    As used in this chapter-
    (1) the term “international terrorism” means activities that-
    (A) involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State;
    (B) appear to be intended-
    (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
    (C) occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States, or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum...
    ...
    (5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that-
    (A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State
    (B) appear to be intended-
    (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;

As far as divine commanded genocide goes, one of the most egregious aspects is the real reason provided in the text. It was not for the poor children being burned as offerings, YAHWEH sits and watches children suffer all the time. The main reason is that they were being offered to a rival god. It boils down to a petty infighting between the local gods. We have no accepted historical records were YW dealt with the Chinese this way.

It would seem to me that in the minds of these ancient people, there was a deterrance componant contained within these various laws. Will a rapist think twice before trapping himself into a marriage with a woman and a family who hate him? Will a person think twice before swinging his fist knowing the damage he does may be visited upon him? Is there an inate psychological mechanism that would have been a significant regulator of people of that time and culture? The question that follows is: Would these in fact be effective deterrent? Do we have record of these laws being carried out?
The thing that comes to my mind however is the situation in which a frustrated incel decides to rape the hottest virgin in town because in his demented mind he will be garanteed the most beautiful woman as his wife for life. How could these laws have been exploited...as ALL laws eventually are.

I find it interesting (if typical) that Christians (and Muslims, and Jews) are all about their stolen Sumerian Wargod Yahweh, but oblivious to his parents (Ninhursag and Enki) as well as Biblically (the same for the Quran and Torah) illiterate where the language is concerned.
I think that it is one thing to believe in a Bronze Age deity from Sumerian mythology, but to be abjectly ignorant of that deity's parents, or the fact that Yahweh has parents is quite telling of the caliber of followers of this/these form/s of theism.
I get that this screws up their whole "one and only" and "omnipotence" and "creator of existence" thing, but still. If you are going to embrace a whitewashed version of a minor wargod from a pantheon of 223 gods and goddesses from Sumer, at least learn the history and include his folks in your prayers and superstitious nonsense.

I left the teaching of church when I was 15. The following poem and list of books replaced all that.
    “Freedom”
    Resonating,
    In longer and longer
    Patience intervals
    The thought to be myself.
    Emotions arise,
    From the mish-mash forest
    Of a thousand voices past,
    Which our mind is still
    Sorting out,
Or, just trying to get back.
    We need to learn
    To hear them at last,
    For we haven’t yet figured
    Their spin,
    Much less who they are
    Or where they’ve been,
    The meaning of within--
    Mother, father,
    Pastor, brother.
    To get a handle,
We need to place you away,
    Inside our inner eye,
    Ourselves as well,
    And be very still;
    To watch the play,
    Or change the stage…
    With a past-reaction update.
    To find your strength,
    To find your strength,
    For the self-bestowed treasure
    Projects through the gate--
    Or, just cancel it,
    And say good-bye.
    And with much practice fit,
    The forest will appear then,
    Without you having to try.
This poem has an interesting benefit -- of showing people how to get control of their own inner thought processes, by separating (“projecting”) present-based awareness imaginatively outward, away from the tumult of our usual, scattered thought processes. And THEN, one’s suggestions have much greater focus and potency, for freeing oneself from limiting or negative thought patterns, attitudes, expectations. It points to our inherent INNER FREEDOM, irrespective of physical limitations.
    Suggested Readings:

If two people choose each other, their parents can be honored during the ceremony, but why the "giving away" part? I don't see the problem with plagiarism. I've never seen this argument in the means of intellectual property. As far as I remember the epic of Gilgamesh was written hundreds of years earlier than the genesis stories around Noah. The laws differ a bit in each country but usually rights expire after 50 to 70 years. That's why everybody now can use Beethoven's 9th symphony without fearing legal ramifications from the heirs of Beethoven.
I always understood it as using older stories and converting them to fit them to current beliefs. There is nothing illegal in this. It just counters the argument, that the bible was written by god or at least was inspired by god. This makes no sense, when we can clearly see, that the stories are derived from much older tales.

The Bible is the story of Yahweh's fulfilled plan of redemption given exclusively to ancient Israelites cursed with the Old Covenant Law of sin and death and pertains to no one alive today, soteriologically and eschatologically speaking. Here's more...
If you believe the Bible, then you'd have to agree with Jesus in Matthew 15:24, that he only came for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
You'd have to agree with Jesus in Matthew 5:18, that no jot nor tittle of the Old Covenant Law would pass away until the Old Covenant system, temple and people associated with it (what Jews referred to as "heaven and earth") passed away.
You'd have to agree with history, that the Old Covenant system, temple and people associated with it passed away in AD 70.
You'd have to agree with Paul, who said in Romans 5:13, "Where there is no (Old Covenant) Law, sin is not taken into account." This of course means that salvation was only needed by those who had sin taken into account, which is not us today.
You'd also have to agree with Hebrews 9:15, that redemption was only for those who sinned under the first covenant, which again...is not us today.
The bitter pill of truth is that nobody has been saved nor redeemed for nearly two thousand years. The "church today" has been in a massive error; a complete hijacking of ancient Israel's exclusive redemptive narrative, the Bible.
But...but...I'm a gentile!" Are you? The gentiles Paul and the disciples were preaching to were either Greek converts to Judaism, or the elect diaspora, grafted-in descendants of the tribes of Israel who had been dispersed among the nations. Through the ministry of the disciple's great commission, they were called out from the nations to again be a holy nation of kings and priests, sealed for the day of redemption, which only they lived to see. Nobody today is a gentile of that sort.
Today's self-appointed, self-professing "Christians" have been hoodwinked into believing they're sinners under a law that passed away, and need a savior who said he came for someone else, who will save them from a sin that's already been removed, and a judgement that already happened, and allow them into a covenant that was made with someone else. The fact is, we today were never and are not part of ancient Israel's exclusive redemptive narrative, the Bible. ~Michael Bradley

As with so many things = that created with the best of intentions often yields results antithetical to how it was originally envisioned. Man as an example has a long history of creating new technologies faster than he can learn to use them in a socially responsible way - just look at the internet today. Our subjective nature is often our own worst enemy as it drives us to actions we might not otherwise do - and allows us to rationalize the same committed by others.
"God," he [Epicurus] says, "either wants to eliminate bad things and cannot,
or can but does not want to,
or neither wishes to nor can,
or both wants to and can.
If he wants to and cannot, then he is weak and this does not apply to god.
If he can but does not want to, then he is spiteful which is equally foreign to god’'s nature.
If he neither wants to nor can, he is both weak and spiteful, and so not a god.
If he wants to and can, which is the only thing fitting for a god, where then do bad things come from? Or why does he not eliminate them?"

And saying the wrong thing is going to stick with me and make me feel ashamed when being reminded of it. Even years down the line. I feel more like that around women than I feel around men. Also I really don't mind being called beautiful by a woman. I sometimes feel like feminist logic presupposes alot and views every interaction through a confirmation bias lens. Even though I often agree with it. It tends to demonize men. Men who are often self conscious and just as afraid of you as you are of them. And is internalizing all this negativity. Maybe explaining the power dynamics of it would lessen the negativity. Thar It's a little bit like a man getting catcalled by another more physically imposing man in prison.

That the roman catholic, jewish and muslem religion are constructs does not mean that the Christ Consciousness within beings (humans) does not exist. On the contrary, when you have so much bad people around within every race, you need more than one enlightend being. The 10 commandments are still the basic precepts of all humanity. But no church and not many people follow. To think these laws have been given for fun is not very wise, given that our ancestors existed and gave us the tools with Jesus, with the Christ Consciousness, to solve our problems in our now, not yesterday, not tomorrow.

When you read the scriptures(kjv) You must "rightly divide" God's Word" Time past, Today, Ages to Come, The Fullness of Times. Secular and religious atheist(unbelievers) unanimously agree that Jesus Christ is a real historical person. The question is simple, was he a liar, or God Almighty. Take your pick. The only religion in the history of the world that God gave to a people was at Sanai. The law given to Moses, could not save or redeem the Hebrew nation, the law could not make them righteous. The "Law" was the knowledge of sin. The law revealed, how unrighteous they really were. The "law" was the administration of death. The wages of sin is death. The unbeliever or hyper atheist tend to be the most "self righteous" people. They blame God for all the evil that mankind does to one another. One thing the atheist can't explain away, "death" The wages of sin is death. Thats why we die physically. If you need a reminder, visit a graveyard. God's Holiness never changes, however who He reveals that Holiness too, and when He reveals that Holiness, does change. God his pouring out His free Grace, to a evil, greedy, religious, superstitious world, today. By faith alone in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Atheisism is a religious performance system, like Catholicism or Islam. Pure evil.

And why design a suicidally prideful rebel angel, to begin with? HIS WAGES were not death - not even 'spiritual death'. He KEPT many powers, and could even REVISIT heaven - to give his fairly preposterous looking views about Job, which got taken utterly seriously.
      That seems rather strange.
And were many major church leaders to be TRUSTED to interpret Leviticus 25:46, Exodus 21:20, Deuteronomy 21:13 and more, for all time - or not? Or at least, for centuries, to come. Nor was it ONLY Catholicism that fell drastically short in this area. There was also numerous wars, both feudal AND sectarian - almost constantly.
And widespread antisemitism too. See also Calvin.
And how does nature operate WITHOUT death, initially? Would reproduction have still happened, but also with no upper limit?
And sin still began in heaven - first. Arose almost INEXPLICABLY.
If Romans 1:18 is now going to be quoted, once more - despite how much it clashes with 1 Corinthians 2:14's implications, and the 'glass darkly' and 'labor pains' (NONE of which pagans would inherently KNOW before looking at visible nature, alone) then is it fair this verse be updated to show some of the ANGELIC perspective?
As the logic of it seemed to fail, with rather a lot of them, in the part of the nature they could see, with 'invisible qualities and attributes, clearly understood' that were possibly even fully VISIBLE to them?
And many of us do hope He changed - since say, Joshua 7:24, 1 Kings 14, and probably 2 Samuel 24, too.
70,000 dead - over a census? How alarming. I wonder where the Inquisition rated on a scale between that, and one man picking up sticks on Sabbath?

In the same way that the claimed words of the Jesus character were placed upon his lips decades later, the wants, desires, commands etc of Yahweh were just the wants & desires of the primitive desert men who - in a clever act of transference - conveniently placed them upon this imaginary god and claimed that these were his wants & desires.

    • @epicofgilgamesh9964

      Absolutely. All spelt out below.
"So for example, when we read carefully what Yahweh says in the book of Leviticus, namely that the Aaronids (the sons of Aaron only), are high priests contrary to the Levites, that they alone are Yahweh’s mediators and the Levites are reduced to mere ministers of the Aaronids, that only through sacrifice can one atone for sins and not confession as preached by the Levites, or more precisely the Levite’s Yahweh, etc., *it can be no coincidence that in these laws and commandments,* ***which are placed on the mouth of Yahweh,*** *that Yahweh himself is presented advocating and legitimating the very views and beliefs of the specific priestly guild writing the text, and, contrary to the views and beliefs of their rivals, the Levites and the Levite’s Yahweh!* We will examine this more closely when we get to the contradictions in these books. But in short, this was the function of ancient literature, and we are allowing these ancient texts to speak for themselves. *In this particular case, the Levites and Aaronids wrote specific texts that each advocated their religious beliefs, views, and their position as high priests* ***by writing these sentiments directly into the mouth of their god!***
But just studying the Bible alone, scientifically, affords us the occasion *to see that many of these so-called words of Yahweh are* ***actually the very words of the texts’ authors.*** When we see numerous texts employing this ancient literary technique, and moreover, ***presenting Yahweh as the spokesperson for their own views and agenda,*** *and* ***contrary*** *to Yahweh’s other words in other texts written by other authors employing the same technique,* how can one conclude otherwise.
In other words, when in the composite text that we now call the Bible we find: Yahweh declaring that only Aaronids can officiate as his priests and Yahweh declaring that all Levites can officiate as high priest; Yahweh declaring that sin is atoned through confession and Yahweh declaring that sin is only expiated through the sacrificial cult, no exceptions; Yahweh declaring that he gave laws and commandments at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that he only gave the Ten Commandments at Sinai; Yahweh commanding to exterminate all the Canaanites without pity and Yahweh declaring to tolerate them and live in their midst; Yahweh declaring that the wilderness generation were disloyal and rebellious and Yahweh declaring that they were a paradigm of loyalty and faith; Yahweh declaring that he may be offered sacrifices at any altar and Yahweh declaring that there is only one altar where sacrifices are to be offered up; Yahweh declaring that the people saw him at Sinai and Yahweh declaring that they only heard his voice; Yahweh declaring that circumcision is an eternal covenant and keeping the land depends on observing this very commandment and Yahweh declaring the Mosaic laws as the covenant and keeping the land is dependent on keeping these laws; Yahweh declaring that he dwells in the midst of the people and Yahweh declaring that he only resides in heaven; Yahweh commanding Passover to be celebrated by all at Jerusalem and Yahweh commanding it to be celebrated at each person’s home; Yahweh commanding that animals for consumption must be ritually sacrificed and Yahweh commanding that they don’t have to be sacrificed ritually, etc. ***one must conclude that Yahweh is being used by these authors, each with their own contrary views and beliefs as a spokesperson for each of these authors’ agendas.*** These are all the personal, and competing, views, theological beliefs, and religious systems of our biblical authors. And this is only the tip of the iceberg."

You can also see for Josh just don't know what he's talking about I don't care what kind of diplomacy has, the whole book is telling you the Angels rebelled against God and God uses the children of Israel to kill all of the Giants which are supposed to be the descendants of the Angels from Genesis 3 15.
When you go look at who Israel killing, they're all Giants specifically the 11 nations of the Canaanites are the Giants the land of Canaan is also called The Land of the Giants.

Numbers 13 33And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Deuteronomy 3:11 KJV - For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
Deuteronomy 3:13 KJV - And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
And this foolishness when did Jesus confirm, well he's the author and finisher of the book according to the Christian so the book has just confirmed their Quest was to remove the Giants AKA Nephilim

I've listened to and/or engaged with so many apologists over the past couple of years, really just trying to understand something more about their religions (mostly some flavor of Christianity usually). Not one of them makes rational sense, and finding agreement among them on any single subject is all but impossible - each has their own "special" take. Collectively, they're the most ridiculous group of people on the planet. It would be hilarious if it was a Monty Python sketch.

When you say, "... finding agreement amongst (Christians) on any single subject is all but impossible" --- l totally agree. BUT l would add that finding agreement amongst 100% of all people on ANY topic on 100% of the planet is 100% impossible !! That shows that we are ALL alike or unlike to some variable percentage in 100% of ALL creation !
When we are hurting so deeply that we can't find goodness in others, our only hope for healing is when we see and try to help others when they are hurting. Sometimes it takes only one very much needed hug or only a few kind words of of sincere affirmation that brings healing to the one in need ! And guess what ! Somehow, in some time, in some way the healing we need will come to us ! (I do realize there are those who are much more needy; but true, sincere love given WILL be returned !
(Which brings me to another very vital point: Sex is NOT love; but it is the gift that REAL love gives ! The greatest LIE that society has deceived us with is that "having sex" = "making love". )
