I’m sure we were all wondering where this is.
I know I was.that’s not one of the bases/posts that I’ve ever been on.
Its a real shame that it sits there decaying and rotting. In its present condition it becomes more off a hazard and liability. I wonder if this base was shuttered as part of the Base Realignment mission that was undertaken in the late 80’s~ early 90’s. Recall those were accomplished on a rolling fiscal year. So many per each FY. Back then there was a WHOLE lotta lobbying going on. Senators and Congressmen did SO much that was legal then, but got so abused, that the prohibitions and limits on what is legal in lobbying became severely cut back. Politicians honing their expertise skirting laws, and just plain, out open crimes in
Indicating anything to get their way.Influencing the BRAC committee members.

I saw something in one of the buildings that makes me certain that you were at the former George AFB, located in Victorville, California. I was stationed at George AFB in 1981 - 1982, what a shit-hole that base and Victorville, CA. were back then. I volunteered to go to Korea for 1 year to get away from that place.

I was stationed at George AFB from 1986 to 1990. I lived in the family housing area for about two years and the housing area used to be beautiful with grass, trees, and I even had two big rose bushes on either side of my front door. The newer dorms were only about 6-7 years old when the base closed in 1992...they were built around 1986-87. The NASA like control room was the Operations Center office for the 562nd Tactical Training Squadron that flew F-4s. The black boards were where you'd put the flight "sortie" information...flight callsign, aircraft tail number, pilot and backseater names, type of mission, mission weapons load out, etc. The one for the Range was a schedule with the same info for the scheduled time for a jet to be at the gunnery or bombing range. So sad to see the base in the condition it's in. It used to be a very nice place to live and work.

My father was also stationed here from 1970-1974. It was a very nice place to live and be a kid. We also lived in the family housing area, 217 Washington Street. One of the best bases we ever lived. We use to walk to the movies every Saturday afternoon. We were there when it snowed, we had lived in Colorado before this, so we didn't think it was much snow. However, the sand storms were definitely something to seek shelter from and if you got hit with a tumble weed, you knew it. I didn't even know the base was closed or contaminated. It is so sad to see the condition it is in now, and the vandalism so disappointing.

It's much the same in the UK. We have homeless people/families and unused military areas.
They do get sold eventually. Land to build new homes is urgently required so the unused bases are ideal.
Trouble is, they build high end properties instead of basic affordable accommodation. Follow the money...

Yes, big one near me. Used
to be very active, there was a lake to boat and fish and swim and picnic, low income housing after the base became inactive, which was much needed, then they kicked all residence out so it can sit empty, not even even bringing in rental income from the housing unit

Much of the housing was sold cheap and lots of the larger facilities are now occupied by factories and new businesses. The air strips and hangers are even being used by Kalita Air which rebuilds jet engines commercially. Ours closed in the 90's. What a terrible waste!

The boards are neat though and they were in the Command Post which is an office that not many people get to see, even people in the military don't get to see inside of them often. I worked in the Command Post on my base and you had to have very specific clearance to get in it and then you still have to be buzzed in through 2 doors or know the codes to the door which change either every 2 weeks or monthly depending on the base.

Your mind control device is like several others said for air filtration. The white things inside are bags that collect the dirt from the air. Go to a sawmill they will have the same thing to collect the fine wood out of the air and the big chips collect below. Sell the chips which in turn get made into other products. It would be similar to a vacuum cleaner.

Actually it was shut down due to massive contamination that lead to a lot of women who were there wind up having cancer or so many miscarriages they wound up not being able to have children. The contamination stems from the chemicals getting into the ground water from cleaning the planes as well as radiation from the nose cones

I lived at George AFB from 1989 to 1991 when I married a man who was stationed there. He worked in the Communications Squadron. We lived in one of the three-bedroom duplexes, which had high sloping ceilings and were very nice. It was very beautiful at the time, with green grass and large trees and flowering plants. We had to make sure we watered a LOT since it is located in the Mojave desert, which is very dry.
My son attended that school. It was a very nice elementary school and even in first grade, I felt safe letting him walk since we lived on base. There were parks all over the place, and little playgrounds. Such a beautiful place - a sanctuary in the desert. I spent a lot of time at the hospital, too, when I joined a Red Cross training program for military dependents so we could learn to be Dental Assistants. That hospital was amazing - beautiful - state of the art.
George AFB was the only base I ever lived on. It really was like a small town. We had a BX (like a Walmart) and a Commissary (grocery store), a bowling alley, a liquor store, gas stations, and a Burger King. And a daycare center called Children's World where I worked for a while. I really loved it there.
I was also part of a group that wrote up a plan to get the city of Victorville to take George over and turn it into a homeless/welfare community. We felt that the hospital and housing and other building should not go to waste. But for various reasons, it was not to be. Even though it officially closed in 1992, the Air Force was supposedly still using a lot of the base for a while after that. Also, the soil was shown to be pretty toxic - although you never would have known it at the time that I lived there. Still...I think it is very sad that they never did anything with it. The housing was really nice. And I didn't even see some of the prettiest houses in this video. I wonder if they still exist.
Thank you for this exploration. :)

1995 We had government furlough's many military bases were either shut down or left with a skeleton crew of air force. Many were shipped to other bases. Their jobs were replaced with private contractors, I worked at Edwards Air Forces base at the time. In civil engineering. This I'm guessing is in Adlanto .

Thank you for sharing this! My first video of yours happens to be a place that I lived with my family when my father was in the Air Force (George Air Force Base, Victorville, CA) from 1970 to 1974. It was a really great place to be a kid and we spent most of our time outside. In the morning before we could open the front door, we had to check outside by looking out of the mailbox slot in the door for rattle snakes and sidewinder snakes because they liked to curl up on our front porch. They were disturbed by the Air Force building new living quarters behind us. I spent a lot of time rollar skating (with the key skates) on many of the side walks on this base or riding my banana seat bike. So sad to see what has become of the base. I am so grateful to you all for sharing this and allowing me to walk down memory lane. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! (from St. Louis, MO).

the homes were for married airmen with family, the 3 floor barracks were for unmarried airmen male and female. The big class rooms were for many different types of training the Air Force is big on education for the airmen and officers. The big room with the glass boards looks like maintenance scheduling, the glass board is so they can see where all the airplanes are located , on a mission, in for fuel repair, in for phased inspection, ready to fly, or location at another Air Force base in our country or overseas. that room is called "MOC" it is a secure room with limited aces and radios to the tower and security command transportation ect ect. "MOC" means maintenance operations control. the big building at the 18 min looks like a combo building "CBPO" consolidated base personnel office, probably the large offices are for squadron commanders or other officers , at 20 min that is probably just fire hose storage, At 11 min i would say that was a office for the NCOIC or Sgt in charge of the barracks for processing airmen in and out , The furniture in the barracks what i was told was all made in federal prisons by inmate work shops, it is great furniture very strong and lasts for years. great video guys i enjoyed it. thanks from Bob in Seattle

Interesting explore! I was in the Air Force and I can tell you about those boards in that room (the one with several boards) it is the Command Post. I was a Command & Control Apprentice and you are some what right about the base general would be in that building (only occasionally in that specific room). So the purpose of that room is to monitor base assets both when they are on the base and for planes when they are flying to other bases. This room acts as a central command place to ensure people and equipment are where they need to be at any given time. The general is typically only in the room or an adjacent room only during exercises or real world emergencies. The people like myself that worked in that room would collect information and relay commands from the general to pilots, air traffic control, control tower, emergency crew, and other offices on base. We would also communicate with higher headquarters which would also include reports to the Pentagon, lots of classified information would have been handled in that room, sometimes simply classified all the way to Top Secret (or higher!) There are specific things that are marked Top Secret and then you also have extra clearances on top of that for extremely sensitive info. The info on the board is specific to that particular base and its mission. The type of aircraft would affect what info you keep track of on that board. The first category is almost always call sign, then usually you would have est. time of departure, actual time of departure, est. arrival at destination, actual arrival at destination, est. time of departure from destination, actual time of departure from destination, est. time of arrival back to base, and actual time of arrival back to base. Some bases would also keep track of weapons on board depending again on the type of aircraft for that base. You would also have another board for the guys that work in the Maintenance Command Post, which is usually in the same room, that would keep track of aircraft tail number and its maintenance condition. There are also some boards for base level emergencies everything from fires on base, to emergencies, to bomb threats, and everything you could possibly think of that could possibly happen. We had 2 full binders (4 in binders) with quick reaction checklists for every possible emergency and were about half full on the 3rd binder. We even had a checklist for when there was an emergency that didn't have a checklist. By the time I was in we had white boards that could have a projector that would display the info (this was in the mid-90s and high tech for that time period). I hope this answers a few of your questions. As far as that machine that looks like a person could sit in it or whatever (the one you said could be a washing machine) I would guess that maybe a crude version of a g-force machine so that pilots could train handling the g-forces that certain aircraft can experience. Also people in the Air Force are not soldiers, they are airman or airmen, the Navy are sailors or seamen, the Army is soldiers, and the Marines are just Marines (got to keep it simple for them! Just kidding Marines!)

    • @tiffanymims8691
      @tiffanymims8691 5 лет назад

I was finally able to stop the video and see the one board a little better. Call Sign = Is the designation given to a specific flight of an aircraft (it is usually a set of letters and numbers, at my base a really common one would be JFOR and then 3 numbers, the letters JFOR was a mission in which we were transporting cargo to another base), SQDN = Squadron Number which is a group of aircraft at a location it is usually 2 or 3 numbers, typically 2 numbers in my experience but I did come across some that were 3 numbers, AC NO = Aircraft number which is often called tail number and is specific to that particular airplane and they never change (at least they are not supposed to change, it is like a VIN for an aircraft), ETD & ATD are departure times (estimated and actual), ETA & ATA are arrival times (again estimated and actual), it looks like there are several for each call sign space which means that the aircraft was going to have more than one base it was going to or in other words several destinations. On one of the previous boards there was a layout of the runways, taxiways, and ramps (places where aircraft are parked outside) it was the one with the shape like an X that was squashed out with lines coming off of it. The two legs of the X are the different runways which would have had a 2 number designation for each end of the legs. The numbers are basically like the degrees of a circle with the last number dropped (so think 0-360 degrees but then drop the last number, so a runway that is facing due north would be runway 00, facing east it would be 09, south would be 18, and west would be 27) but runways don't usually face a north, east, south, or west it is usually a mixture of direction like NW, NE, SW, or SE so the number can be anywhere from 00-35 for runways and they will often have a R or L for which side of the runway so for example you can have Runway 22R or 22L which is often side-by-side runways to allow more takeoffs and landings. Then there is usually another set of runways facing a different orientation so that they can use them when the winds are coming out of a different direction. (The wind plays a huge role in the runway being used) the runways are usually crossed making an X or a very squashed X just depends on the area and the winds in that area.

I didn't notice any wildlife. No scorpions, snakes, bugs. The grass is green, but everything else is like gone. I had this weird thought when you were panning around the area, that, wouldn't it be just the place that the military, saying this area was contaminated, left it like this so it's forgotten about. But in reality, they built a whole complex underground, with bomb silo's and the barracks all underground. And they have an entrance kind of off base somewhere that no one really notices. Just a thought! My brother was in the Air Force for over 20 years. Traveled to where ever our country sent him. He's a hero in my eyes. My husband was in the Air Force for his one stint. Served it in Viet Nam. My cousins, my uncles, all in the military over the years. And you are right. You are standing where hero's stood. You are looking at the day to day lives of hero's doing their jobs. Lot's of history on that base.

Dope location 😊 Couldn't agree more with you Robb, it's a shame they don't revitalize for others to use. I suppose the dangers of chemical is a deterrent. Crazy explore nonetheless! 😊🍅

It's beyond belief that a massive Air Force town just left abandoned! Why couldn't they just sell it & reuse as a new suburb/town site? Must be a reason for not using these buildings....same like other abandoned sites, graffiti, vandalism.... Anyway, great video guys! Take care!....

It costs heaps like a fuck ton to decontaminate land especially land of that size. And due to the fact that it is contaminated is why they didn't sell it or reuse the land as it's the land that's contaminated. Duhh

Some of the tagging was reasonably recent, lots of anti - trump sentiment. Interestingly the cleanest areas were the sidewalks.

What adapt do you use on your tripod that connects the light to it?

That is a filter system, those long sock things catch dust and debri. The square opening is a peep window to see when needs changed or cleaned. It should have glass or acrylic cover.

Really dig the post apocalyptic feeling, reminds me of Fallout, particularly Fallout 4, or Dying Light. This place would be scary as hell at night, or crazy cool.
