  • Jay's Sandbar Food Boat was on the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway Sunday when it started to sink.

    I'm sure someone has video of the boat which caused this.Hope they come forward so the police can file charges and the owner can hold him accountable in court.

    The driver of the boat causing the huge wake is responsible for any damage caused by his wake.
    It is not just a civil matter but criminal as well!
    I hope he/she is found!

      The food boat wasn't built that well, if you look at the bottom of the pontoon you can see the bottom wasn't very well secured. Not to mention a few videos showing the food boat in transit you can see the boat was on a lean and the water line was way too close to the deck. If he does sue the judge will through it out as the bat wasn't sea worthy

    No wake is very important for reasons like this guys. Yes it looked like a floating dump but it’s like speeding in a school zone, those waves travel fast and hard still

      that stretch of water is clearly marked as a ' NO wake zone' anyone who has their boaters license must understand and respect that, it translates roughly to a licensed driver driving down the sidewalk, rules say you cant do that.

    I spent a week at my family’s intercostal waterway home in Florida. Most boaters were fine but there was certainly no shortage of knuckleheads and I mean complete morons. I think I saw that food boat go by one day. The owner has a great attitude and his priorities in the right place. Much respect. I wish him the best.

    I hope they get an engineer to volunteer their help so they don't have a weak substructure and poor ballasting next time.
    (Probably why it was "uninsurable".)

    Witness stated she heard a "Pop" and the "outrigger" "started floating away." Marine Engineers might question the stability of the "Kitchen" vessel?

    Did anyone else notice the extra Blue 55 Gallon drums strapped under the floor structure between the 2 Pontoons ? I'm glad no one was hurt but it was overloaded hence why they added flotation! It was listing in the photo prior to it capsizing..

    That boat was one wave away from the pontoon snapping off and sinking. By the looks of it it needed some attention a long time ago.

    that boat was rusted im sure that bolt snapped cause wholes things rolls side way and sinked
    and yes wave put too much stressing on bolt cause it snap plus it already old and rusted it never pull out of water for safety inspection check that reason already sinked

    Sorry but it looked like a homebuilt floating pile . It was obviously unseaworthy a properly designed vessel has "righting motion " and should be able to withstand a large wake without turning turtle .

    You've got to pay attention for a large wakes especially in Florida film them because a few minutes later the boat is gone and the wake is hitting you and they are responsible for the damage but you must have proof

    It was only a matter of time til that thing was gonna break...whether it was a big wake today or a small wake 3 weeks fr now. That thing was not of sound construction. Luğ ugh it ccky nobody was hurt. Imho

    A Man of good sense. Maybe not such a good boat builder. Length to Beam standard is 3:1 . But your boat was Pontoon. Most weight above the waterline. More ballast below waterline to give some foundation. Or, be tied to pier. Version 2.0 will correct everything but a moron running too fast in a moorage/ramp zone. Anything faster than idle should get him/her a ticket and USCG recertification. And pay damages.
