As someone with extreme anxiety and emetophobia, this was such a healing podcast. Thank you for having her on and giving her the space to share her struggles.
The phobia that Anna talks about (fear of vomiting) is called emetophobia and I struggle with it. I am so glad she talked about it because I know that eventually, it will be past me!
anna is so incredibly articulate when talking and expressing about her mental health it's amazing. it's so encouraging to see her self-awareness and insights to this part of herself, and to see how willingly she is able to talk about it. I LOVE HER SO SO MUCH THANK YOU FOR THIS !!!
Struggled for over a decade with Emetophobia. Started at age 12. If I heard that someone had the stomach bug, I would be afraid to eat incase I would get sick, I developed OCD with handwashing, I was afraid to eat out (if they didn’t cook foods safely), didn’t want to do a career where people could throw up, didn’t want to have kids, etc. It’s such a debilitating phobia. Thankfully, I’m SO much better. I became a registered nurse (and would be around a lot of vomiting), have a child, etc :)
How did you get past this??? I’m in the exact same spot. Literally down to the exact words you said and it’s so hard because I’m only 17 and I’m already planning an isolated life so I won’t get sick, and not having kids so they won’t get me sick, and not following my dream of becoming a pediatrician or working in hospitals with kids because they could get me sick. It’s so debilitating and I completely understand what you went through.
@ evidence based research has shown that exposure therapy is best for it. What I did was work in dietary in the hospital. So I had some interaction with patients (bringing them their food/picking it up).. so being in an environment where I couldn’t control anything. And one day I woke up knowing I wanted to be a nurse and signed up for nursing school. I was able to compartmentalize things. And just because someone throws up doesn’t mean that I’m going to get sick. With your age, I would suggest therapy. Your brain is so malleable !! I wish I would have when I was your age. I think it would have helped me in early college when my emets controlled my life (and had difficulty pay attention in class due to the anxiety).
Omg, you guys made me realize the origin of my anxiety and traumas like literally just hearing your experiencies made me remember something. Thank you for sharing your experiencies it was really helpful to me.
Thank you Anna for opening up about your experience with emetophobia. I've made videos about it for over a decade and run a website about it but having celebrities speak about it really helps us build awareness and create a sense of understanding and connection. I applaud your vulnerability and honesty! It's a phobia that is a lot more common than people realize and a lot more debilitating than people realize.
Anna, thanks for being so open and this was such refreshing content to listen to. I really loved the perspective you have when it comes to handling and viewing anxiety. This has made me adjust my mindset on how to view anxiety.
My emetophobia started at 7 because I got food poisoning from McDonald’s. It is so debilitating and hard to explain. Hearing her story really provides me solace that I am not alone
Thankyou so much for having Anna on the podcast this helped me so much I relate soooo much to her and I’m soooo glad I’m not alone this has made me feel so much better
I have emetophobia too. It used to give me panic attacks. I'm so glad there's more people out there who know what it's like, it can be a debilitating phobia.
I am relating to Anna so much 😅 I was the exact same way. I was totally fine in kindergarten, then when I got into first grade I developed severe separation anxiety that has now lasted into my adulthood. It just switched from my parents to my husband 🤣😅 10:44
taylor when she was explaining how she is a optimistic pessimist I had to pause and literally said out loud omg that is so self aware. Not even a min later u say the EXACT thing to her. Then i remembered you’re an Aquarius to✊🏼
OMG YESSS!!!! I hope to see her or any of the others on pods too! They’re killing it! Just binged season 2 and just wowww. Also #teamdae , though I do love Min Ho too. He’s just not Dae One
glad for the honesty and yea the college experience must've been different. Such a star doing both and trying to have a healthier mental health talk / mindset.
Well explained jobs are tough I used to feel that way as well why do I not feel like im having a good time or connecting with people or making any impact or like this is what I wanted as a kid and now I feel un fufilled ect. But there will always be some challenges its normal
I think she’s doing really well for how much she’s doing and has done so far in life. I know it’s not easy everyday and you don’t always feel 100% but we think you’re doing great and we’re proud to be your fans! 🫶🏼🫶🏼 Never feel like you always have to be perfect or not be freaking out, you’re just a person too
They are definitely the exception and not the rule lol. My siblings and I were at each others throats, loved each other for sure but it took some years before we were actual friends at home

the analogy about going to the doctor and the part abt how “it’s not your fault that this is harder for you” genuinely made me cry

Was not expecting to see Anna on the podcast, but I love that she is today’s guest. One of my favorite actresses of the last several years. 💙
Anna Cathcart's laugh and smile is so beautiful, just like her personality. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen, and I love it!"
