To be fair I think that if the individual is entertaining enough I can be fully immersed in and enjoy videos that are just talking with little to no footage. (Green Room Pythons)
@@Ljplaysplanes while that's gonna be the case with some viewers and creators, I wanna see footage of the animals regardless of the presenter's talent and charm.
i grew up with snakes, my mom had two red tail boas, and i now own a ball python and love the lil guy! snakes are one of my favorite pets! thanks for the great vid adam!
I finally got my first Children's python.because of watching your videos on them, granted it was a spotted python but the children's python is great too, he is the sweetest little guy and I'm so happy you talked about them, I really want a spotted python now. Thank you for all your videos, watching them has gotten me through some hard times.
I had a Florida kingsnake for 13 years, also my first snake. I was told they can be bitey, not easy to handle, not advisable for a first snake. He was so friendly, never bit, loved being handled so I suppose it depends on the snake itself. RIP Soloman.
Garter snakes themselves fit the “something for most people”. They come in so many colors, so many patterns, so many sizes, and so many varieties of behaviors. They have rad morphs and localities. Finally, they are diurnal and inquisitive. Mine follow me around and love to watch me work in the reptile room. They are just so much fun to engage with. I love garters if that wasn’t apparent. My absolute favorite snakes.
I absolutely love my Pygmy Python. While we are not supposed to pick a favorite, he is my favorite snake. You actually named him on one of your lives a few years ago lol.
Garter snakes were my introduction to reptiles. Going into fields and bushes as a kid to find the cute little guys. I love them, hoping to add some to my collection soon.
Small note on carpet pythons: they love to eat. Ever since I got mine they have never missed a meal. Also note: the carpet pythons from West Papuan are no longer called Irian Jaya but west Papuan Carpets.
Garter snakes make such great pets. Mine is so inquisitive, was very easy to target train and is a great eater! He loves to climb and swim. I do highly recommend diurnal animals for a lot of people, and garters fit the bill!
This channel is so rad! Really appreciate the chill and compassionate approach you take to reptile care - I think I'm going to end up with a Ball Python soon because of you haha
Also speaking of uncommon rat snakes, trans-Pecos rat snakes are DELIGHTFUL and more people should know about them. Super handleable and mellow, similar temperament to corns but move at half the speed, BEAUTIFUL pattern, cool morphs, smaller than corn snakes. The only trick to them is that you need to feed them a feeder size smaller than you’d feed any other snake their size. Mine is 4 and refuses to eat anything bigger than a hopper
Your right on the money with Gardner snakes loven water, when i grew up in petawawa id goto the river in the spring time and as kids we would find hundreds sitting on the black rocks sunning themselves
Re. Carpet Pythons: It's worth noting that they have a reputation of being a bit bitey, but what it really comes down to is that Carpets have a very strong feeding response. So it might be worth making sure you only feed with tongs or try spot-training with them. Also, apart from the ethical issues, it's worth noting that feeding a captive snake live food is best avoided as it can cause harm to the snake due to parasites and in the case of rodents, the 'food' fighting back.
I have 4 carpets, I got my first on in 2016 she’s now 13 years old and has only bit me once. My zebra is a 2021 baby but hasn’t been handled much so she’s a bit psychotic. My Jaguar is also a 2021 baby and I’ve had her for three years has only bitten me once but she has a very strong feeding response and will occasionally strike at the enclosure when she wants a rat even tho she just had one a few days prior.
I already have A Woma, a jungle carpet python, and five garter snakes. The woma has such a great personality and is always very inquisitive. I would recommend a woma to anyone. The garter snakes are pretty skittish but are so much fun to watch. Carpet pythons were my dream snake since I was a kid. I love mine but he is pretty grumpy so I don't handle him very often.
To add to the Carpet pythons, a great one is the Centralian/Bredli. They get 6 ft or so, rarely is ever miss a meal and are very curious. Mine almost always comes to the front and watches when we enter the room. They also like varied temps and humidity so they are very easy to keep, but do like to climb so taller enclosure works great.

Got myself a central carpet for my bday last year, couldn't be happier. Really nice display snake considering all my other snakes dont come out till evening, its nice to have 1 who is always perched in his tree all day
We really wanted garters snakes but then found out we had to have a non-native species and had no idea how to get them. So we settled on our awesome and somewhat challenging hognose. ( food challenges from the beginning but he is so easy to handle and can be very amusing to watch). That mandarin rat snake is beyond gorgeous!
I have to thank you. I have had my spotted python (nagini) for almost a year now. And I would have never known about them if I had not seen one of your videos. Also your care guide video inspired her current home. She is healthy and a blast to feed.
Glad you mentioned carpets. I live alone but wanted a larger snake than my bps . After research I decided on a carpet even though they had a reputation for being grumpy. I now have three, a coastal, a jungle and an Irian Jaya. Absolutely wonderful animals! I even trimmed shrubs in my back yard so they can climb safely. My jungle does have wobble maybe caused by dad being jag. Something they forgot to tell me and I didn’t think to ask. I vote carpets for the win!🐍
2:40 There's even the Centralian Carpet (i.e. Bredli) Python if you want a low humidity, desert species. Big (almost as big as the coastal), uniquely colored and very placid once they get past a certain size (as they have no natural predators as adults). I have a nine foot male (in this species the males may get bigger than females) and he's a gem.

Dumeril's boas are awesome! They would be my first pick for people wanting a snake, and I have recommended them many times over ball pythons and the like. I need one in my collection again.. miss them dearly. That goes for really any of the Madagascar snake species, they seem to all be calm, handleable, and easy to take care of. If I can ever find a Madagascar Ground Boa, I am for sure jumping on it! I should have over 10 years ago when I had the chance, but missed out on it... I have eight beautiful ball pythons. I got my first ball python five years ago from BHB reptiles. I bought my first boa at Animalcon U.S.A 2023. I look forward for her to reach adulthood.
Womas and Pygmy Pythons are on my dream list. I've also been considering setting up a garter colony in a few years once my hognoses are mature and I know for sure if I'm up for breeding.
A woma python is definitely a dream species of mine!! Once I get more experienced with snake keeping. I'm going to an Expo this weekend to hopefully find my first snake! 😊 Looking at either a rosy boa or children's python
My question about rear fanged snakes. If you’re allergic to insect stings and bites are you more likely to have a bad reaction to rear fanged snakes bites? That’s my only concern with those breeds since I react badly to ones from insects.
Wanna hear a secret? Bearded dragons are "technically" venomous as well. Womas for the win! They're high up on my wish list to work with. And yes, Antaresia are pretty cool. We have Stimpsons and anthills. Honestly im really loving the anthills, and hoping to breed them in the future. Honorable mention as well, African House Snakes. Pretty sure they're going to be a big "great for everyone" snake blowing up the hobby in the next year or 2.
When I was a kid in summer camp, one of the boys caught a garter snake. The boys promised their deserts for the next week if one of the girls would kiss the snake. So she’s on large adult mice probably about the time to move to jumbos . Can’t get her back to rats so Maybe do a vid about how to get a snake back on a particular food item or if like a ball python who goes off food how to get them back on food entirely. Anywho great vids can’t wait for the next one.

If anyone is thinking of getting a juvenile jungle carpet python, get the snake onto rats asap. They can become "mousers" - mine is - and they just won't take rats, which means feeding several mice at each feeding.
i house three blotched blue tongue lizards in one indoor enclosure. two of them were born in captivity and have shared their whole life (even before i got them) and the third i've had with them for a year, ive had the first two for just under 3 years and the third just over a year and never had any issues. but recently i have been reading up on shared housing and EVERYTHING says not to do it.. but i don't really have room to seperate them, is it irresponsible of me to continue keeping them together? should i work out how to split them up? the last thing i want is for them to be unsafe... again, i haven't had any issues yet thanks for the video! and ik this didnt really relate to the video.. sorry lol

Black milk snakes are awesome colors change into adulthood they have a really beautiful iridescence. Never bite, or musk, they get a decent size and everyone doesn’t have one. Wicked cool snakes.
No Rosies on this list?! Rosy boas are so awesome and I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of Anza Borregos or Harquahalas!
Its funny you mention the Mandarin rat snake, as one popped up on Kijiji near me for a lil pocket change of 1100$canadian so like 16.43$ USD!
Great Vid! On an unrelated note, did anyone see the solar eclipse today?
Hey man I’ve been watching your videos about geckos lately and was wondering if you could do a video about gargoyle gecko care, I was thinking of getting a crested but after seeing your video about how the gargoyle gecko is more fun to watch hunt I wanted to get some more knowledge on it
Spotted pythons are hreat. I have one. Love it. Very active for a nocturnal snake. As soon as the light is off he is out 😊
If anyone is thinking of getting a juvenile jungle carpet python, get the snake onto rats asap. They can become "mousers" - mine is - and they just won't take rats, which means feeding several mice at each feeding.
Would love to have a Mand rat snake. But oh mah lawd is them expensive
absolutely!
Black tail cribos are pretty awesome
I agree with #1! It's one on my wishlist but not easy to find sadly! 😕 So probably costs an arm and a leg here!
Appreciate you my man! I really do love learning!
I appreciate that!
Of course brotha! Keep doing what you do, gonna end up making me get a snake now!🤣
i house three blotched blue tongue lizards in one indoor enclosure.
two of them were born in captivity and have shared their whole life (even before i got them) and the third i've had with them for a year, ive had the first two for just under 3 years and the third just over a year and never had any issues.
but recently i have been reading up on shared housing and EVERYTHING says not to do it..
but i don't really have room to seperate them, is it irresponsible of me to continue keeping them together?
should i work out how to split them up? the last thing i want is for them to be unsafe...
again, i haven't had any issues yet
thanks for the video! and ik this didnt really relate to the video.. sorry lol
