I've been building custom Guitar Speaker Cabinets since 2015. I use ONLY Eminence speakers. The only time I've ever put in anything else is if a customer specifically requested a certain "other brand" speaker. I had a outdoor commercial job for a car wash. The owner only wanted to replace the drivers in speakers that are pre-existing. I ended up buying 30 or 40 Eminence for inch drivers for the job and I couldn't have picked a better speaker. The bill quality was awesome and the sound quality was even better.
Definitely an Eminence fan here. My mains each have a Delta Pro-12A in them and they are sweet for every db of their range. The trick is, using them with enough power to make those rigid surrounds and cones move. They will thump you to your core. These are very powerful, clean, professional drivers. I can't imagine even wearing one out over decades of residential, non-professional use. I would like to see more DIY builds with these. A 3-way with an 8" Eminence woofer would be nice, and would still be a ridiculously potent speaker in a residential setting.

I've been a speaker manufacturer for nineteen years. In my experience the actual performance of Eminence drivers matches their data sheets better than any other manufacturer I have used. Including some that are a LOT more expensive. The N314X Textreme compression driver mentioned in the video is superb, and that little Beta 10CX coaxial is crazy good, not even taking into account its low price.

This is a reply to MAD GRUMPYMAN who asked clarifications on why coaxial speakers with a single component crossover crossing over to a tweeter, sounds good in automobiles. Well the answer has to do with ambient sound and how forgiving our ears are. The most silent a car is going to get, even if you own the Flying Spur is going to be at the bare minimum 56dB and the Rolls Royce Ghost is at 54dB. Whispers are 41dB and quiet means about 28dB. Do also note that the dB scale is logarithmic. Noise introduced by speakers, cables, crossover network components or amplifiers of average build means zilch in automobile audio. Sound stage is insignificant since the speakers are placed all around as in a home theater. If you want to melt the speakers away with impeccable sound stage then it has to be two channel audio amplifier with single voice coil in each speaker(full range driver) so as to do away with crossover network all together which means coaxial speaker drive units. Unfortunately physics and the cilia in our cochlea(audio pressure wave to electric converter in the cochlea of the ear) do not play ball. As a compromise one has to have 2.0 system at the bare minimum with a mid/woofer and tweeter in one speaker box with a cross over network and if one can afford it a 2.1 system crossed over at about 40Hz with a dedicated amplifier for the subwoofer if one listens to classical music or electronic dubstep but then the cost goes into the 30,000 dollar levels for the system. The single electronic component in a cheap car audio cross over network is usually a 2.5, 4 micro-farad bipolar capacitor. It functions to roll of electrical current to the tweeter below about 6000 Hz which is one hell of a compromise because the mid/woofer will likely have cone break up and peaks, above 6000-8000 Hz depending on the cone material. Interference between the speaker drive units in one box will cause peaks and troughs in the output but our ears are very forgiving to change in amplitude as long as it is consistent. I hope you know that humans above the age of 55 can barely hear anything above 12500 Hz anyway. As age advance harshness is the one sound attribute that humans cannot tolerate and all else is forgiven or not even discernible which is why high end valve audio sounds so good. Sound stage is the holy grail for good audio reproduction for older people and which is the most difficult thing to reproduce faithfully with the least number of electrical/electronic components. On a side note do you know that the silencer assembly (from exhaust port to exhaust tip of automobiles is the most difficult thing to design in a naturally aspirated automobile and which is what ricers meddle with first, by changing the endcan and the tube diameter. Similarly the cross-over network is the single most difficult component to design in loudspeakers especially when the aim is minimal crossover components and which is what speaker manufacturers skimp on. For good sound stage you just have to spend through your nose, no two ways about it, even if you have just 4 components in the cross over network. Super high end audio matches not only the drive units but also the speaker pair just like dampers erroneously called shock absorbers come in matched pairs as do tires of a single axle in race cars. Well I am veering off topic. Bye.

I am an Orthodontist by profession but into designing speakers and crossover networks for the past 30 years and designing cross over networks is my passion. Of the lot Peerless manufactures the best drive units when cost is taken into the equation and more importantly they can be matched for phase and frequency with just 4 electronic components, which is difficult in the case of Morel and the rest of the gang. To get parts at 1/3 cost compared to parts express head over to components-center, but I have not factored in shipping costs. Good luck with your build. When designing the cross over network make sure that you spend as much on the cross over network as you would on both drive units of one box. Do not skimp on the cross over network and phase matching if you want a wide sound stage and realism that makes the speakers disappear.

@@Toid Nice sounding, very good quality, those speakers just sound different. Pross no need powerful amp, nice vocal, strong mid. Cons lack of bass, bass hard.. I prefer deeper bass. I changed eminence beta 15a sub to svs sb 1000, because svs is much smaller and goes deeper. Overall beta 15a to my years is better for bass, there is no replacement for displacement . Work well in large rooms. Good price -quality ratio. In those ten tears never thought to replace it..
I made a pair of bookshelves using the kapa10s I think, with prvs Twisters no crossovers, just the protection cap on the Twister! And even my kids love them, don't remember last time that we used my 9.2 setup after those eminence are on top of my klf30s on the living room!
"Good on yer, mate!" for giving attention to sample-to-sample consistency. IMO this is a key to great multichannel imaging, especially in the time domain, yet some prominent disciples of Toole insist that every meaningful speaker measurement can be taken from a single sample. These same folks even listen-test a single speaker and think that some delocalization of its perceived sound source is a virtue. I can't help thinking that would be a predictor of a smeared image when 2 or more channels are in play, annoying for music and fatal for cinema. Keep up the good work!
Really enjoy your videos and always learn something. Wonder if you would do a video on speaker measurements showing people how to produce the graphs as in your video. Measuring bass is the area I struggle with the most. Fine from 200hz -> gated.
Music is something very complex....even more, when we are talking about (speakers)! How many times Have I heard that some woofers sound absolutely terrible....until I proved otherwise! Yes, I did it and I even went beyond whatever I heard from the greatest audio engineers because I knew that something was wrong! So one day I decided to buy a pair of 2 12 inches woofers and to build some speakers based on a pattern that I made that gives an incredibly deep and rich bass! You just can not imagine the face of the people who listened to the results! I showed them that all it takes is a nicely built and tunes cabinet with a port placed at the perfect place! I wish I could tell you more but I just can't give up all that I've been working hard for years and see the credits being taken by someone else!
I think it's funny that Eminence is better quality and the same price or cheaper than Celestion's since Celestion has moved from the U.K. Having said that, Celestions newer speakers seem to have quality even though they seemed to drop it on some of their classics.
In the UK there is better value for money due to shipping but the actual drivers are quite high in quality. I'm not sure vs Precision Devices, Faital Pro and B&C but they are pretty good if you limit them properly. The kappalite bass drivers are very efficient but need a larger than normal box to get the most out of them. I'm using 3 cubic feet or more for a 12 tuned to 40Hz. For the 15 it's 2 x this for the same performance but 3dB more efficient. They even did custom drivers for companies like Barefaced - with performance of the 3012LF and 3012HO rolled into one.
Live in Kentucky, been here all my life, only 46 years, never heard of this brand. Must not be in the car audio market. I remember a company named "Volcano" made here as well. Hold the phone... A man is really named "McNutt"? FML
Funny you should mention... In investigating the feasibility of a high efficiency speaker system Eminence drivers are leading the way in the bass drivers (Beta 15A). If I didn't already have a pair of JBL 075s they would probably be a real contender on that end too. I am glad to hear the quality is there. P.S I used one of their guitar drivers in a project many years ago.
Toid could you point me in the direction of the anatomy of a speaker driver. What would make one manufacturer's 6-inch driver produce a low-frequency response of 40hz while another 6 inch only goes to 50hz as an example?
A speaker is basically a cone on a spring. The firmer the suspension and the lighter the moving mass, the higher the natural vibration of the speaker. A speaker with a lose suspension and heavy cone/voice coil will naturally vibrate at a lower frequency than one with a tight suspension and a light cone/voice coil.
Also the efficiency has much to do with that mass, magnetic field - gap at voice coil and how tight that suspension is so we can find 3” woofers designed to produce lower frequencies than 6” drivers but at much lower effectiveness. We can also find a 6” midrange which is extremely efficient by comparison to a 6” woofer or subwoofer. Another interesting thing to consider is how a speakers individual components sum up if it’s best used in a sealed or ported box or even open baffle where it has no box at all. Many car speakers are essentially geared at infinite or open baffle otherwise they would suffer mechanical damage if the suspension parts were made for a sealed cabinet for example. Blah blah 😆 fun hobby, the sky is the limit for creativity and how much time and money one can spend. Eminence has been pretty old fashioned design wise until most recently, great quality but generally low tech and sometimes unfavorable midrange spikes in the response curve in the pro driver lineup and this is why they can claim a very high efficiency rating. - good for a stage monitor and not a reference system
@@FSXgta Well they also make old drivers. Most of them haven't changed in 20+ years, but given they were pretty decent to begin with, this might not be a bad thing. One of those slow traditional companies. But i didn't find myself desiring them either.
I wanna hear the new Dv-77. I guess they're their new modern metal speakers. Btw, WGS is american too and the Reapers and Retro 30's are pretty badass 👍
LOL. Paper pulp is "special" because it's from old American trees. But Chinese magnets are "just magnets", and "magnets are magnets". I thought you can't get snake oil anymore. Snake oil is just snake oil. But the people selling it are "special".
No magnets come in all different forms and he even mentioned specs. I did find it amusing about the paper pulp comment but that is important also, just ask guitar players who won’t use the Chinese Celestian units and are in favor of the British cones.
Well... Are Eminence speakers made in China? In addition to our Eminence, KY facility, the Eminence Dongguan factory is an integral part of our expansion into the global world of manufacturing. It began as our effort to provide our customers with a respected brand of quality loudspeakers in China.
Yes definitely make some good drivers isn't that what tekton use in their speakers. What would work better in the coaxial driver setup is changing the mount, is it steel or aluminium? I would make the mount out of Birch or mahogany, you can get wooden pulp that you can use in 3D printers have you got access 3D printer, you make it out of that would be good! and inserted epoxy it into a brass tube thread. Cut down a lot of resonance give it a go let me know how you get on. Put a brace as well in the cabinets and with same Blu-Tack so the tweeter magnet is pushing against it
They're getting harder to find, at least those made for guitar amps. Anyone know of a retailer that carries the full line, or at least most of it? Thanks in advance!!
Quite a few. Some off the top of my head would be Faital Pro, Dayton, JBL, PRV, peerless, Eminence and I am sure more that I am not thinking of right now.
They had a fabulous 15 inch 4 OHM 99 DB efficiency Free air Resonance of 16Hz was used as bass speaker in horn section of Speakerlab K. Fantastic but they don’t make it anymore.
@@daviddrake6875 it's sad how company reputations have gone down hill only now Eminence releases the tour grade series. I have the 314t and really like them
Problem is they have a horrible reputation, they have made drivers for hundreds if not thousands of bad sounding speakers. Reminds me of this high end audio place I went to in the 90's, like many they allowed you to trade in your old gear for upgrades and they had a room filled with just Klipsch speakers people returned, the expensive models. One guy was doing that while I was there, he actually downgraded to a NHT superzero surround sound system and said it was vastly superior.
You're right. They could have matched them before being sent out. But the packages weren't previously opened, so I have no reason to believe they were. But you're absolutely right, they could have been.
I don’t think anyone manufactures them in the USA however many are actually designed here; of course you can always use Eminence pro drivers in an automobile but not in a traditional set up so be prepared to modify the automobile to suit.
If you would see what my friend can make in China - your eyes would pop out, SB is piece of junk beside them, even the Satori are nothing special. Let's say you can throw the TB underhung 6.5", you know where. His can do 1" p-p. And not too many companies outside of China have magnetizers to properly magnetize Neodymium. Eminence is OK, too bad they don't make hi-end home drivers.
I know what you mean, ... however Eminence does make a superb 21" LF driver, being utilized in high end systems, and it doesn't get much better than that. It's world class and yet retains that affordability that they're known for. It's the NSW6021-6
nice, as long as the magnets are not made in communist china, I will buy their speakers, as I'm boycotting everything made there, and for many good reasons. we need to bring back our manufacturing, or else china will surpass us as the world superpower, sooner than later, hopefully their economy completely tanks before then, "made in America" must be our main concern when buying anything, their cheap crap is not worth saving a few $$$... thanks for making this video, I didn't know about this brand, and this is what I've been looking for

A magnet is basically a magnet. It obviously needs to meet the specs, which was said. If money is no object then Woofer HDS-P830990 with tweeter DA25TX00-08. Drive units arranged in order of ascending cost.
Bye.
I made pair of speakers 10 years ago. Two way with eminence beta 12lta and super tweeter apt 80 used every day, plus svs sb 1000 for lower bass
Nice! What did you think of them?
Speaker made in the USA means quality assured. Eminence speaker company is an esteemed organisation.
Just down the road from me ! Alot of Kentukians are audiophiles and utube reviewers lol Tekton !
Great break down of their products. I just ordered 2x Kappa 10 Pros.
You won’t regret it..
FML
Ever heard of klh? They make damn good sounding speakers
Sounds great. Out of my price range.
I do care that they're made in America and you just made my decision for my subwoofer project
Are the beta 12a good to make towers similar to what you did, those large towers you made I mean?
Where can I order their parts for example magnet, coils, paper cones and so on
Also Stereo Integrity makes subwoofers in USA
I plan to buy a black mountain very soon for home speaker, it should very good vocal but worries about low frequency.
I was waiting for a video after the video commercial
IDK, its hard to beat celestion alnicos, an EVL12 for modern metal and a Jupiter alnico for vintage tones. Competition is good for us guitarists.
Eminence make for alot of name companies
They really do. I don't think many people know how many OEM products they produce.
@@Toid their lobby wall shows 3 dozen or so companies
Toid could you point me in the direction of the anatomy of a speaker driver. What would make one manufacturer's 6-inch driver produce a low-frequency response of 40hz while another 6 inch only goes to 50hz as an example?
A speaker is basically a cone on a spring. The firmer the suspension and the lighter the moving mass, the higher the natural vibration of the speaker. A speaker with a lose suspension and heavy cone/voice coil will naturally vibrate at a lower frequency than one with a tight suspension and a light cone/voice coil.
@@DJ_Force Thank you.
That LAB12 gets no credit. No one wants the LAB at a shootout.
I love my lab 12s. Probably the best sub I've ever used.
Curious whether Visaton would be so nice and send you some samples.
It seems like Visaton uses old photos ay least on my local store. That kinda puts me off
That would be cool
@@FSXgta Well they also make old drivers. Most of them haven't changed in 20+ years, but given they were pretty decent to begin with, this might not be a bad thing. One of those slow traditional companies.
But i didn't find myself desiring them either.
I wanna hear the new Dv-77. I guess they're their new modern metal speakers. Btw, WGS is american too and the Reapers and Retro 30's are pretty badass 👍
Good to know. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!
@@Toid Yeah man, i got 2 Retro 30's and 2 Reapers. Can't complain.
Why are they all listed as Guitar speakers?
I’m restoring my cabinet SWR Goliath the old eminence are getting upgrade wanna try neo 10s
Learned a few months ago that they are not being made in the U.S. anymore.
Will those 10 inchers you have been sent compromise Beveridge Model 3 Electrostatic Audio Transducer musical instruments?
Put a brace as well in the cabinets and with same Blu-Tack so the tweeter magnet is pushing against it
I have two, 15inch Kappa pro LFA, pls suggest enclosure (vented) size with tweeter....
They're getting harder to find, at least those made for guitar amps. Anyone know of a retailer that carries the full line, or at least most of it?
Thanks in advance!!
So what other pro drivers have you tested?
Quite a few. Some off the top of my head would be Faital Pro, Dayton, JBL, PRV, peerless, Eminence and I am sure more that I am not thinking of right now.
B&c blows Eminence out of the water with quality but don't forget radian
They had a fabulous 15 inch 4 OHM 99 DB efficiency Free air Resonance of 16Hz was used as bass speaker in horn section of Speakerlab K. Fantastic but they don’t make it anymore.
@@daviddrake6875 it's sad how company reputations have gone down hill only now Eminence releases the tour grade series. I have the 314t and really like them
It’s true I have seen Open enthusiast swear by the eminence Alpha 15
I love there horns
Problem is they have a horrible reputation, they have made drivers for hundreds if not thousands of bad sounding speakers. Reminds me of this high end audio place I went to in the 90's, like many they allowed you to trade in your old gear for upgrades and they had a room filled with just Klipsch speakers people returned, the expensive models. One guy was doing that while I was there, he actually downgraded to a NHT superzero surround sound system and said it was vastly superior.
Nick, What driver was it they sent you?
Beta 10cx. He said it in the video
Dave they sent me the Eminence Beta 10cx bit.ly/beta10cx and the F110M compression driver bit.ly/2HpGbCc
Hey bro ever heard of these Vintage Omega AP Speakers 3 Way USA Model 150 ?
I have absolutely nothing against Eminence. But who said those two drivers are not a matched pair from the same batch?
You're right. They could have matched them before being sent out. But the packages weren't previously opened, so I have no reason to believe they were. But you're absolutely right, they could have been.
I would in the least presume they are from the same batch or production run
Anybody here know where i can find good quality made in usa car speakers? Thanks!
I don’t think anyone manufactures them in the USA however many are actually designed here; of course you can always use Eminence pro drivers in an automobile but not in a traditional set up so be prepared to modify the automobile to suit.
Did you build the surrounds?
Some American made speakers are made in Canada.
Your tone of voice gave it all away....
How much did they pay you?
I like svs subs
Am I watching a youtube video or am I reading a brochure given to me by Eminence Speakers?
If you would see what my friend can make in China - your eyes would pop out, SB is piece of junk beside them, even the Satori are nothing special. Let's say you can throw the TB underhung 6.5", you know where. His can do 1" p-p. And not too many companies outside of China have magnetizers to properly magnetize Neodymium.
Eminence is OK, too bad they don't make hi-end home drivers.
There are some really good manufacturers in China. Like I said, China gets a bad name but that doesn't mean that all of them are bad.
I know what you mean, ... however Eminence does make a superb 21" LF driver, being utilized in high end systems, and it doesn't get much better than that. It's world class and yet retains that affordability that they're known for.
It's the NSW6021-6
Lost me at paper cones.. lol
nice, as long as the magnets are not made in communist china, I will buy their speakers, as I'm boycotting everything made there, and for many good reasons. we need to bring back our manufacturing, or else china will surpass us as the world superpower, sooner than later, hopefully their economy completely tanks before then, "made in America" must be our main concern when buying anything, their cheap crap is not worth saving a few $$$... thanks for making this video, I didn't know about this brand, and this is what I've been looking for
I wound if see professional dj sperker made for like scoop cabi an other .
Paid ad?
did they pay you to make this video?
No
@@Toid weird. It feels a lot like an ad. Feels like you're reading from their website, and you're using b roll footage of their factory.
@@Jakeman90210 yeah, it definitely isn't my best video. I had a lot of people claim that it came across as an advertisement. After this video I actually stopped doing videos like this. Instead I invite someone from the company on and let them talk about their products. I definitely don't want you guys feel like I'm trying to sell you on a brand. I guess it partially came across that way, because I really do like Eminence a lot. I really do appreciate the input from you guys. It definitely helps get videos out that you guys appreciate.
'murica isn't a selling point for me.
Too bad that shitty hat isn't US made. #yanks4life!!!
But past the hat, great review brother. I've been eyeballing their drivers for a minute and may run them if I ever do commit to a home theater build.
@@crazyndn49 funny story. I was headed to a Red Sox game in Fenway on the train. Surrounded by Red Sox fans and I looked at one of the kids standing there. Oh more bullshit - how a magnet is charged is everything - and MATURE AMERICAN TREES?
Dude get out of here lol.
Stopped watching after that.
A magnet is basically a magnet. It obviously needs to meet the specs, which was said. But you're not going to get a magnet from China and a magnet from America that are going to make the speaker sound any different. And yes, eminence uses mature American trees in their paper cones. Most manufacturers do not use mature trees which does make a difference.
