hey Nl, in the 2-1 jungle and 3-1 ice caves, you can throw the damsel into the worm tounge and it counts as a exit for them, allowing you to not have to carry them to the real exit, and you'll still get the hp from them. same thing with the ice caves with the head on it, you can send the damsel into the normal exit then die, go through the door in the head you'll get the health.
The whip has an odd hitbox, don't think of it as if it were a real whip going through the air, you have to hit the bubble with the actual sprite. He was hitting lower, the whip never touched the bubbles. That trick works, it's not very useful but it does work.
Ryan, seriously, in the jungle you had 5 health already, you should have totally sacrificed Monty... your motivation not to do it was because you had to use a bomb (and you had 12 of those)...and 30 seconds later you waste a bomb to blow up a tiki trap... ALWAYS try to sacrifice 2 monty's as soon as possible, the Kapala you get is priceless at later levels!

i think the machete is great! its better than the shotgun for me, because when you use it, it makes an almost 180 degree damage shield from the ground in front of you to the ground behind you for about a second and you can swing it once a second, almost total invincibility from enemies, it was the sole reason i almost made it from the mines to the temple for the first time, was my first time in the ice caves too, but that as the PC version ^_^;...
northernlion did you even watch the michaelalfox run where he beats hell ? if you did, the one thing you shouldve learned from that is that sacraficing monty on the alter is ALWAYS worth any number of bombs
