My Dad who is also a Cuyonon got teary-eyed watching this video. His teacher was Tia Maria who taught at Puerto Princessa Primary School during the early '50s. We are from the Fernandez-Rodriguez clan. Thanks for sharing!
I feel inner peace whilst listening to the sisters (I have yet to understand the lyrics). I hope to go to Puerto early next year to personally thank Jane and the sister.
This was recorded live at a memorial service long before the movie 'Ploning'. One of the singers, Jane, is the mother of the girls who sang the theme song for the movie.
Hello to Ester! You were my Tagalog teacher in the summer of 1965 at San Jose State (Peace Corps Philippines XIV). The song is indeed beautifully sung. Maraming salamat to whomever uploaded this video.
matama pang matitinlong kanta ang palawan, kung me magaturo andan sa mga estudyante ang mga kanta nga parehas ang kundya mas matinlo.. nice song and the singers (the sisters) are great..
Cuyo is one of the earliest Spanish settlements in the Philippines and is considered by many as the heart and soul of Palawan. It was the capital of Palawan until just before World War II when Puerto Princesa was designated as capital of the province. WWII did not come to Cuyo because the Japanese considered it too small hide any guerrillas. There are many islands in the Cuyo group, Do not visit Cuyo if on a tight schedule; weather is unpredictable and sea travel unpredictable.

This is just endearing... so nostalgic of my homeland and all the good things in it.
