- The featured voice on the hook of this song is from my brother, Nathaniel Escoffery Clarke, aka Topman, aka Ken. He wrote that song about his jailhouse experience after he was released on bail. The first time I ever heard myself on a record was when he passed me a microphone when I was just 7. He’s one of the main reasons I wanted to become an artist. Ken never got to properly explore his musical talent due to his untimely passing in 2004, when he was shot and killed by police officers in Jamaica. This year, 2024, marks 20 years of him being in Valhalla. I am unsure if he wanted to become a professional artist, but just in case he did, I want to be the first to make his voice heard outside of our community.
In this song, Jail House, I used my brother’s voice as the hook and created verses around it to send a message. We all make mistakes, some greater than others. However, once given that second chance, make the most of it. Don’t let your mistakes define you. Yes, you can change for the better; you just have to do it.
