It has something to do with "look, I am so powerful that I can wear anything and you still have to deeply respect me" . Have you ever felt awkward at a church when a priest does some ridiculous gestures and talks about some imaginary entities and you are supposed to take it serious in order to not offend anyone? At the olden days, it was not that you did not want to offend someone but not to be stoned to death. It is an upbuilding of authority over milennia. And it still works. A ridiculous person like Trump has devoted followers.
Religion is mostly about tradition. Which means that there was a period of time in history when these outfits didn't come across as totally ridiculous. "How shall we awe and inspire the masses?" "How about putting a tiny little metal cross on top of your hat?"
Yet the one they say they follow never wore any such outfits, nor dictated this but was very modest. Some of these outfits, in some places and ranks cost a fortune. I wonder if Jesus would approve.

Whether Osman likes Clarkson or not is beside the point. His job there and then was to take the mickey out of Clarkson, which he did to great effect apparently since it's managed to piss you off so much. If you want some better examples of preconceived dislike, check out the episode when Johnson presents and see how they have a go at him, or any of the episodes where Farage appears (while I dislike him utterly I have to say that he does take the jokes against him in good spirit) or the wonderful moment when Hislop has a go at Johnny Mercer (which is not even funny!), or even worse when the whole lot of them spend thirty minutes ripping Angus Deayton . Then compare those to the relatively light treatment that Clarkson got.
If you are simply saying that Osman went to far, well I would even agree with you. It would have been much more effective had he just got out a couple of gags and then moved on. But there you go. It was the heat of the moment, and it's easy with hindsight. But if you are really trying to say that Osman shouldn't say anything because Clarkson earns more money than you, well I can only reply that you must be an American. With, of course, a grin on my face, because that is satire. Have a good day, y'all.
The woman who Farage invited up to his hotel suite (at the first of the video), is she the one who had his face tattooed on her arm?
I don’t know when the photo Camilla Long uses in her Times newspaper column was taken , but it can’t have been this millennium.
ive always thought she's been smokin hot.,.. no matter what century.
During covid the Americans were cracking up about avocados. The only time I ever thought about avocados. So I bought one and it was shite. Only in America.
Whoever did the captions cant spell received. Twice it was spelt wrong. Recieved
I didn't get the reference to Angus Deayton at 24:19...
24:19 Ian says "I know who won the Nobel prize for economics".
What reference were you talking about?
The Nobel Prize for Economics was won by a Scottish fella called Angus Deaton that week lol

😂 Thank you. My eyes fooled me initially into seeing a "y" in Deaton when there wasn't one. I couldn't therefore see the link. After you posted your response, I noticed my error. Much obliged 👍
@@poolyboy81 Is that the same Angus who used to host WILTY before Rob Brydon?

Whos the wee guy on with Jon Richardson, Michael sheen was presenting.
Ian Hislop? He is on every single episode, along with Paul Merton. When you said 'wee guy' I thought you must have bee talking about Andy Hamilton.

It's satire. You dont belong in that arena.

Five year's later and that's still all this mug can say when the right faces criticism.

That whole En Garde joke wound me up (mildly) when this first went on-air. It's not En Garde, it's On Guard, as in "Transmitting on the Guard frequency", an internationally recognised frequency that pilots monitor. I know, nerdy right.
En Garde also exists though....

8:43 I can't help it but every time I see a religious leader I can't help being astounded by their absurd outfits. Don't they ever look in the mirror and think "I can't appear in public dressed like that! I look absolutely ludicrous!" Maybe that guy's just realised and it's made him miserable. "Why can't I wear a smart suit like the other guy?!"
Late addition: There's another one at 1:04:19. I mean, what do they bleedin' well look like!? What a dozy looking pillock!
@@garrick3727 Yeah, there was a period when these outfitsd were even more ridicolous. And if you queestioned them, you would be executed on the spot.
Yet the one they say they follow never wore any such outfits, nor dictated this but was very modest. Some of these outfits, in some places and ranks cost a fortune. I wonder if Jesus would approve.
David Tennant is so hot!
