I am an alumna of JSU❤ And, yes, it got hit hard by a tornado in 2018. There was a lot of damage to the surrounding neighborhoods and the campus. It is so beautiful up in those mountains. Loved my time at Jacksonville.

Born and raised in Jacksonville. A lot of memories, good and bad.
So much beauty and rich in history.
Most of the college students do not work. I went to both Jacksonville High and JSU.
Tornado damage to parts of the college are irreparable.
The college food court and cafeteria are open to the public, as well as the track.
JSU brings so much traffic and population to Jacksonville.
    Go gamecocks 🐓
    Blow southerners 🎺

My mom was born on the mountain above whites gap in 1943. Love the mountains of north eastern Alabama. Jacksonville dates to before the civil war! So far Jacksonville hasn't allowed criminals to take over!

It’s too bad they couldn’t have seen the town and surrounding before the tornado destroyed the north end. Good review of the city though.

@ 25:50 That new building replace another that got a direct hit from an F3 tornado in 2018. There used to be houses across the street from it but they got demolished by the storms. 3 tornadoes hit Jacksonville that evening.

Im an alumni of JSU. I graduated quite a while back and would like to tour the campus again. I guess some of the comments made may be true but each individual is entitled to their own opinion. If you could stay in the city for a short time though and meet people around campus, you'll find out the saying its' the "friendliest campus in the south" has some truth to it.

This is a very old town with an interesting history. Do your research.

That left hand corner used to be a Pasquale’s Pizza. It had great food. Lots of sorority functions were held in the upstairs room.

You are spot on. There were 2 kinds in Jacksonville. The haves and have nots and the haves were awful. I grew up there and left when I was old enough to get out. Its a beautiful place. Half the people aren't. I haven't been back in probably 10 years and really don't care to. Everybody i went to high school with pretty much left.

When looking at the income there, the number of college students who live there and work retail and or hospitality jobs, must be taken into account. JSU is there, and many of the students from here in GA...live there FT.

@26:30 This is NOT NOT NOT a place to move to as an outsider unless you're a JSU student!!! If you're not from the Calhoun County area, do NOT move here unless you're going to Oxford. Oxford has a higher population & they're accustom to outsiders & treat them well. Oxford is also off I-20 which is quick access to diverse social options (i.e Atlanta or Birmingham) smaller towns don't typically offer.
They'll smile & be nice to your face but socialization seldom goes beyond the handshake. Otherwise, it's typical 2-faced small town Southernese nonsense.

Many of the churches there are too clanny! They're hickish attitudes are very stuck up...they're probably not used to outsiders who aren't JSU students.

"While the town is nice, the homes as well" ?? are you saying the homes -- were nice-- as well? the sentence did not make sense. also: city stats:As of the 2020 United States census, there were 14,385 people, 4,518 households, and 2,472 families residing in the city.
