Well except if Return of the Joker is anything to go by the Joker has a big ego he wants to be the star of the show he never likes it when he’s the punchline
How The Joker managed to escape a lot of his near death experiences in the DCAU are pretty easy to explain. The Laughing Fish? He swam away from the shark. Mask of the Phantasm? Andrea let him go. Mad Love? Ugh...I guess he landed on a bunch of mattresses when he fell down the smoke stack. Wild Cards? He eventually came out of his coma. Return of the Joker? He implanted a nano tech chip on Tim Drake. This one? Nearly 20 years later, I'm still trying to figure out how he survived this.
He was probably sucked out or thrown out of a hole in the air frame by the wind, by the crash, or (if he was just that lucky) managed to swim for it. Just some educated guesses on my part.
The laugh alone is one of the best if not THE best. It pretty much the full spectrum of Mark Hamil's Joker laughs starting low, upping to mid, and ending with that classic high pitched laugh.
Joker here is *not* laughing at death because he's knows he won't die. *Actually,* he is laughing at the audience for keeping on buying his merch thus the WB/DC executives can make sure he can come back very soon. "Time next time, suckers. MAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!"
We're supposedly meant to believe that he somehow found a way to survive this, because he appears multiple times after this in the DCAU timeline. He's also seemingly died multiple times throughout the DCAU and returned. This one was just the one that looked the most definitive, well, that and the death in Return of the Joker. Here's a theory, but perhaps a Joker actually did die all of those times, and his consciousness gets implanted into unsuspecting people via nanobots, ending with Joker taking over their minds and bodies like he literally did to Tim Drake in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. So that means, again, hypothetically, perhaps he really did die here, the Joker we see in the future is just some random shmuck who has Joker's consciousness taking his meat suit for a joy ride. Perhaps the nanobots were activated upon the deaths of the previous Jokers, and it only took so long to take over Tim because of his mental training and toughness which only weakened to normal levels with age. That would mean that when Terry short-circuited the nanobots in Tim Drake, he finally ended Joker's perpetual cycle of death and rebirth.
0:10-0:18 send chills down my spine everytime. I watched this so many times on VHS as The Batman/Superman Movie when i was a kid back in the late 90s/early 2000s so there's stuff in these three episodes that's burned into my memory forever.
To the joker, death is the ultimate joke. "I'll be knocking at death's door now. Ahahahahahahaha! Oh who am I kidding, the clown prince of crime's reign will never end!"

Now that's what I call going out with a Bang That laugh, the one in Justice League (Injustice for all), and the transformation of Tim Drake to Joker in the Movie: Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker. Are my top 3 Mark Hamill/Joker laughs of all time.
When he hit Batman from behind with a bag with a rock in it? That was a great laugh. The way he seems to be laughing so hard that he's getting light headed.
This scene used to scare me as a kid and how he just laughs off at death like the madman he is. I hate this redesign but he looked pretty good in the last shot. I was also too dumb enough to believe this was the final appearance of Joker in the DCAU, not knowing anything about Batman Beyond.
As far as I know, there's no way he could have survived that. But then, the Joker has died at least a thousand deaths. And each time, he miraculously managed to show up again. And that's only one of the many wonders of fictional characters. They can never truly die.
The amount of times he's died in dcau then come back. Man. Most people when they return from a supposed death there is a whole explanation and it's a big deal. A whole story arc even. Not the joker though. He just shows up again and no one is surprised. The one time his death is not obscured is in Joker Returns since he is shot and dies on screen. But still he found a way to come back.
Do you know why he's laughing here? Because he's about to be killed from losing his marbles. It works on so many levels! Marble bombs, insanity, it being his own weapon, all while going down in a giant smile in the sky! At that point, how can you not laugh?
I like to see it that way: Joker knows his life isn't a real life, that his death is never a real death. His madness reach a point of extra-awareness that makes him aware he's a fictional character and that the writers will eventually bring him back in some other media. That's why he usually laughs when he dies. Batman's attemps to save the city makes him laugh because he knows it's futile and meaningless: the writers will always put it in danger again. This fictional world is his playground. At least, that's one of the interpretation I have for the character.
