Asvine seems like a hidden gem for most fountain pen fans. I just received another P20 piston filler in Galaxy blue with an EF nib and it is terrific. They are a great value. I’m convinced that wherever factory in China that makes Asvine is also producing Narwhal/Nahvalur.
I wish I knew about Asvine before I bought my Nahvalur pens because while I like their look and feel, the nibs themselves have been awful! I'm going to replace the stock nibs, I'm not confident enough yet to try smoothing with micro mesh/mylar.
Asvine pens have really stepped up their game lately! And this one looks really good as well. Yep, I'll probably go for the frosted blue one, because I am just a sucker for blue.
That blue looks great. 👍🏼
@@JG3Reviews I like the frosted black one it kinda reminds me of one of the parker pens idk i forgot what it was called
I hope they come out with more color options, I would pick up a smoked version in a heartbeat
Hi James, I finally got around to getting this pen to do pen and ink artwork. I inked it up with Noodler’s Heart of Darkness and took it for a test drive. I haven’t done much with it other than to play. But it writes very well and reverse writing with it is fantastic. I got mine in clear with an EF nib. So far, no complaints from me. It’s a great pen.
Thank you for reminding me of this pen. It's on my wishlist and I should go ahead and get it. I'm very partial to the smokey, black version. ❤️👍
Go for it. I have the matte black model in EF and it has become my my favorite. The matte finish feels tremendous in hand, almost a soft feeling.
❤️👍
Thank you for another splendid review! I don't have any Asvines yet, but I am keeping an eye on them for when I next have a little cash
Thanks! So far they are proving to be solid pens.
Just got one today! My very first vac-filler & so far... I'm in love!
I got the frosted grey & inked it with Waterman Mysterious Blue... Love them together!
Always nice to see your reviews! I didn't think I'd like brown pens until I got one. I wanted a broad nib in an Opus 88 and I wanted it to be visually identifiable at a glance. Brown was the only offering in broad that contrasted other pens. I figured an ugly pen was fitting penance for my years of scribbling with cheap stick pens. As it turned out, I liked the color.
Atonement is so difficult to achieve. I wanted a hair shirt. I got a delightful pen.
I need to check out Asvine, too. Have a great day, JG!
Ha! Indeed it is. I haven’t yet ventured into Opus pens, but it’s probably just a matter of time.
Great review JG, I bought the frosted blue, beautiful !!!!
Good choice!
Thanks for the review. This is a nice looking pen that I think I will enjoy using!
Thank you for this very good and informative video. Your handwriting is very beautiful. Asvine are definitely worth the money. The workmanship is good to very good. The writing properties are fantastic with the nibs.
My pleasure!
Just got their Matte Black Skeleton demonstrator. Works great and the nib is much smoother than some of my $100+ pens, almost to a fault. Great Job and good review, Ill be looking into this one. Especially since I'm a sucker for Amber.
I just got this pen in the transparent Teal color in Medium. It just gorgeous and writes like a dream. One of my better pen purchases
I just received a teal version and will do share that on the channel soon. I looks good, and this one has a nib size from Asvine I haven't written with before (EF).
Thanks James... Great review as always! Have a Happy Easter!
Thanks, you too!
Nice design for the end of the year buy list. 😁
Great review as always! I've had this pen in blue for about a month now and it really is quite a good writer. I agree, these absolutely should come with a wrench. However, at this price, that is not a deal breaker. For anyone considering this pen, I don't think you will be disappointed.
The Narwhal wrench fits Asvine. It was a tight fit, but I opened it up a bit and it works great.
I haven't had any problems with this pen being slippery. The section is not frosted like the rest of the pen, but I don't find the barrel or cap particularly slippery, either. I don't have this exact unfrosted version to compare it to, but if the resin is similar to the Pilot Custom 823 it may be a touch more. For me, I don't find it to affect writing at all. Whichever version you decide on, I feel you get quite a bit for what you pay.
They're DIRT cheap in price.
1:50 the absolute same reason why I went on with the amebr instead of the blue. If someday they come up with that blue with silver accents I'll definitely get it. It's a lovely pen!
This pen was so good I bought two more immediately!
I got the same color for my pen. All the Asvine pens I own, all have performed well. I really like the ease of cleaning and maintenance. Mine does not fill completely but it does hold a good amount of ink. The nib is very smooth and writes right out of the box.
Do you have the P20 model, their piston filler? It is also exceptional, especially for the price.
Great review, James..
Have a great Easter.
Happy Easter, Paul! Yes, I have the P20 and it’s medium nib is just excellent, too.
Hey JG! Great review. Nice pen. Strange name...Asvine??
Great review. If you could choose only 1 pen between the Asvine v126 and the Wing Sung 699 vac, what would it be? Maybe a "show down" style video would be fun. Thanks!
I was wondering the same thing
So far I’d lean Asvine. Price is almost the same, but it feels better made, the nib is a higher quality grind, and it’s materials seem higher quality. Just a notch above, I think.
@@JG3Reviews Excellent, thanks for weighing in on that.
Hello! I am si conflicted between this one and the wing sung 699 vac filler. In terms on build quality and performance which one would you say is better (if there’s any difference). Cause the wing sung brown looks more like the pilot custom 823 but yeah, I don’t want to get a fragile pen or something like that. Thanks!
I'm just struggling to decide which I get first between the P20 or V126. I love how the V126 posts, but the P20 design is so nice.
Also, I have a bottle of Golden Brown. I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me.
Have a blue one sitting in a cart wondering if I should go for it. :)
Good review, Thank you. You don't mention if there is a secondary reservoir or not, or a way to protect from nib creep or worse. One of the issues with vacs is that they rarely fill up completely. The constant presence of a large air bubble tends to push the ink out into caps and fingers. The protective sealing mechanism is, I think, a necessity.
Oops! Good catch, I knew something was off! Yes, it does have the safety stop/reservoir. Should have mentioned that.
This is good to know news. I'll stick to Pistons and Cartridges thank you VERY VERY much!!
Ages ago I famously gave away a Parker Vacuum I inherited. D'oh! And seeing this one, and, it's told that they hold more ink. It didn't seem so in this Demo. I hope they have one like their Instructions Pamphlet, that will take the LONG plastic Cartridge. Say what you will, but I've a Waterman Carene which works best with one. I guess I just don't know how to work the converters.
I love mine in EF. Cool looking pen.
Unless I have a strange production batch, the Asvine V169 will post. It's obviously not meant to do so comfortably as it's pretty backweighted and long posted, but it absolutely will.
It didn’t seem to give an especially full amount of ink on filling, although I have seen this behaviour on other vac fillers so maybe it is just par for the course for this type of filling mechanism.
Can someone share a link for the "wrench" the gentleman mentions in the video?
Nice review! Is the end cap supposed to be flimsy when unscrewed?
It'll have some play, just because of the typical movement a vac-filler will have, but I wouldn't think it should be flimsy.
@@JG3Reviews Thank you for the answer! I would better say that it wobbles rather than it's flimsy
I don't know much about fountain pens, but how do these plunger type pens hold up after many years? Does the rubber age and seal become unreliable?
The o-rings can and do wear in time, but they are pretty easy to replace, and Asvine does sell inexpensive replacements.
What is the ink? I didn’t hear it mentioned at all. It looks like Herbin Ambre de Birmanie.
That's weird, I must have had a brain freeze on the ink that day. It's not even in the description, either (I'll add that). It was Noodler's Golden Brown.
About $42.21 with a medium,EF,F nib.
I got mine for $26.99 w/free shipping here (US Amazon, Etsy was the same).
こんにちは ♪ ・Hello, you are very good at using a fountain pen. Even cheap fountain pens look classy.
wonderful.👍
Can the nib unit be swapped with a Jowo 6 or Bock 250?
I haven't tried it, so there's my caveat, but I understand that you should be able to swap either nib.
is it possible to remove and replace the nib from the nib unit?
Yes, it should be. I haven't attempted that, yet, though. Still very satisfied with the stock nib. There was a poster on reddit that swapped a Platinum 3776 nib into his Asvine V126 with success.
@@JG3Reviews cool thanks
I just bought one and it writes terribly. Not sure what I am doing wrong
Can you describe the problem?
