- This video covers the process of installing and configuring Snort 2 for the purpose of intrusion detection. An IDS is a system/host planted within a network to capture traffic and identify malicious activity based on predefined rules, after which, this malicious activity is logged, and a notification is sent to the relevant parties informing them of an intrusion.

That was fun. At the beginning of the video I felt a bit frustrated (my VM was at the beginning stuck on black screen after I switched it to Bridged Adapter) but towards the end was having a blast. Also, that vim function that allows you to mass prepend text into each of the lines is massive. I wonder what is the subtraction equivalent.

thank you alex for this great video i really learned a lot from it , I think you made a typo when you tried to run snort in the name of Interface you typed enp3s0 instead of enp0s3
Unable to locate package snort. Can't find a way to solve this problem, tried to modify etc/apt/sources.list but it doesn't work.

Sorry I don’t understand, Snort is not available on kali Linux so this video is to fix it? English is not my mother tongue, I found different tutorial for that and I don’t understand. I use virtual box

When I type 'sudo vim /etc/snort/snort.conf' on my Linux Mint VM terminal, it says "command not found." What am I supposed to do here?
What command exactly? You might need to install the vim text editor if your system doesn’t have it
How do you update your repository to get snort? Mine says E: Unable to locate package
Getting an SF_IMAP error with the preprocessor repeatedly failing for practically everything I do. Any solution to that? Been scouring the internet for answers and it doesn't seem like there's much.

I'm trying to install snort in Kali, but shows no such package, how to fix that? Does it work only on Ubuntu?
Technically as Snort is used to monitor network traffic, then I should be able to set my destination IP as my Kali Linux IP and the source IP from which the request is coming from to Metasploitable or any Windows VM or a random target. And both Kali and Ubuntu are Linux so why is it not downloading on my Kali?

I'm using Parrot OS Security. Just type in "sudo apt install snort" at the command line. Should work on Kali Linux.
When apt-get install is "Unable to locate package" it means it couldn't be found in repository, please check your repositories enabled (main, universe, reserved and multiverse) in `/etc/apt/sources.list`

Every time i run the command to install snort I get the following error :

i cant find snort.conf instead its showing snort.lua
i opened the snort.lua in my nano editor but the contents aren't the same compared to snort.conf u showed, just a little bit similar with alot of things missing
hello, did you find a solution for this? I continued with it and editted the IP part but now im not able to activate snort because of some "console logger issue"
