  • Dive into the world of wetsuits with Jade from Rip Curl UK! In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the essential factors to consider when buying the perfect wetsuit. Meet Maya, our model for today, as we focus on the importance of fit, thickness, entry systems, seams, and more!
Fit is key to a wetsuit's performance. Watch as Jade guides you through the proper fit for the neck, wrists, ankles, chest, and lower back. Avoid flushing by ensuring a snug fit in these areas, making your wetsuit feel like a second skin. Learn how to spot a poorly fitting wetsuit and discover why a proper fit is crucial for your surfing experience.
Knowing your size is essential when shopping for a wetsuit. Visit our website or consult our in-store experts for assistance in finding the perfect fit. Join us in-store to try on your wetsuit; we're here to help you get the right fit for your surfing adventures.
Thickness matters! Jade explains how to choose the right thickness based on the water temperature you'll be surfing in. Check out Rip Curl's temperature guide for recommendations and explore different thickness options, from 2mm spring suits to 6/4 winter suits.
Explore the various entry systems: back zip, chest zip, and zip-free. Discover the pros and cons of each system to find the one that suits your flexibility and warmth preferences. Jade breaks down the different seam types (flat lock stitch, blind stitch, and Fusion) and highlights the importance of flexibility in near pre for a warmer and more performance-oriented suit.
Don't forget about the lining! Find out how a lined wetsuit can enhance warmth and flexibility, providing an extra layer of comfort in the water.
Finally, Jade emphasizes the importance of finding a wetsuit that fits perfectly before considering the design. At Rip Curl, we offer a variety of designs, ensuring you find the perfect blend of style and functionality.

Any advice for short girls? I’m 4’11 and always struggle with length

Custom may not be as expensive as you think. I used Snugg in Cornwall and they take loads of measurements and make you a custom fit suit. It came out as about the same cost as a top of the range off the peg suit - so it was very expensive, but the bonus is that it's 9 years old and not a single loose thread, which is more than can be said for a lot of off the peg suits - I reckon in that time I'd have been through 5 or 6 off the peg suits, so it worked out cheaper in the long run.

Is it best to work with someone in a shop, especially if you might be an irregular size? I'm 5' tall, large bust and having a hard time finding a suit online that might fit.

Yes definitely! They will know what sizes in which brand works best! Alternatively if you're landlocked, you could call the store and give them your measurements and they can help recommend something to fit :)

I have the same issue - larger hips and bust. I go into shops or warehouses to try them on. I love the fit of Billabong’s Women’s Synergy wetsuits. One key thing is to go a size up, otherwise it’s a struggle to get into.
