My maternal grandfather was born in 1868. His daughter-in-law was born in the Dakota Territory. They were children of Swedish immigrants. My dad's mother was born in the same territory. Their history is more inline with this movie as they English (before the Union of the Crowns) colonialist in the Carolina Colony. They migrated to the Appalachia and then to the Ohio area and then finally settled in Iowa where the bulk of my family are today. So this movie really brings home my family's history.
I was 12 when this incredible Movie came to our "Cinerama" Theater and then we could sit in the Theater all day and watch the same film 10 times, and we did . it left such an impression on me all of my life, and thankfully Streaming just about any Movie suits me just fine!!
It was Cinerama. Three cameras synchronized projecting on three movie screens, so you were literally surrounded by the action. Newman's music was magnificent, as it had to be to complement that extravaganza movie.
I seen the movie How the West was won at the Atco Drive In on U.S.30(White Horse Pike) in Atco, New Jersey on Monday night, July 6, 1964. It was a great movie, great cast, it’s one of my all time favorite movies. The movies back then in the 1960’s are quality. The actors, actresses didn’t get it easy, they all had to work very hard compared to the garbage that is made today.
iwas 9 years old sawit in the Cinerama screen the music and the amazing actors still watching it today but its not the same rip all the actorsand muscicansthat performedin the film....bless you
For to proof what "Experts" are for the Oscars responsible: In 1964 there were the Movies Cleopatra How the West was won 55 Days at Peking And the big winner was...Tom Jones, a british comedy And finally: Cleopatra - A Cinema Classic How the West was won - A Hollywood Western Classic 55 Days at Peking - A Monumental Cinema Classic Tom Jones - forgotten
Yes. She passed one day after her daughter by broken heart. Debbie Reyonolds most famous movie was Singing in the rain with Gene Kelly. My beloved Dad was a big Western Fan and passes away this March, my big Brothers favoured Movie was Singing in the Rain and he died at the age of 46. So Debbie Reynolds is (unwillingly) a sad piece of my own past.
today 2021 jan.21,,listening to this artpiece is about to looking into an reflection of the mess of today America. where's the justice, honor, braveness and dignity of the America people.
Very sturring soundtrack-of course, a movie like this could never be made by the woke regime we live under..genocide, murders of native Americans, patriotism ("Shenandoah", "Battle Hymn of the Republic"); it is horrible!
Glorious music by Alfred Newman
I remember going to the theater and watching this on three screens together creating this giant screen 📺
Fantastic movie. Great actors. They just don't make movies like this anymore. The score is the greatest.
James Stewart

Listening to this phenomenal score one rekindles his love of God and Country.. USA .....FOREVER....DAMN IT !
It was my favorite movie of all time. It makes me proud of my pioneer ancestors and what they had to go through . It should make every American proud.

I'll bet the native Americans who were killed and whose lands were stolen weren't feeling proud about the white settlers
Truly one of the great American movies!

She was one of the Best Actress’s of the Twentieth Century.
She was Debbie Reynolds before she was ever Princess Lei’s mother. 😅
