- Oh damn, we have a rematch between two of the world's current best Warcraft 3 players, Happy and Lyn! A couple of weeks ago, Lyn managed to beat Happy in a best of 3 series with mass Windriders, let's see how this series goes!

the way he was just abusing mass wyverns and bats on undead during their last 2 encounters seems a bit unfair tbh, how should Happy respond, if there even is a solution to this, idk.
@@xtremelemon8612 Doesn't mean it's unfair. For a long while UD seemed unbeatable by all races. Now both HU and Orc are beating the best UD in the world. Seems to me like a classic case of meta game solving balance issues by itself. There simply aren't enough WC3 competitors at the high level to make good balance anymore, sadly. The data we collect now are so small compared to what they used to be when there were tons of tournaments of very high tier players all the time.

Game 1, the TP was because Happy had killed one of Lyns units while creeping on the other side of the map. So Lyn knew happy was there and TPed after.

For those who didn't watch the games on Twitch: in the first game Lyn knew Happy was near his base because he sent a Peon and saw the army (you can check at 11:40 in the minimap). Grubby went back to check because people mentioned a Sentry but the Sentry was put later (at 11:55 exactly) but that wasn't included here. Might seem lucky but with Lyn's play I'd say he kinda intuited it.
surprised he missed that, there was even a ping for it too.
So sad that for Orc, the race with the big, powerful melee units in the Grunt and the Tauren... neither is viable so they end up massing Headhunters and Wind Riders instead 😢
Does he ever explain why Happy made a 2nd necropolis in front of his base?
Necro costs no wood so you can justify using one of your initial ghouls for haras instead of chopping. Ziggurat costs wood to build yet Necro, while not, also lands limit capacity.
One more additional benefit of necro over ziggurats, if you lose acolytes to far seer harass you can always create more of them without needing to cancel mid tech.
I think it is because once you start increasing your Tier, you cannot create Acolytes. Necropolis not does also gives you security but also grants you food.

you get 10 pop without losing lumber and you can have a faster tech. but you lose a lot of gold and you cant have an scout acolite, the gold is just not there. otherwise, happy ALWAYS scouts
Happy always goes for 2nd necropolis now when he expands. 2nd necro costs a little more total, has a built in nerubian (that also covers a bigger area due to larger unit model size), and has a lot more HP, allows for TP back to defend, produces acolytes for both replenishing harass loss and producing scouts while guaranteeing main necro nonstop upgrading. It's a win-win-win-win situation.

Did Happy forget how to play fiends? I remember a few years ago he was playing fiends exclusively. Did they get nerfed or something? I also remember fiends usually beat wyverns most of the time
The problem with Fiends is keeping them alive against the Orc ground army. Although if Orc went No-Rax twin Bestiary mass Wyverns, and then you cranked out some surprise Fiends (don't need a different building for this), then you would have a window where you're terrorizing the Wyverns and Orc hasn't got the Grunts out yet (although Raiders will likely already be there or coming shortly).
Yea thats what scouting is for. I guess Happy knows better than me, but if I see orc with no barracks I would make fiends

People comment before finishing the video, some never do finish it.
I think youtube counts the views after either the full duration is achieved ... and that this applies if you rewatch jusy a section of 10% for 10 times for example.
Could it be that a massive global distributed system allows itself to have little delays on non-time critical stat updates?
I am guessing the only good counter against Wyverns is building expansion (towers etc).
You may be forcing your enemy to build catapults or other units that are easier to pick off.
Maybe sending ghouls to harrass the peons would also be an option.
No easy routes for Happy it seems.
And how about maybe going DL instead of Lich? Having to put out a Wyvern out of sleep is not a cheap option. The Wyvern having to put anyone out of sleep is even worse.

Can someone explain why doesn’t Happy use something like Fiends against the WRiders? It just feels bad cause Bats can just suicide in and clear any air. Why even bother going Air v Air when Orc feels so much better.
Just pro player things. Sometimes they just keep doing things that dont work. We are too simple minded to ubderstand them 😅
Fiends are pretty slow even with Unholy Aura, so actually catching any wind riders becomes very difficult when the enemy has god tier micro. At lower levels it's a great counter, though!
Fiend need Web upgrade to be useful against air. Considering the tech advantage of Orc, they can easily transition to other units if they saw the Undead building Fiends. There's nothing wrong with Fiends I guess but this is just how Happy wants to play against Lyn.
Web can be disspelled right? It makes it pretty useless if so

I admired Happy through all the years, plus I’m Russian, but still I somehow find myself rooting for Lin here. And then I realise it’s because being Grubby’s fan taught me to root for mass wind riders lol

Lyn made Happy look like a noob. Of course, everybody knows that Happy is a phenomenal player, perhaps the Warcraft 3 GOAT, but it just seemed as though the army of ghouls was really weak, and the creeping in Lyn's face was desperate and saw him take too much punishment.
The death coil on the feral spirit was not worth it. When I play undead, my army seems to be really weak until statues come out. I'm surprised wind riders are so strong in this match-up. In general, I find that they only work when they surprise the opponent, but Lyn shows us otherwise.
New to the WC3 scene, just a question, do you guys use the original WC3 game or are you guys playing on reforged? Thanks.

If it's on an island with no natural predators then yea they don't need to fly.

For the sake of anyone honestly curious - birds like the Dodo inhabited islands with no natural predators and little competition, over time the benefits of flight were outweighed by the cost (energy) required to sustain.
Over time this arrangement favored individuals with smaller and less functional wings and the population shifted.

@@drumunism3781 Flying is actually incredibly ressource intense, if you are on an island with no predators and an abundance of easy food there's no reason for you to fly.

Saw this series on Back to Warcraft, but the level of insight from Grubby is far superior, showing the true decision making of these two top level players. How important the vision was in game 1 and 2, micro of the wolf to kill the acolyte so fast, AI cheese on the creep to control how it moves and not get it coiled. These are some of the many decisions that the pro gamers make at their level, and Grubby is able to show this so clearly.

Would it be worth it to make some spirit walkers and spirit link the headhunters so they can survive a coil+nova? Or does the cost of that make the headhunter numbers too low and then they become ineffective?
This is a guess from a total scrub, but Im assuming that by the time you have enough HHs as well as Walkers, the UD will be too close to Destroyers to make Walkers that useful anymore
6:05 I think this game happened at the point Happy was already really frustrated cause Lyn has been abusing mass wyverns and bats on him and he couldnt find a solution. Maybe even now he hasnt, as UD always kinda struggled vs mass air and wyverns counters needs to be rushed asap cause they are longer for ud to make, probably thats why he was rushing gargs-destros as fast as possible without even scouting. Thing is the other time he did that it still did not work cause there is a big window of time before when orcs will dominate and then prevent him from turning the tables even with the right units.
What should an undead player do to counter mass wyverns and bats though? Scouting early and harassing orcs to delay them as well? idk
Crypt fiend dominates anything in the air. The problem then is mobility.
happy had a showmatch vs lyn earlier today and won 5-0. ALL games were vs wyverns. he looked dominant, but ofc those were "only" showmatches

I like the cheese metaphor its just for Americans there is some dissonance as our American “Cheese” is processed milk crap and not sure why anyone would single it out to eat. A more similar idiom would be Picking the Cherry from the sundae.
To be honest, I'm not really a fan of the mainstream casters that try to sound really exciting and talk really fast, to amp up the vibe.
I'd rather listen to some more nuanced things that are happening in a pro match that maybe Grubby has some insight into which I'm not aware of.
I mean, I'm not completely clueless about WC3 so I don't really care too much about a caster describing the basics of what's happening since I can already see it.
But that's just me.
Came for sone Warcraft glory, stayed for Grubby's narration of top level plays.
It's like I am in my teens talking about the game with my friends all over again. He never lost the passion and I really admire and respect people like that.
I really don't vibe with B2W at all so grubby casts are an absolute godsend
