Celebrating Navarathri with Navadurga in Navarasas
Day 4 is dedicated to Devi Kushmanda. She personifies the microscopic warm egg - Ku Ushma Anda
Her pregnant womb (Kalasham) filled with red blood (Rudhira) is the elixir of all creation and is regarded as sacred. Such is the importance given to motherhood. And yet, everything that makes motherhood possible - like periods, menstural cycle, women, childbirth - is looked down upon and treated as if its impure. Also, desicions regarding abortion, creation, at what age to have a child; are also taken without the consideration of the mother.
As a 8 month pregnant woman, I realised that these societal judgements are a constant battle for every woman. And hence, I thought "What if Devi Kushmanda is disgusted by this petty thinking?"
