I've noticed that hands down, rainbowfish seem to be THE most significant carriers of mycobacteria. I stopped keeping them after several years for that reason. And yes, I have a history in vet med and did confirm the diagnosis with histopathology. Note that Pseudomugils (often called dwarf rainbows but unrelated to the larger species) don't seem to have this issue.
Garter snakes in New England eat American Toads, Tree Frogs as well as their Tadpoles and Bull Frog tadpoles. Come late april to Mid June you can catch the tadpoles in the wild for fresh food.
I LOVE THE SETUP!!!!!!! It is so cool. I’m trying out different enclosure types for my boy. But, um... I don’t mean to be rude but you shouldn’t dangle a garter snake like that. He needs his body supported, just like a baby.
Aw man, I missed the stream today! I was busy working on a vegetable garden and lost track of time. While working on it I ended up stumbling upon a colony of Isopods!
I'm getting a red sides garter snake. Idk if I'm getting 2 of them bc they're adorable. They were born the end of this summer 2021 tho, I asked the employee there Edit: 😩 I may need to wait another month bc I count wrong of how the items was going to cost, I'll have enough for items & buy the terrarium but not enough for the snake yet. But I think it will be the best so the terrarium system has time to set up the remaining time.
I have a Californian and a San Fran living together, about to make them bioactive! My Californian is the most defensive snake I have ever had (she musks, strikes and bites EVERY TIME 🤣) She's definitely taming down a little now though. My San Fran is an absolute sweetheart and the complete opposite to her sister!
@@Aquarimax Serpentalities! Love it 🤣 they are such smart, inquisitive little snakes! I've not had snakes as smart as these guys before! I've started target training them which it going great
Is this the max amount of garters you could have in an enclosure this size? If you added more hiding spots and utilitized more of the height with ledges, could you house more in there same size?
I think you will find a lot of differing opinions on that. Ledges and more hiding spots would help. You could house nor males than females in an enclosure of this size.
Hey! Quick question for you! What size bin do you use or recommend for isopods? My isopods are reproducing quickly and I don't want to have to move them for a while after this.
Kondase Houdini is the smallest, Ruby is the biggest, and their patterns are a bit different too. They also act differently. Ruby startles a bit easier. Houdini and Rufus are more relaxed. 🐍🐍🐍👍
Russ, Tilapia and catfish that are farmed can often have mycobacteria. It is probably better to offer wild caught fish, especially since you are already worried about that. Cheers, Chris
Aquarimax Pets I have 3 ribbon snakes and I catch bluegill as the do not have high thiaminase and if you freeze them for a week or two it should kill bacteria and parasite that could be in the fish. Every once in a while I offer a pinky mouse or a worm just to change their diet.
@@wafflenuggets5736 it's actually better for their main diet to consist of mice since there's more nutrition in them, and offer worms and fish as a treat. At least that's what I've been told by many herp experts lol. I've never kept garters.

Omg cuties! I love how they all cluster at the front hoping for handouts XD reminds me of my cat hovering at my feet when there's chicken out
They're adorable!

Cool mate never kept snakes I do love them though I would love to get one at some point
Ant Trails they are some of the most delightful creatures I have ever kept. I hope you do keep some someday!

Danger Noodle is escaping as you feed Hoodini.
Pup314 little guy lives up to his name! Luckily he didn’t get far.

Horrificdude5 I’ll catch you on the next one. Gardening and isopod discovery are good way to connect to the natural world as well, 👍
I'm planning on getting a garter soon and have a P. Scaber colony. Do you think these two would do well together?

Hi Russ. I got here late bute enjoyed your video. My granddaughter is into snakes. Thank you

They certainly have personalities!! (Serpentalities?)

That’s awesome! I think I may try that with mine...I have target rained various species...these would be my first reptiles to target train!
@@Aquarimax I'd recommend checking out Lori Torrini's channel as she target trains a lot of her snakes ☺️

Hi Russ,
I've heard that Garter Snakes have saliva that can cause reactions in some people. Have you ever experienced this?
Cheers,
Chris
Grassypeak i was bitten several times as a kid, but never had issues. The most recent on-camera bite didn’t have any effects either. 👍
I love mine
How many do you have?
I love the cricket sounds! (must be hot in there)
zenn22 thank you! The cricket bin is heated separately, fortunately the room is comfortable. 😊👍
Beautiful animals! What type of enclosure? Its beautiful!
Thank you! I appreciate that! This is a Zilla 40 breeder, with a Biodude garter snake bioactive kit.
Hey! Quick question for you! What size bin do you use or recommend for isopods?
My isopods are reproducing quickly and I don't want to have to move them for a while after this.
Andrea Castaneda If they are already reproducing, a larger plastic bin (16 quart) is a good size for most species for a good while.
Its fine to feed garter snakes fish but not all the time
Do you have any rouch surfaced rocks (small volcanic rocks) for them to help them shed?
Pup314 the outside of their water dish is rough, as is the cork bark. They seem to do the job. 👍
I have 1 albino garter snake Im getting another one
What are "hofs" that you were talking about when talking about permit issues?
Spencer Walser that is Porcellio hoffmannseggi, a large Spanish isopod also known as ‘Titans’.
@@Aquarimax do you still sell on ksl? I don't see any listing for them.
Spencer Walser i do, but I have been taking a break during this COVID~19 stuff...
How do you tell them apart?

What are you feeding him?
What size is the enclosure?
What's the little plant that's between the water bowl and the cork flat?
That just showed up! I have no idea what it is . 😊👍
To me it almost looks like a citrus seedling, but I don't see how it would have got in there.
Joshua Knoebel. It will be interesting to see how it develops!
Yeah, I can't wait to watch.
What is the food the snake got?
Bob & Kim Dusselleeuw these were reptilinks, the rabbit recipe (whole ground rabbit...fur,bones, everything.)
Thanks!

Grassypeak that is a fair point. I don’t offer it often...maybe I will stop altogether.

The native garter snakes here (Thamnophis terrestris vagrans) eat lot of (introduced) bullfrog tadpoles too, along with earthworms and slugs. 👍
