter motor clearances.
They weigh almost the same but Harleys are top heavy because of the engine being a push rod, they use a long bore instead of a square bore, it also explains the vibrations. They tried changing but most of their customers prefer the look of the push rod engine even though overhead cam engines are superior. Its been noted in a lot of reviews that HD's death will be because they cater to an older niche market.
To put it simply.... the piston has to travel further from tdc to bdc each revolution whereas a short bore has a shorter cylinder but generally wider to make up for the volume loss.... push rod engines (those tubes along side Harley's cylinders) cannot cope with higher revving engines which is beneficial for motorbikes, Indian bikes have that advantage, plus since its a shorter stroke more of the detonation happens throughout the length of down stroke of the piston thus obtaining higher power per volume.
There is something raw about a harley that gives it character that other bikes don't have. I have owned Harleys, Hondas, Kawasaki, etc and the Harley was just a unique experience. The smoothness from Japanese manufacturers such as Honda gives it almost a sterile feel
@@hellraiserrec19 I think that when you say there's something about a Harley that gives it character that other bikes just don't have, and then you say that the other bikes specifically the Indian is a much better bike, we're saying that the character is just in one's head. If you like the Mystique and the idea of riding a Harley, nothing wrong with that. But realize a better bike, a much better bike has been built and is slowly taking the the Mystique and more importantly cells of Harley away. @@keithsmith9889 at that point it isnt even comparable. A charged engine vs N/A of course the charged engine would win.... And also the price if the kit and just building up the bike in the first place. The scout with a stage 1 2to1 exhuast puts around low 90's which is conservative. Long story short the scout is a bike to do a stage 1 and to make pretty harley you just go balls to the wall upgrading to make it perform before visuals. Btw i own a 2019 lowrider s and a 2021 scout bobber
I test rode the Indian Scout today (6-9-21) and I absolutely loved it. It was peppy and zippy and so Fun to ride. I thought it was a great entry level, first-bike. I didn't feel the shocks or the engine presented any problem whatsoever. In fact, I was very impressed by its handling and engineering. It is a small bike, light and nimble and again, it sure was fun to ride. I only rode it 15 minutes but the Scout sure earned my respect. I'm not an advanced rider. Great bike for newbies. I've owned two Harley's (briefly), but since I have discovered Indian bikes, I'm certain I'll be buying one very soon. A Scout or a Springfield.
Been waiting on a cruiser video!!! Since I ride a BMW gr1200, harley davidson street bob, and Yamaha R1. All 2020. And there rarely is videos on cruisers in the channel...
Fulfilling? What the hell does that mean? I just can't get past a liquid cooled cruiser? The scout is a better bike and there is no way you can compare it in a meaningful way to the sportster. More at home in a corner? Yeah in the corner of the garage after you buy a scout. Just busting your chops.....great video.
"The Scout isn't built for a bigger guy like me and there isn't much you can do to it" and yet Indian AND the aftermarket make extended reach seats, controls and bars...enough that me, at 6'2" felt as comfortable on it as I do my bagger. It's not that the aftermarket doesn't make parts...you just didn't look in the first place.
I really wanted a new scout, but couldn't find a dealer around me that had one in stock without major dealer markup. So I bought a one year used sportster from ironically an Indian dealer for 5 grand less. As soon as my AMC tendies come through I'll gladly add a scout to the stable.
So spite with another “I’m a Harley guy and nothing else FEELS as good” from the always “honest” spite. Spite loves Harleys so much he bought a KTM. Sad Harley can’t even get their trolls to buy their motorcycles 🤦♂️. What a pity😔. By the way my 2019 Scout is by far the best cruiser I’ve ever owned🤘
I bet you could upgrade the front brakes on the Scout pretty easily. The HD has to have upgrades but the Scouts engine doesn’t need anything. It would seem you’d have more money going to upgrades with the HD. Sad HD can’t get there bikes to that level of performance stock so you could spend your money on making it look the way you want it to. Great video guys! ✌️
Wildcard: used Sportster and a Hammer conversion kit. I'm more of a sportsbike or naked kinda guy but I'd love an Indian Scout or a Victory Octane, unfortunately my wallet would love it much less. An old Sportster with a conversion kit bringing it up from 46hp to 79hp seems like a decent option to me.
Why compare would you compare an 883 to a 1200 when a sportster 1200 exists? Scout 60 vs 883 would be a lot more honest. The Indian would win either way but this is super misleading.
First two upgrades are the saddle and the rear shocks on the Scout. I keep hearing that, once that's done, no bike in its class really compares. I hope to be getting one this year. Adding some 444 shocks and a Corbin saddle.
I have been a sportster fan since I first came upon them back in the late 50s. My cousin had a 2000 black on black with black sportster XLCH thousand cc which was just pure terror. I bought my own sportster which was a 1999 in November 2005. It has been the closest things to the old sportsters that I could find. You need to compare the older sportsters when it comes to handling and such things to the scout rather than the new sportster which has been made bigger so it could accommodate the rubber mounts to cut the vibration down. Also on the newer sportsters you have to split the cases to service the transmission. The sportster is all about the ride. Sure there are plenty of bikes that handle better and are faster, but that’s not why us old school Harley folks like the sportster. I do feel that you guys do a pretty good job of testing , but you’re of the new school and and look for different things
I've ridden damn near everything. each bike has its own character. why in the hell anyone thinks their bike has to have 100 hp is beyond me. 250 gp bikes turn faster times than the bigger bikes do, and that's skill over horsepower and a bike with 100 horses is pretty much useless if you ride decent. Yes I've ridden some scary fast bikes, I'm done trying to impress my friends with my "i dont care i aint afraid to die" attitude. I bought a very freshly done 2004 883 sportster that been moded up a bit, its just damn fun to ride! A new saddleman seat and a smallish Memphis shades detachable sheild and its great. put 6 and and a half hours behind me last Tuesday, all highway and i cant wait to do it again! It's not my biggest bike, or the fastest bike I've had, but is just a blast to ride!
Great video! The Indian Scout Bobber is a great motorcycle for beginners and advanced riders. My 2019 Scout Bobber is great especially now that I’ve broken in the seat and have figured out how she likes to take the curvy roads.
My third bike is a Sportster and when I bought I was shocked how much better is it's cornering ability compared to my previous Suzuki Boulevard. The one thing that I don't like about it are the brakes, I had to re-learn breaking to think more ahead compared to the Suzuki. Other thing that they mentioned was vibration. Yes it is vibrating but it is a rubber mounted engine so 1. it is not tiring and 2. it smooths out when you switch in to the right gear. The Indian is a beauty, too bad that the design of the new Sportster S is nowhere near. With the EVO Sporty HD had the excuse that it is an old model but after Indian showed them how to make a really nicely designed classic-looking modern bike I feel the new Revolution Sportster S is a bit of a failure of catching up with them.
The scout runs circled around the harley both straight and in a corner. The drawbacks is suspension travel and a seat. Both of which that can be easily fixed.
I tested Harleys (Fat Bob & Sportster) Triump Bobber & T120, Yanahas, Ducati. Bought the Indian Scout. Hands down best of all of them. Power to weight, easy handling, smoothness. Just get the Scout.
I would pick the sportster, a used one can be had for $5k easily. Yes it is not as good as the scout, but I would like to work on the sportster more due to simple design, and availability of parts. I would get an 883, and turn it into a 1275, get it a comfortable seat and some z or mini apes handlebars
New purchase I wouldn’t get the Harley but you could buy a 10 year old sporty and mod it since it’s the same bike as today and throw mods into it. If you work on your bike harleys are nice. Im sure the Indian has lots of specialty items being so new.
Yam Master Pube Blaster! And no nickname ass having Spite! I just completed my MSF course and got the endorsement because I watched 10,000 of your videos and picked up how important it was. They told me only like 40% of riders even have them. You should do a vid on this subject. You can buy most motorcycles and even get insurance on some without an endorsement. Wild!
I ve scout bobber, and I won't trade it for no other bike. The seat you are right on the point. It is not the most comfortable, but that is an easy fix. Just change it as I did. As for the vibration on Harleys, well, you can't change that 😅.
What ever bike you learn on is your beginner bike. It bothers me when people 😒 say a certain bikes beginners shouldn't ride. It's like there trying to keep you limited to a tricycle. Teach a person correctly, they can ride anything.
As someone who has owned a sportster, dyna, bagger, and now softail standard. I can honestly suggest riding a new softail standard or street bob since they’re the same bike. Maybe the low rider or slim. They’re all very similar but the low rider and slim have 5 gallon tanks, low bars, and the slim has floorboards. The low rider is probably the smoothest ride of the group because of the wheels. I hated the new softails that used to be dyna’s. Had ridden a couple and just never found them better. Now that I’ve actually spent more time on mine and adjusted it to fit my liking and weight. Damn is it stable in corners. It flicks around like how I remember my old sportster doing. Maybe that’s because I spent the past two years on a bagger. But it’s just so much better than I gave it credit for. I also love that it doesn’t try to kill me at speeds over 70mph. That’s very much appreciated. But to anyone who doesn’t like Harley. I definitely suggest try any of those four. But actually try them. Not like a 20 minute test ride with a slow group. Get your hands on one for a couple days. Ride it through some twisties and see how it feels. Because if it comes down to wanting a little more power. There’s a big aftermarket. But there’s also bikes like the fat bob and low rider s that offer bigger displacement and more power before you add even more power.
Sure, and for $3k you can add a 2 into 1 exhaust, a fuel controller, and an aftermarket high flow air filter and have the Scout at about 120 crank hp, which makes it around 100hp at the wheels and smoke the dogshit out of any $16k Harley.
I'll take either, draw my name already.... I'd think both are great out here in West Texas on these big open roads, but I don't want to take a long trip on either. I like having a windshield and luggage. But having either one for an afternoon or weekend ride would be awesome.
I love Sportys - had a couple down the years and rate the 883 over the 1200 myself - it's more revable and you can wring the nuts off it. My buddy's Stage 2 2020 Fat Boy can't keep up with my standard Scout. We are closely matched as riders although I'm packing quite a few more lbs of personal ballast around the waist. What people miss is the difference in weight and the spread of torque across the rev range. The Fat Boy produces way more peak torque - but only at one fairly narrow point in the low end of the rev range - albeit with the same level of peak BHP. This means the Milwaukee 8 drops torque rapidly at medium to high speed - it just loses flexibility & punch compared to the Indian. The limitations of a pushrod, air-cooled mill, I guess. And the Fat Boy is hauling as much weight as a medium-weight pillion on the Scout - which levels things out when you look at torque:weight. In addition, the Fatboy loses a lot in the driveline - especially with the mass of that amazing fat rear wheel & tyre. And don't get me started on the difference in handling.... Fat Boy looks as cool as F, though... I was all set to trade the Scout in for a 114 Fat Bob last year, but riding my Scout home after the test ride it became apparent that the Scout is lighter, picks up faster and is more flexible at all points in the rev range; it runs rings around any 114-engined bike. Although the FatBob looks more aggressive than the Scout the H-D feels more cramped than the Scout as well. So I'm stuck with the Scout until a true competitor comes along. I'm really looking forward to the new liquid cooled H-D's - they could well tempt me. Unless a clean s/h Night Rod Special comes my way...
@@Edwardcolton Yeah - but the Diavel is not a cruiser or traditionally-styled bike is it? You might as well say 'The Yamaha R1 came along' Great bike: lighter than the Scout, more power, torque and next-level handling, but it appeals to a very different rider.
After always longing, desiring, lusting for a Road King, I road an Indian Springfield. It had Stage 2 cams and TAB exhaust with Arlen Ness high outflow, so maybe not a fair fight. There was no comparison. The Springfield is such a better handling bike. The mirrors on the Indian barely even vibrate it is such a smooth ride.
I agree they are pricing themselves out of the market for what you are getting. I’ve always loved Harley but at some point you are just buying a name and nostalgia. Unfortunately I don’t see the younger generation buying a Harley. RIP
Well done comparison. I would argue that the mods for the Scout make it fit the larger riders. They are do for a refresh. Perhaps they (Indian) will address the cornering issues. When a Sportster can out corner you, you have problems. Again, good job guys.
I did choose between the two of these bikes! I chose the Harley! I couldn’t help myself. I just couldn’t get with the Indian bikes 🤷🏻♂️. Probably some deep, dark, mental hang up somewhere but regardless….. I bought the black denim, iron 883 and I absolutely, freaking, love it. A year later and I’m still riding my iron 883 and finally put a stage 1 on it. So glad I went with this bike! So many options! And it just looks amazing!!
Ok, the Indian is faster. Why is anyone who is looking for a cruiser bothered about that? For an around town bike I'd rather have the iron. For a genuine cruiser (loads of highway miles at 70+) I'd have neither. Overall these are town/city bikes and as such I'd have the air cooled bike with easier maintenance, rebuild options and customisation. Nothing about the scout interests me, and I'm not a Harley owner btw.
I own a 2019 lowrider s and a 2021 scout bobber... And trust me for the money its getting worth it. It is keeping up with my stage 2 MIlwaukee 8 and it makes 103 to the wheels. And my bobber is just a 2to1 and filter with a custom tune and it makes 105 to the wheels.. I spent less than 1200 to make it as fast as the stage 2 lowrider s and all the parts was about 3100. Its a big bang for your buck love them bith but that scout is something else. Plus you can get a stoker for the scout too

I have a 2016 scout that I bought used. I love it for daily driving and short highway trips to the next city. I noticed that 3rd gear does shake a bit after 50mph but it might just be because its been abused a bit. Either way, I do like it better than my buddy's Harley 1200 sportster. as far as seats, I would recommend a Mustang seat. It's a bit thinner but thicker padding and puts you about 3/4 inch lower with a bit more butt area.
I have owned both. A Sportster and a 1200 Roadster. I now own a Scout. The only place Harley beats Indian is the sound with pipes. Nothing sounds better to ME that a Sportster or Roadster with pipes. Including my old 103. The Indian beats it in every other category even though it only has 1133cc’s. The 6 speed makes a huge difference. The acceleration is awesome. I can even ride two up without any issues. It compares nicely to my Fatboy in comfort and ability. It’s half the price. Looks better. And has a beautiful stock paint. HD gives you the finger and dares you to buy. Indian has a better bike for far less money.
I started out with my 883, i love it but the gearing and power for highway riding is not ideal for me. I was going to sell it to upgrade to the scout thinking it would handle better. But now I'm going to keep the sporty as a second bike for mountain roads. 😁
If your choice is between a Sportster and a Scout - you'll have a great bike with either! Personally, I'm getting back into riding and picked up a 2008 Sportster for $3k as there are no used Indians at that price (still too new). I'll ride it for 1-2 years and get something a bit larger and unsure what that'll be. If you are worried about speed, then a cruiser may not be the right type of bike for you!
There is a big difference in the sportster 883 and 1200. I’m not saying either one compares to the Indian as far as power. It would have been better to compare a 1200 to the Indian...Also the vibrations a Harley has is part of owning a Harley.I like that part of it. @@JosephRivera588 that's very true but I had it down in less then a week ya just need to be kinda gentle on the throttle at first
Scout Bobber for my first as well.

The Harley does not stand up to the Indian. Comparison to a Softail is more valid.
Yep, with the Indians specs & performance it matches up more closely to the Street Bob.
Harley sportster still heavier than Scout eventhough Scout offers heavier liquid cooling. Liquid cooling more controlled heat, able to generate more horsepower with tighter motor clearances.
They weight nearly the same plus or minus 20 pounds if that
It’s also from like 1986 so.... lol omg this bike that Was made in like 2016 makes more power than a bike designed in 1986 major achievement
@@Aussieguy72 what’s a long bore?
To put it simply.... the piston has to travel further from tdc to bdc each revolution whereas a short bore has a shorter cylinder but generally wider to make up for the volume loss.... push rod engines (those tubes along side Harley's cylinders) cannot cope with higher revving engines which is beneficial for motorbikes, Indian bikes have that advantage, plus since its a shorter stroke more of the detonation happens throughout the length of down stroke of the piston thus obtaining higher power per volume.
I find it funny, that almost everything is better on the scout but yet he selected the harley!
Well most people does choose harley over indian scout
There is something raw about a harley that gives it character that other bikes don't have. I have owned Harleys, Hondas, Kawasaki, etc and the Harley was just a unique experience. The smoothness from Japanese manufacturers such as Honda gives it almost a sterile feel
@@hellraiserrec19 I think that when you say there's something about a Harley that gives it character that other bikes just don't have, and then you say that the other bikes specifically the Indian is a much better bike, we're saying that the character is just in one's head. If you like the Mystique and the idea of riding a Harley, nothing wrong with that.
They should revisit this comparison but with the Sportster S as the HD bike....it's much more akin to the Scout than the traditional Sporty ever was😉
Been waiting on a cruiser video!!!
But which bike costs more
Wildcard: used Sportster and a Hammer conversion kit. I'm more of a sportsbike or naked kinda guy but I'd love an Indian Scout or a Victory Octane, unfortunately my wallet would love it much less. An old Sportster with a conversion kit bringing it up from 46hp to 79hp seems like a decent option to me.
Love my Scout! I went for the Scout because it had 100hp off the floor! have riddenThousands of miles and I still love the power and ride!
Keep trying Spite, eventually you may find a bike that the Sportster is better than, I suggest you try pre -1950 bikes,
The Scout bogs down some at the beginning b/c it doesnt redline until 8300 RPM so you get into the power band at ~4000 RPM
Why compare would you compare an 883 to a 1200 when a sportster 1200 exists? Scout 60 vs 883 would be a lot more honest. The Indian would win either way but this is super misleading.
I’m 6’5” and own an Indian Rogue. Totally comfortable, just push the apes forward, add highway bars with legs and you’re golden.

The Indian scout is my favorite bike aestheticly. It's bold, clean, and yet still holds the larger styling of larger bikes twice It's price.
“Just for the sake of argument why don’t we say we do a little suburban delinquent here” I am dead
The scout runs circled around the harley both straight and in a corner. The drawbacks is suspension travel and a seat. Both of which that can be easily fixed.

I ve scout bobber, and I won't trade it for no other bike. The seat you are right on the point. It is not the most comfortable, but that is an easy fix. Just change it as I did. As for the vibration on Harleys, well, you can't change that 😅.
My grandpa used to tell me that he would have to carry a wrench whenever he rode his old Harley. Some of the nuts and bolts would vibrate loose

The Diavel came along...;-)
@@Edwardcolton Yeah - but the Diavel is not a cruiser or traditionally-styled bike is it?

Well done comparison. I would argue that the mods for the Scout make it fit the larger riders. They are do for a refresh. Perhaps they (Indian) will address the cornering issues. When a Sportster can out corner you, you have problems. Again, good job guys.

The noise and the vibration makes me feel more attached to the bike.

Walking is more fun then riding a HD.
Hope u hit the 1 mil milestone papa yam and uncle spite and the crew

This was seriously invaluable. I haven't ridden a motorcycle in nearly twenty-five years and my younger brother recently bought a Sportster 883 out of the blue. Looking at it gave me the bug to get one and I've landed on the Indian Scout. This review really helped me address some potential issues with the Indian that are worth knowing about. I'm 5'8 on a good day so maybe issues like the lack of "ass-shelf" (great term) won't be as much of an issue for me but this really helped me avoid some pitfalls that would have surprised me when I get to testing them out.
Thank you.
8:22 spite finally won a race!
Until recently both American companies did not offer standard ABS. That was the only tech. With Euro 4 ABS must be offered. Euro 5 requires TC. Emissions making throttle by wire a necessity but made cruise control, traction control, and different modes Easy.
That scout motor comes right off of 2017 victory octane. That motor was going to be th shift of victory from a cruiser orientated bike to Polaris sport bike and Indian its cruiser line. That engine was also developed from Polaris pikes peak attempts... check out the results from those races
even comparison would be a bone stock 883 with a bone stock scout 60 or put the same new rear shocks on the scout that you put on the 883.
I have friends with big HD baggers….114 and 117’s Milwaukee. And my Scout Bobber can take on a 114 and stay side by side with a 117 HD….lots of torque but they die at 5k rpms….while the bobber has less torque but keeps producing hp all the way to 8k rpms….my friends could not believe the power…..
