Great video but i also I suggest people to carefully review the current documentation regarding how the power on/off works. There are differences between mute and on/off and how they are used; mute is a fast toggle if you want to silence a track while playing, on/off takes more time to process and load or unload plugins. On/off also influences if plug-ins are loaded when a project is loaded. The on/off is the best way to fully disable a track and save resources. Also the mute can be automated but on/off cannot. This is a tricky topic... Thanks again for the video.

+1 for pointing out the Source Only feature. I had no idea that existed and always used the default Pre-Fader setting. I use Diva a lot, so Source Only will help! Thanks!

Wow, all this time I’ve been powering tracks off that I was no longer using and hiding them, thinking it was turning off all of the plugins and saving CPU. Unfortunate that it doesn’t work that way, but thanks for pointing that out!

No prob radam! If you're using Logic 10.4.5 then you'll be happy to know you can now Option-Click a power button to actually turn off the tracks. No more plugins or instruments sucking up CPU unnecessarily :)

Well explained! Another useful thing about on/off is when using multi timbral (for Kontakt for example), you have the possibility of turning off individual logic tracks. It's helpful because if you use mute button instead, it mutes all of them as a group.

    • @WhyLogicProRules
      @WhyLogicProRules  5 лет назад +1

Love it! Thanks for pointing that out Azzedine :) And with 10.4.5, we can now Option-Click the Power button to finally turn off a track completely. No instruments or plugins sucking up CPU inadvertently anymore :)

@@WhyLogicProRules Hey Chris, do you know if turning on the Power button will take up more time after the 10.4.5. update? I'm asking because freezing many heavy plug-ins can take more than 5 minutes sometimes.

Ok, I really enjoyed your explanation of the Power On/Off.
But.... it's such an IL-Logical name and symbol for it.
The idea is so that you can experiment in the arrange window something out, without needing mute the individual track file. (it is 1 klick and 1 navigating less - so good for workflow).
Power on/off? .... How about instead:
    Test - T or
    One second - O
    Experiment - E
    Wait a second - W
    Perhaps - P
    Brainstorm - B
    This - T

Hi, I've bounced some tracks but I wan't to make changes to the tracks. I can't because the tracks are muted and grey. You mentioned that bouncing should only be used when you're ready to commit to the changes (wish I knew before), but is there any way to undo the bounce and revert the grey tracks to their original way?

what about option-clicking the power button to turn off all plugins on the channel as well? this would save on CPU correct?

Correct! Thanks to 10.4.5, option-clicking the power button now succesfully powers down everything on a channel strip. A recent development, and a much appreciated one.

Absolutely LOVE your vids. Some of the best Logic Tutorials on the web.
QUESTION: I'm working on a fairly intensive project and froze all my tracks other than what I'm recording and have low latency mode on. I'm trying to cut vocals but am getting lots of clicks and pops when I record and the record cycle will often stop, start over on its own or just not record. I/O is at 128...using Apollo Thunderbolt and a solid 2015 MacBook Pro. Any ideas??

Hey, wonderful video here! I have a question .. I recently tried freezing multiple tracks for the first time in hopes that it would help with playback load and found that every few seconds, I get the "Disk Too Slow or System Overload" message. Do you know why after freezing tracks, Logic would actually become slower? Thanks!
