I hate IKF the starting shortstop. I like IKF the utility player. The problem with IKF was he wasn’t good as a shortstop so that’s why we soured on him. I like him now because he’s a good teammate who didn’t complain about losing his job. And I respect the hell out of him for this.

As a Rangers fan I still love Isiah Kiner-Falefa. He was a player who had to crawl tooth and nail to get to the Majors, and I have rarely seen player more personable with fans than he had. Unfortunately he never seemed to have the defensive wizardry at short that he displayed at third with the Rangers in the shortened 2020 season. I will still continue to root for his success.
There is a big difference between playing third base and playing short stop. The Yankees probably messed IKF up by making him play a position for which he was not suited. Hopefully, he will find a home with the Yankees.
IKF said he always dreamed of wearing pinstripes. His willingness to play wherever will benefit the team most, is awesome. He Hustles and usually makes contact with the ball. His attitude of gratitude much like Cabrera is what you want in a player. He also played a great centerfield this week against Anaheim. Gallo bailed out early, so IKF stuck around for the abuse in 2022. I don't think Hicks really played enough to call it a full season for him. But IKF filled SS full-time, which is more than you can say about many who tried in 2022 and failed. If he walked more, he could really be a very valuable guy at both utility and hitting.
He will never produce for the Yankees. He was one of the few bright spots for us rangers fans during the time he was with us. His play at SS was insane, I had never watched someone consistently own the position like he did. The truth is, he’s a sensitive dude. He made it clear that he felt he deserved to be an AS in 21. He felt shafted by rangers fans when we didn’t vote him in. He did deserve it, he was absolutely an AS that year but he was still largely unknown and rangers fans are mostly casuals. Yankees fans gonna yank and shit on him consistently. I knew this would happen before he started a game there. I have no doubt this is effecting him the same way it did Gallo. If he can make it outta dodge he will do great things. I’m sure he’s learned a lot in NY but he really deserves to get traded and show out for the next team he plays for.
IKF needs one start at first base and he will become one of extremely few people to have played in every single position in MLB. Dude has 73 games as catcher and 6 innings as pitcher. Kinda legendary utility.
die hard yankees fan here and an IKF enjoyer, i personally think he's slept on, and have been saying so for a while, I think shortstop just isnt a good fit for him, and with some adjustments he can seriously unlock his potential, which I see a lot of. Dont give up on him, the man is grinding his ass off.
Everyone says he's a lousy hitter, but he isn't; he's lousy at getting on base. His OBP is not good at all, but his average is totally decent in the .250-70 range. Unfortunately for the Yankees, that means his average was better than most on the team last year. He's a baller in CF.
IKF is valuable as a bench player who can play all 8 defensive positions in a pinch. That is insanely valuable. He needs to hit better, and he's DEFINITELY not a starting shortstop, but I don't have a problem with the team keeping him around. The reason fans dislike him is that the team acted like he was the second coming of Jesus defensively at shortstop last year, which was clearly not true. If the team never treated him like that, and didn't delay the debut of Oswald Peraza in order to force IKF into the lineup every day, I doubt fans would dislike him. He's a good guy, with a great attitude and who does whatever the team asks. His failures last season were the team's fault, not his. He even went to the team asking for help with his defense, and the team said "nah, you're good."

Great video man. I’m always rooting for IKF, u got to admire the work he puts in. Can’t remember the game, but last season there was a game he batted in or scored himself every run on the board. Then on the field made more than one run saving defensive plays. The dude won the whole game himself. It was unreal. I know it’s just one game. But it’s always been proof to me he’s capable of some great stuff. I will admit his performance in the playoffs was terrible. But he just played a great game against the angles with some defense highlights. While it’s absolutely not at shortstop. I fully believe there’s a spot on the Yankees where IKF adds a lot of value.

I believe a lot of the hate he experienced last year was not his fault but the fault of yankees management who told us fans things that we could see were not true. He is not a great shortstop and we had highly rated prospects that we have been told about for years who are now playing on the team. we thought they were ready to come up and the yankees didn't. in the mind of many fans a guy who wasn't a great shortstop but we kept on being told is was blocking those players we wanted up. anybody who is still hating should stop the guy is doing whatever the team needs from him covering for injuries, playing centerfield to keep judge fresh, to pitching junk time. I never hated IKF, just hated how they kept playing him well after he proved he should not be a starting SS. Although I wanna say, he’s not *really* gonna be a super utility guy. At least not one that’s actually gonna be utilized. DJ plays 3 positions, Oswald Peraza has been called up and he’s playing 3rd and 2nd (despite being a natural SS). IKF is basically at the bottom of the pecking order now.
Yankee fans with boo their own mothers easily among the most classless of all time. The team is built around the solo home run horrible defense in almost no Team Speed. That is changed with Volpe Peraza and Cabrera and ikf is solid.
IKF is a great bench player for any team. The fans shouldn't be so hard on him he wasn't even the worst player we got from that trade. Donaldson and Ben have been way worse in my opinion. Plus cashman traded away Gio who was actually okay as starter. And Boone can't make a good line up to save his life. So yankee fans should have a lot of other problems with the team besides IKF

It wasn't a new position. He played full-time SS for TEX in 2021. And let's face it, as SS, Jeter stunk for the last 5 years he played the position.

At least not one that’s actually gonna be utilized. DJ plays 3 positions, Oswald Peraza has been called up and he’s playing 3rd and 2nd (despite being a natural SS). IKF is basically at the bottom of the pecking order now.
DJ gets injured a lot. Peraza hasn't really proven himself on offense at the MLB level yet. Etc.

Yankee fans with boo their own mothers easily among the most classless of all time. The team is built around the solo home run horrible defense in almost no Team Speed. That is changed with Volpe Peraza and Cabrera and ikf is solid.
IKF is a great bench player for any team. The fans shouldn't be so hard on him he wasn't even the worst player we got from that trade. Donaldson and Ben have been way worse in my opinion. Plus cashman traded away Gio who was actually okay as starter. And Boone can't make a good line up to save his life. So yankee fans should have a lot of other problems with the team besides IKF

The negative Yankee fans are much louder than the positive ones unfortunately. A lot of us fans really do like him, outside of the shortstop position of course.

As someone from Hawaii and as a Yankees fan, I am gonna keep holding out hope that him being on the team works out somehow. Also at this point in time, I would take IKF over Hicks and Donaldson ten times out of ten.

As a baseball fan (NOT A YANKYEES FAN) and just some guy in Korea who loves baseball, just because he has a great mentalitiy doesn't mean he get's to play starting role in MLB team. I think it should be evaluated by his ACTUAL stats and well if he isn't good enough he should go some where else like AAA or AA

No Yankee fan worth a shit hates IKF personally, we hated his being planted at shortstop with better options available and we hated the team’s absolute, Soviet public conviction that he was in fact one of the best defensive shortstops in the league. *and* we hated the trade for him because it brought Donaldson and his contract on the payroll. 🤷♂️

The question NYY management had was whether or not the top IFing prospects were really ready to displace IKF or others at SS, 3B, etc. Right now though those guys are fading at the plate. Small sample. I hope all of them make it. If IKF has no role on NYY, he'll find one somewhere else. I'm sure of that.
