Tory MP Craig Mackinlay: I lost my arms and legs to sepsis

- Warning: Craig Mackinlay has shared footage of himself in hospital before his operation in order to help raise awareness of sepsis.
Some people may find the footage distressing.
The Conservative MP for South Thanet contracted sepsis in September 2023, a little over two months later he had a quadruple amputation.
He recorded this video from his bed at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, just a few hours before he underwent a five-hour operation to remove his legs and arms.

Wow I am blown away by this man's courage and tenacity in the face of such adversity. Best wishes for your recovery and continued strength! Wow !
He is my local MP; a very brave man who deserves the utmost credit for his fighting spirit; and of course, his wife for standing by him.

Conservatives have done nothing for public services, I can’t see that changing. Terrible thing to happen, he certainly took it like a champ.
Ctly my thoughts. They've been working so hard for so long to run it into the ground (although I don't know where this guy has personally stood on these issues), but they've literally saved his life. Someone mentioned he's going back to work, so hopefully he'll be working against the party norm for these issues.
NHS received over £220 billion in the last 12 months so i don't know how much more taxes need to be spent to "make it work" but it appears throwing money at the NHS simply does not work

Your immune system fights so hard that it damages your body beyond repair.
Our bodies are constantly fighting infections. I hate to say it, but sometimes bad things happen for no reason. (To clarify, sepsis is caused by our bodies improperly fighting an infection, and instead turning on itself.)
Usually a lick from your dog causes this.
The safe & effective. Sepsis is up 30% since the roll out.
Acceptance and gratitude give him a luminous, inspiring quality. I wish him and his family and friends much happiness.

I developed sepsis 5 years ago. I had the rigors etc. It went undiagnosed but luckily I was put on mega strong antibiotics for 8 weeks as they thought I had a prostate infection. In can happen very quickly. Poor bloke.
@jakestown what antibiotics were u given? My husband is on Florquinalone for 2 infections?
@user-et7hb8kv8p I honestly cannot remember. One lot was to help the muscles relax, and the second lot, which I took for 6 to 8 weeks was strong stuff which I think is also used to treat malaria. It turned out to be a pilonidal sinus cyst that had become infected but not noticed by the many doctors who saw me. 2 years later it reared its head and I had surgery. My body went through a lot and it has never really been the same since. It was frightening.

Sepsis is caused by the body's (aggressive) immune response to an infection. It could have been any minor viral or bacterial infection
@@katiePetsy an infection in all four limb extremities or rampant blood clots causing Necrosis?
@@Spyhookthe immune response affects all areas. Poor circulatory and unconrolled infection leads to the limbs being lost in part due to their distance from the heart and how hard the heart sttuggles during sepsis and yes, likely clots . The body prioritizes the brain over the limbs.

A very strong video of a brave person. Grateful he has shared this as personally have never seen just exactly what sepsis can do. Unfortunately the Telegraph has failed his efforts by not providing any advice/information about sepsis within this video which would have probably helped educate many!

@@foxyroxytmsepsis causes extremely low blood pressure. Vasopressors are a medication given to raise BP, however can have the side effect of causing extremities to lose blood supply and die off
