That was fun. At the beginning of the video I felt a bit frustrated (my VM was at the beginning stuck on black screen after I switched it to Bridged Adapter) but towards the end was having a blast. Also, that vim function that allows you to mass prepend text into each of the lines is massive. I wonder what is the subtraction equivalent.
Thx for this! You mentioned running this on bare metal, I was thinking of trying it out to monitor my home network, ..,would this be a suitable tool? 👍
Getting an SF_IMAP error with the preprocessor repeatedly failing for practically everything I do. Any solution to that? Been scouring the internet for answers and it doesn't seem like there's much.
Please Sir, create a vedio demonstrating how to forward traffic from one network interface to another when installing snort on bare metal, it would be very useful for when deploying snort in the field, thank you
Every time i run the command to install snort I get the following error : ┌──(johnnybegood㉿kalilinux)-[~] └─$ sudo apt-get install snort -y Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package snort I have already sudo apt update && upgrade pero nada still dont work for me. Is there an optional way to get this on kali linux?
This video was very informative and helpful. Thank you for sharing it. May you post another video showing how to install and configure Snort using Red Hat-based Linux Distro? I can't seem to figure it out on CentOS Stream 9
I'm trying to install snort in Kali, but shows no such package, how to fix that? Does it work only on Ubuntu? Technically as Snort is used to monitor network traffic, then I should be able to set my destination IP as my Kali Linux IP and the source IP from which the request is coming from to Metasploitable or any Windows VM or a random target. And both Kali and Ubuntu are Linux so why is it not downloading on my Kali?
When apt-get install is "Unable to locate package" it means it couldn't be found in repository, please check your repositories enabled (main, universe, reserved and multiverse) in `/etc/apt/sources.list`
thank you alex for this great video i really learned a lot from it , I think you made a typo when you tried to run snort in the name of Interface you typed enp3s0 instead of enp0s3
Sorry I don’t understand, Snort is not available on kali Linux so this video is to fix it? English is not my mother tongue, I found different tutorial for that and I don’t understand. I use virtual box
i cant find snort.conf instead its showing snort.lua i opened the snort.lua in my nano editor but the contents aren't the same compared to snort.conf u showed, just a little bit similar with alot of things missing
hello, did you find a solution for this? I continued with it and editted the IP part but now im not able to activate snort because of some "console logger issue"
brothe i faced so many errors sudo apt-get install snort-y Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package snort-y like this can you sort it out
I also tried to explain the same topic but this guy is just amazing

I'm using Parrot OS Security. Just type in "sudo apt install snort" at the command line. Should work on Kali Linux.
When apt-get install is "Unable to locate package" it means it couldn't be found in repository, please check your repositories enabled (main, universe, reserved and multiverse) in `/etc/apt/sources.list`
