Corneliu M. Popescu ( 1958 -1977) is considered to be the best English translator of Eminescu's poems. He set a standard in poetry translation that continues to be valid even today, therefore the Prize for Poetry in Translation (awarded by the Poetry Society UK) carries his name. Unfortunately, Corneliu M. Popescu died at the age of 19, in the earthquake that took place in March 1977, in Romania.

este cea mai emotionala interpretare pe care am auzit-o...as putea s-o aud la nesfirsit, minunata voce.
Dupa ce canti asa ceva nu cred ca te poti abtine sa nu versi macar o lacrima...A plecat asa de repede dintre noi, dar a lasat atat de multe...Cel putin sentimentul de iubire...care acum s-a cam sters...
Nici nu mai stii ce sa elogiezi mai intai:versurile,muzica, istoria, interpretarea...toate sunt de apreciat
Ne simtim mandri ca avem o romanca atat de talentata! Bravo.

frumos realizata melodia, cuprinde toata suferinta, si dragostea ce o avea Eminescu, ce vroia sa o transmita Einescu,......
doamne.....va multumesc din suflet!!!!nu sunt o persoana emotiva chiar deloc...dar...sunt profund impresionat de vocea d-voastra!!bv,multe succese in continuare!!!

Voce de lacrima cristalina si sentiment de dulce durere. Sa ne traesti ,draga Maria Raducanu.
Sunt oameni carora le place cultura, Vor intelege ca nu e vorba nici de Eminescu si nici de o interpretare. Nu e de lacrimi nici de cerinta nici de ce "se crede" a fi istorie. E muzica....e frumoasa....si ascultam piesa...nu suntem la teste de istorie. In general nu trebuie sa fim la teste....Nu vom reprezenta Romania pentru ca habar nu are nimeni ce mai e de fapt. Insa ce se poate face....se poate iubi se poate intelege se poate depasi prin cultura si prin mostenire ceea ce unii mai credem. Ridicati-va mai sus decat sunteti...credeti...insa nu jigniti...

@dampcloth Well..yes the woman in this poem it's the woman that he can't have or love and the poet Mihai Eminescu writes down his thoughts in a lonely way..the romantic scheme includes only past or future tense not the present one so it's kinda hard to understand the true meaning or the feeling itself that Eminescu it's trying to express it through his poems in another language. I think in french translation it's easier to identify these particularities, he had many poems in french also.

it's a very big difference between romanian and english and...you just can't find the words.. exact meanings and especially the rhyme.. but this is the true difference of a language...but then you can change a bit the meaning of a verse to convert the poem for one language..the thing is that you will change it not translate it...

@MegaBillX Yeah, this isn't a direct translation. The last stanza has no direct reference to God in Romanian. The way I understand it it's more as if she fell from grace because she lost her virginity. So she lost her status as deity because of it. In this English translation it sounds Christian, while in Romanian is rather pagan. She was the God(ess) until she lost her purity and innocence. Or am I way out of line?
Nu pot sa inteleg persoanele care au dat dizlike....cred ca sunt morti...
Oi muri si eu in nestiinta, dar cel putin nu sint grosolan si nu-mi permit sa dau cu glod in Eminescu. Iti mai zic ceva. M-am indragostit in Eminescu mult inainte ca sa aud toate comentariile idolatrizatoare cu referinta la el. Nu il divinizez, nu am obsesia cultului personalitatii, imi place poezia sa pentru ca imi trezeste sentimente profunde. Atit. Daca nu-ti place Eminescu nu il citesti si gata. Faptul ca stai in continuu, incercind sa-ti justifici ura fata de el demonstreaza ca ai probleme.
@ Bade...nu pt poezii e apreciat Eminescu ;)....cauta si afla care a fost adevaratul sau rol in cultura natiunii noastre. Indata ce vei afla, vei intelege si versurile/ proza sa (iti dau un pont, e vb de daci)
da, ce sa-i faci, oamenii care mai citesc cat de cat nu se lasa impresionati de puerilisme ridicole. c'est la vie.
Tocmai de-asta imi place Maria Raducanu: pentru ca are o interpretare original, sincera, care ma face sa rezonez cu versurile alea. Dar sa fim intelesi: meritul e al Mariei si prea putin al lui Eminescu.
Oare nu e chiar romanca aceasta dna Maria Raducanu? Pentru un poet roman... nu prea ma incanta 'straina' pronuntie... Altfel, sensibila interpretare.
Domnisoara, ti-ar fi cu mult mai bine, doar sa te poti bucura de o asemenea "Sensibila interpretare"" ... Atat !

Da si inca ceva, nu stiu in ce mediu obisnuesti sa te afli, dar in lumea civilizata contra-argumentele obisnuesc sa tina de subiect si nu de disputant. Drept un cadou de plecare iti propun sa studiezi ce-i aia piramida lui Graham. S-ar putea sa fii mai convingator in disputele ulterioare.
Imi pare rau de tine. Poti sa-ti expui gindurile fara a jigni pe nimeni, or nimeni din cei care ti-au raspuns nu au apelat la aprecieri injositoare. Pe de alta parte tu iti permiti nu doar sa demonstrezi cinismul si lipsa de cultura generala (in acest sens sa ma crezi pe cuvint, lecturile mele nu iti stau nici in orizontul departat) dar si lipsa de educatie. Te simti tare fiind neconformist? Stai asa ca aroganta o sa-ti treaca cu virsta. Eu nu mai am chef sa umplu comentariile cu gunoi. bafta
nu la toate, doar la cretinisme evidente. normal ca sunt peste eminescu, traiesc in secolul XXI, e de ajuns sa ai 8 clase ca sa fii peste eminescu. tu ai terminat ciclul primar?
Te caci pe tine cu cuvinte mari, dar nu spui nimic. esti doar o victima a prejudecatilor si snobismului.
Lasa-ma sa-ti dau un sfat, e gratuit: doar pentru ca un autor scrie o poezie genila sau mai multe, nu inseamna ca daca trage o basina automat e parfum. Ai creierul spalat amice daca ajungi sa crezi asta.
Aia cu obscuritatea e penibila rau venita de la alt individ care va trai la fel de obscur. Diferenta este ca eu nu sunt atat de dobiitoc incat sa fac afirmatii care mi se aplica si mie.
4. Invitatia de a-mi arata cartile a fost delicioasa. Numai un individ care le cumpara la metru ar putea spune asa ceva, sper ca esti constient. E de ajuns sa vad usor, usor ce ai in cap.
5. Eu nu cred ca Eminescu e un scriitor slab, neimportant, etc. Tot ceea ce spun este doar ca i s-a cladit un soclu mult prea mare, ca nu are si nu poate avea relevanta mare pentru prezent si ca anumite poezioare chiar sunt puerile si de cacat, recte idiotenia asta cu plopii. Noroc cu Maria.
Pare-se ca ar fi dontr-o caldura, una chiar mare cica. De-ale lui ilece. Ceea ce nu intelegi tu insa este ca nu sunt absolut deloc obosit de cultura si in niciun caz nu sunt un nihilist (nu ca nu i-as respecta pe dumnealor). Doar ca cultura, in opiniunea mea, trebuie sa-ti calce spiritul in picioare, nu sa-ti provoace diabet telenovelistic.Daca eminescu e cultura pentru tine, vai de capul tau. Il accept ca protocultura cel mult. Tataita, lumea a evoluat. Mileniul III iti spune ceva?
