Zenith STOL Instrument Panel INSTALL! (Ep75)

- I received my panel back from Aircraft Specialty and it looks fantastic! They cut the panel and silk screened all the switch and breaker lettering. This is the Zenith STOL panel (going in a Super Duty) and it has a dual screen Dynon HDX system with autopilot. For IFR navigation it sports a Garmin 175 GPS. For emergency back up, I have installed a Dynon D3 Pocket Panel in the center console.
There's a lot wiring to be done now, but Dynon makes this relatively painless by providing very detailed wiring diagrams. It's a lot of work, but not overly challenging.
I highly recommend Aircraft Specialty for your kitplane needs. The flap switch is also from AC Specialty.

I can't wait until you finish this project!
Me too! This is going to be a great camping airplane.
The first assembly of the panel with all the final instruments, switches, etc certainly is the money shot of a plane build. Looks amazing!
Nice job Mark!!!…..Dynon and the control select units for the Dynon are top notch. Your panel looks great.
Someone lost the screws? Probably the guy who stole your hammer.
Certainly could not have been me! Brian the thief is back at it!!
I used to fly when I was in the Army. The only time I seen OD green look the same on our helicopters was when they came back from depot maint after being rebuilt and sent back to us to crash/fly again. But a couple of months of flying and sitting in a revetment out in the hot sun, they mostly end up looking more brown then OD green.
hello to my favorite plane builder i just love all your videos
Time to set in it and make airplane noise.
The colour combination looks really good. The panel with the instruments in place is fabulous. Your excitement reaching this stage in your build is obvious and contagious. I'm looking forward to the "surprise" in the next video. Thanks for the really good video/audio quality you produce.
Beautiful job and great information
Panel looks great
Santa made an early visit to your hanger. The panel looks FAN-TAS-TIC!!!
Very nice.
Mark, I LOVE THAT PANEL & Center council, the color with the printing is awesome.
Any word on your engine? Supply chain issues causing massive delays for Continental Titan engines.
Looks awesome!
Thank you!
Great retirement commercial for building custom airplane kits Mark, just saying ☺
Building, flying em , having fun an get paid---- dream come true brother!!
I love the retro look! The interior at a glance, makes me think old school, like a B-17, or something, then all that glass, for the modern look. Fantastic!
Fantastic panel! Iam enjoying your shows!
Hi mark, sorry what is the thicknes of your aluminum panel .065 .090?

Where can I look at the different instrument panels available for my 601 HDS?
The best way to get ideas is just to Google search instrument panels. Seeing various panels will give you ideas so that you can design your own.
Can’t wait for the Secret Squirrel reveal!
Where did you get the blue plastic tubes you put over the control cables?
Hobby store
Shaping up nice. Congrats
Looks awesome!
G,day Mark from Sydney Australia.
The Panel
Did you have to send them a template (full size) of the lettering.
The tread taping into the sheet aluminium, there would not be a lot of thread. It would be convenient to thread all, or nuts on the back.

That panel is a real beauty Mark.
The colour is absolutely fantastic as well 👍
Your cockpit is going to be something special when it is complete.
Cannot wait to see the seats.
Thanks for sharing your content 🙏
Hey Mark...looks absolutely flawless! You, of course have heard the axiom " there are builder/fliers or flier/builders. You are apparently the exception to that rule! Thanks for setting the ' bar ' a little bit higher for us!
I like the traditional technique where wire groups and bundles are laced or tied with cord.
Cord is easy to install plus the maintenance, and inspection later is easier due to the view and easy access.
Lacing and tying wires with knots that hold and secure together a group or bundle of wires creates an interesting appearance or aesthetic.
Teflon plastic spiral wrapping is great too. I like it because the bundle remains visible, it is easy sorta versatile in sizing, it slips and slides easy and can even tolerate a little heat.
Fire sleeving and connectors protection kinda get lumped into a different area of thought in my mind. Sure, there are plenty examples of where to use them.
I guess we're reluctant ( ever seen an electrician wire a stick frame home ? Compare that to a commercial wiring like a school or hospital).
I tend to think of fire sleeving as protection and prevention. While I would generally protect a splice with tubing the fire sleeving and zip ties might not be a bad idea
I find my self enjoying and just looking at the beautiful nature of it all. Can't wait for the next view.
Thanks for the share.
Looking good Mark! Can’t wait to see it out at the Owosso airport!
You and me both!
Put a USB with battery/alternator voltage into one of the holes.

That looks so much better than mine. Fantastic work....
Not any better, just different. Yours looks great!
Are you adding the Seattle Avionics charts to your HDX or staying with the Dynon generic terrain? (I did the latter)
I will add the charts. In my Cruzer I have an iPad with Foreflight for the charts. I’ll have no panel mounted iPad in the SD so I’m thinking I’d like to have the charts on the passenger side screen.
What is the advantage of a P-Mag over a traditional magneto?
I’m not 100% sure yet. I’ve got more research to do but everyone seems to recommend the P mags.
