We actually reacted to this movie over a year ago, which is why we look a little different lol. However, our reaction was eventually blocked on RUclips due to copyright. We tried to fix it, but after several attempts we gave up. Fast forward to today and we were finally able to get the video passed copyright free! In the video, Sarah mentions her birthday and oddly enough it'll be next month. Happy early Birthday Sarah! - Eric
Did RUclips even give you clear rules/guidelines on how to fix the copyright issues, or did they just do what they do best and hurt the exposure of your video without telling you why?
Call it a masterpiece when you see one. This is art. And the goosebumps all the time when Bruce Willis sees Nancy in the bar all grown up and realizing that the screwed up. Just so good.
Hands down the best live action adaptation of a comic book. They got the whole feel of the comics (or graphic novel) 100% right, the high contrast black&white, the line delivery, and Mickey Rourke as Marv was way closer than I ever imagined a real person could come to his drawn counterpart. I wish they would make more comic adaptations likes this, keeping the feel and the aesthetic, instead of "just another run of the mill CGI fest" like so much of the MCU stuff is these days.
"In 2018, I was involved in a robbery. I stole your heart." Smooth, man. Reaaaaal smooth. 😂 You could tell Sarah thought it was kinda sweet behind the sardonic "Imma gonna kill you" expression. 😁
The priest in the confessional, who tells Marv(Mickey Rourke) where the farm is, was played by Frank Miller, the original author of Sin City, 300 and the Dark Knight Returns.
Well, good. Because I may have missed it. When I saw "(Reupload)" I was surprised. But a year ago...? Don't remember. Anyway, thanks for the extra work! Here we go! (Maybe again?) :) Happy late and early birthdays, Sarah!
Such a fun, old school adventure flick. I love those hard-boiled detective books from the 30’s & 40’s and Sin City has that film noir/hard-boiled vibe in spades. They really don’t make movies like this very often.
This is Robert Rodriguez’s Pulp Fiction, top 5 for me, Mickey Rourke as Marv is like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or RDJ as Tony Stark, Mickey’s performance was incredible, easily the best story in this movie.
REALLY THIS WAS DIRECTED BY Quentin Tarantino BEST "BRO OVER HOS" BUDDY Robert Rodriguez AND PLUS there a different between "superhero movies and comic book movies" because some comic book films have different Genres (TIMECOP, SIN CITY, RED, ETC..........
The Director's Guild fined Rodrigues for having two directors on a picture. So he got Tarantino to direct a scene too (and paid him $1! This is the scene in the care where Clive Owen is arguing with the dead Jackie and the scene has an orange hue.) Tarantino was on set as they were shooting the scene with Miho. "Are those my samurai swords ?" Robert asks ? Tarantino had stolen his Hanso swords (see Kill Bill) for the movie. Rodrigues courted Frank Miller for years and finally got him to come watch a "demo" of what the movie would look like. During the scene Miller says "no... he wouldn't act like that" to which Rodrigues told Miller "don't tell me... tell THEM !" and got him to direct the actors. This was the first scene that appears in the movie.
I suggested seeing this film in the cinema as a first date when it came out - The girl I had asked out said she wasn't sure about it and we went to see something else. When I eventually did see the movie I realised - given the violence and gore - that it maybe wouldn't have been an ideal choice for a 1st date, so just as well she dissuaded me!
Greetings from Austin! Enjoyed your reaction to this!! It was all filmed in Austin, home of director Robert Rodriguez. Yes, lots of CGI.... Again, great reaction!
Happy early Birthday Sarah!! As a note, the scene with Josh Hartnet at the beginning was actually shot as test footage for Robert Rodregez and he loved it so much that he kept it and finished it at the end of the movie.
Just stopped by to leave a like and a comment to help support the channel. Some of the content in this movie hits too close to home for me to watch. I just can't do it. But I'll be here for whatever comes next. I hope you're both having a great day and that your weekend is equally fabulous! ✌🤓
19:57 - When Dwight and the ladies of Old Town trap the gang in the narrow alleyway...the text from the original graphic novel reads "I'm outnumbered. Out gunned. But the alley is crooked. Dark. And very, very narrow. Funneled into it, they get in each other's way. They can't surround me. Their numbers don't count for so much. Sometimes you can beat the odds - with a careful choice of where to fight." Frank Miller could easily be describing the premise of "300".
Marv was the biggest question mark for if this movie was going to work. Frank Miller didn't think they could find Marv. When Miller met Mickey Rourke, he knew right away that they found Marv, and the movie was going to be a success.
Do you guys know this was made totally on virtual sets? Likewise with 300 and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow among others, there were no physical sets, all the backgrounds were cgi-generated. The actors are filmed in front of green screens. The trend hasn't continued much though it does save cost on building sets, the cost of cgi generation I'm guessing hasn't dropped enough.
Big credit to Brittany Murphy (RIP) in her part as Shellie but passed in .'09 and Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) in his part as Manute who passed in '12. Both were great actors and seemed like a genuine people too who too passed early in their respective times. The same can be said about another great actor in this who’s fighting a tough illness. I’m hoping the best for the beloved American treasure that is Bruce Willis and others mentioned. Great performances from various great actors, cool vision, special n practical effects and good non linear interconnected story lines. Classic film from a cool Frank Miller comic
A fave, but it puts me into a very specific neo-noir mood 😨. I love the splashes of color straight out of Frank Miller's work. Sin City consists of seven graphic novels. This covers 1 The Hard Goodbye (Marv), 3 The Big Fat Kill (Dwight) and 4 That Yellow Bastard (Hartigan). The sequel is almost entirely 2 A Dame To Kill For (as the title suggests), so it is something of prequel. Frank Miller co-directs on the sequel. For another Miller directed B&W+color superhero movie - The Spirit, with Sam Jackson and ScarJo (pre-MCU)
This is one of the closest adaptations of a comic to screen I've seen - there are featurettes with some comparison's, and it's often shot-for-shot. Great work. Another comic-adaptation well worth watching is the Director's Cut of *Watchmen* - the source material is IIRC the only graphic novel that made it onto the Times 100 all-time best *novels* list. There's another comic which a character in the Watchmen comic is reading periodically - and they even made an animated movie out of that and packaged it with the director's cut. THe villain/antagonist is also IMO one of the best antagonists in fiction. Would be great if you'd consider watching the Watchmen :)
Rodriguez really paid attention to the framing of specific panels and captured it insanely well. Goldie and Kevin's deaths are stunning scene recreations.
My favorite quote from Frank Miller is how he described Marv. He said " Marv is essentially Conan The Barbarian in a trenchcoat." My favorite character from this movie & the Sin City comics is Marv. The best story from the comics is The Hard Goodbye with Marv as the main character. Marv is one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. Here's my top 10 comic book characters of all time 1. Batman 2. Daredevil 3. Deadpool 4. John Constantine 5. The Crow 6. The Punisher 7. Marv 8. Spider-Man 9. The Flash 10. Spawn Honorable Mentions: Hellboy, Savage Dragon, Bloodshot, Venom, The Thing, Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch, The Invisible Woman, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Nightwing, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, Swamp Thing, The Sandman(Morpheus), Jesse Custer, Raphael, Leonardo, Donetello, Michelangelo, Splinter, Casey Jones, Abigail Arcane, Batgirl, Robin(Damien Wayne), Black Widow, Impulse, Zorro, The Spirit, & Conan The Barbarian.
Good ups. The Spirit (2008) is not considered as good a film as Sin City, but it's still a good watch. Originally a comic strip by someone else, the film version is written and directed by Frank Miller and it takes and uses lots of the same and similar stylistic choices as Sin City.
I personally think Marv is the greatest anti-hero in comic book history, and Mickey Rourke was practically made for the role, he steals the movie. His and Hartigan"s stories are equally horrifying, funny and tragic.
Great movie great story. Iif you two like this style you might like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Btw Sarah should try voice acting.. very unique tone👍
This movie pulls no punches in showing the sheer ugliness of child predators, and the links of corruption between church and government. Also the depths of depravity that the rich and powerful revel in, while the so-called 'bad' guys are the ones with a moral code. The cannibal storyline was inspired by a real life case of a Japanese man who claimed that eating his victim 'filled him with white light', a line given to the corrupt cardinal in the film. As for Mickey Roarke, his narration is among the All Time Great voice overs in cinema.
It’s great that you were able to reup your trip to the city without pity. I don’t know about you, but I had a blast. A year belated Happy Birthday, Sarah. Just admit it. You’re his partner in heart-stealing crime. 😉
This film is one of the few times where I prefer the Theatrical Cut (this version) over the extended cut. The extended cut plays every story from beginning to end, instead of showing the beginning of Hartigan's story, then Marv, and Dwight, etc.--whereas the extended plays the full story, so you see the end of Hartigan's story before even getting to Marv's or anyone else's. It is just a far weaker film in the extended cut imo
My beef with the film is that Bruce Willis is meant to be 'pushing 60' when he was clearly nowhere near that age, and then looks exactly the same when he gets out of prison supposedly 8 years later. The role is an aged cop near retirement and would have been better served by an older actor, but Bruce Willis had the juice back then and studios want the safety net of a big star regardless of suitability. They ought to have at least altered the character's age to fit Willis.
@@zonedout5998 Okay, but he also stated the guys age as pushing 60. while Willis looked much younger, and then he's in his late 60's when he gets out, but looks the same as before.
Oh hell no, it was trash. Tried too hard & dialogue was horrible. Jessica Alba was way too skinny and lost that curvy appeal. Marv was missing the "something special". But to each it's own.
Marv the toughest character ever created, for another great black and white stylish movie try “Rumble Fish” Francis Ford Coppola directed with Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke , great Art movie, thanks

True to the artwork of the original comic classic - from the days when they were an art form.
Art is right.
7:23 Fun Fact: That priest is Frank Miller, the writer of the comic this is based on and also wrote The Dark Knight Returns and Daredevil born again
Marv: 'I don't hurt dames'
Marv knocks Wendy unconscious.

She’s not innocent either. She clearly pulled a cardiac heist on him, and she’s keeping the loot.

Very appropriate red dress, Sarah! In fact, one of the original Sin City comic book stories was titled "The Babe Wore Red"!
Such a fun, old school adventure flick. I love those hard-boiled detective books from the 30’s & 40’s and Sin City has that film noir/hard-boiled vibe in spades. They really don’t make movies like this very often.

I would love to see Mickey Rourke in a Sam Spade noire detective film like the old Bogart movie from the 40's and 50's.
This film should be viewed by those directors who put comic book movies down, it's a remarkable piece of art!

This was the first scene that appears in the movie.
Robert getting Frank so heavily involved that he went into directing is one of the great things about Sin City.
Dark City has a style all its own and is also absolutely worth watching.
Frank Miller plays the priest in the confession box who gets blown away by Marv.
it has beed confirmed that Niho and Elija's character are only supernatural beings in the movie
Yeah. Wasn't Elija's character an actual demon?

He is. Even more directly in the comics, as issue 5 of _The Big Fat Kill_ begins with a page describing the Spartans’ stand at Thermopylae.
