    I'd take the B7 because its a lot better looking and its more rare than the 760

    The B7 is said to be sportier than the M760Li plus it's available with full Alpina Lavalina highest quality leather and in Alpina Blue and Green. So I would go for the B7.

      it's because the B7 has the same amount of BHP but has a V8 instead of a V12, lighter engine means more bhp / ton

      in my case, not brand new, but in 5-6 years time it's going to cost about one 3rd of what it retails for. that number is doable for me, if I wont be unemployed then.

    alpinas are not sports cars, they are autobahn cruisers massive GT cars, so yeah a comfort mode makes a lot of sense.

      Almost never driven my B5 in sport, they're built for the autobahn going 330km/h in full comfort!

    I'd take a B6 Gran Coupe over the B7 any day. Best looking BMW they make.

      I;m with you, the only thing I HATE is the steering wheel, and the non digital dash! I mean if you started with a 650, why remove the digital dash?

    I'd take the B7 > M760. The peak power of the M760 is at 1500 rpm and the B7 is at 3500 rmp, better for overtaking at freeway speeds. The colors are so boring on the M760, at least with the B7 you can get it in Alpina Blue & Green. Also, I checked with Joe Achilles who has driven both and he says the B7 is a beast.

    Id take the B7 because- in addition to being better looking and more exclusive- it also seems more directly aligned to the Alpina ethos- where as (very sad to say) M has really lost the plot for as long time now and this M Performance stuff is really silly.

    I would choose the Alpina because they are way cooler and rarer then the normal BMWs.

    I would choose the B7 only because of the exhaust note, and the styling. But I would much rather have a V12, that Rolls Royce engine would be another level.

    Id choose the B7 because it has the ability to stay tamed, is more luxurious and is better for highway driving. At the end of the day it’s which can u live with the longest. I think the b7 is perfect for fun and practicality

    If price were no object I'd choose the 760 just for the 12 cylinder engine. However the 760 base price is almost $20,000 more than the B7. With price taken into consideration I couldn't justify 20k more for the 760 and would therefore choose the B7,

    I like that Alpina is distinct from BMW corporate. they retain there own design and engineering language. amg seems to have fallen victim to mbz corporate homogenization

      weirdshibainu Don't compare the two. AMG is to MB like M is to BMW.
      Also, AMG used to be a separate entity in the early 90s.

    i'd go for 760li...cuz it's got a v12 hence it will supposedly smoother and it gets u bmw individual exclusive....which is nice

    The direct competitor is a Brabus 850 (S-63) and I believe the Brabus would smoke this one all day

      The Brabus has nothing to do with the Alpina. It's not in the same league nor the same philosophy.

      Well Alpina is a BMW tuner and Brabus is a Merc tuner, thereby direct competitors. BMW's inhouse tuning is M-sport and Merc's is AMG so Alpina is not a direct AMG competitor but rather a Brabus competitor. Therefore a Brabus 850 smokes this Alpina all day every day.

      Historically AMG was to Mercedes-Benz the direct equivalent of Alpina to BMW, until M-B bought AMG. BMW Motorsport is an indirect competitor. Both are younger than Alpina. The first car on which BMW Motorsport worked - the 3.0 CSL - was originally a development made by Alpina and based on the 3.0 CS. Since the beginning Alpina has been working with BMW's approval and even collaboration (R&D, engines, production, sales, motorsport...). Meanwhile, M-B doesn't work with Brabus. As I said, Alpina is in a league of its own.
      Brabus does aftermarket modifications only. On the contrary many modifications on Alpinas are directly made by BMW on the production lines at Alpina's request, then unfinished cars are sent to the Alpina factory where they are completed and then only delivered. Alpina is in a different league.
      Finally, Alpina produce cars for everyday use - in terms of comfort, handling, reliability, fuel consumption. That's why you can see them regularly in the streets because they are bought by people who really use these cars in the long term - hundreds of thousands of kilometers. How many Brabus buyers really use their cars? For sure they like to show off in them, but that's all. That's why a Brabus is faster in a straight line but let's see on the long term.

    My 2014 M5 with Comp Pkg and aftermarket retuned to 800 HP gets 22.5 on the highway when driven with intelligence. Yes, I agree keep Kumo

    Love the content as usual. I'd have to go with the B7. V12s are awesome but this thing is just so damn cool. A majority of the public doesn't even know what it is and that scores it points in my book. Now back to planning my Ponzi scheme so I can afford one.

    B7 Alpina is not as common of a 7-Series like the other models regardless of the Power M7 may produce

    You can't compare this to an M7 ... the Alpina cars are for people who want a powerful luxury car but doesn't want an M-Car. it's the perfect between Normal and M-Performance but more classic

    Yea, I never been a fan of the Alpina signature shifter & I was waiting to hear your thoughts about it.
    That's a tough one, M! In one hand, I LOVE V8s & I must have one. In the other, owning a V12 became a life goal of mine …. Soooo flip a coin & 9 outta 10? Lol.
    Or how about a V12 B7? Like the good ol’ B7 5.7 & B8 5.7?

    I would probably choose to buy the Alpina B7 because it's a bit lighter which aids handling and it's also a little cheaper (however considering the price of both of them, does it really matter? Lol.)

    Alpina has had those gear switch buttons on the steering wheel on all Alpina automatics since a long long time ago. They want to differenciate themselves with them.

    M760 seems better option than the B7. The reasons are: - they are both uber 7 series but the "M" has a more prestigious engine. The B7 might be sportier but if I were to buy such vehicle it will be about passing power, prestige and exclusivity which a V12 delivers in spades.

    I'd take the Alpina B7 as they are more exclusive then the 7 series and just that little bit more special but I agree about the steering wheel shifters they should stick to normal paddle shifters and not those stupid buttons!

    Hi, Mercedes Benz 2017 S63 sedan has a listed curb weight of 4806 lbs. which is the same as the B7, not 270 pounds heavier?! Otherwise, great review. I am curious how you would evaluate the new 2018 S63 coming later this year in relation to this model. The new S63 has a rated 0-60 time of 3.4, according to Mercedes Benz.

    1, A fantastic review. 2, Wheres the ALPINA decals on the lower front valance? 3, It does not look anywhere near as nice as a S63 AMG.

    I'm not the demographics for this car, but the color and interior put this above any other 7 series and dare I say S-Class. My ideal hauler would be a 4 door M2 hatchback/wagon... I know no such beast exists, but it should. The M4 is just too big for me. If they made an Alpina B2 hatchback with the blue and cognac interior... I would be first in line regardless of price.

      A 4-door M2 hatchback/wagon is either a 4-door 1 series (it's ok, especially with the M140i), either you want an M version of the 2 series Active Tourer or Gran Tourer. Yuck.

    Alpinas are great, but for the G11 G12 platforms of the new 7s, I don't think this is the best they can come up with. The 4.4 V8, which is very good engine, plus some tuning from Alpinas, that makes it even better, most likely will be replaced with an even higher power unit with less displacement, the most likely result BMW chooses to continue the 4.4, is most likely due to package combination, so I will wait until, BMW revises the 4.4 to 4 litre, and that will most likely be even more interesting, since Mercedes and Audi have gone that route. Then, we will most likely seen the Alpina 7 becomes a luxo rocket.
