  • Today I’m taking the time to answer a very frequently asked question, is the Dodge Charger good in the snow? If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard this question asked or seen it posted on the forums I would be very wealthy LOL. Also just wanna say thank you to my almost 500 subscribers! I would like to put out more content I just have trouble finding the time as I’ve been keeping quite busy lately. Please feel free to post any other future video requests or ideas in the comments I try to read and respond to as many as I can!

    My grandparents drove a Lincoln towncar to hell and back through blizzards and shit, and they floored it and the car never spun out. The weight is high enough to where they’ll keep their traction better than most.

    Winter tires are required by law here during the winter months in Quebec where we get crazy snow. You can get a ticket if you don't put winter tires on when pulled over. Other than being parked at a curb where there is snow build-up or slush and my rear tires spin out a bit, I usually can get out of the space by doing a rocking maneuver. I get as far forward as I can, stop and turn the wheel side to side to move the snow out from under the front tires, then I go in reverse and right as the car rocks back forward I jam it into drive and go forward. This will eventually rock me out of the spot. I've even gotten good with making the car SHIMMY into a spot when there is snow. So if I'm parking behind a car rather than parallel parking I can reverse into the spot on an angle and spin the tires, and the car will literally zig zag itself straight into the spot. Like this guy said, WINTER TIRES (good ones) and good driving skills you can drive this in the winter!!! Even in the worst conditions.
    In Quebec our routine is we have a second set of winter tires with just a basic steel rim and store them during the non-winter months. Then we keep our nicer rims on our summer tires and swap to those after the winter ends. This way you're not ruining your nice rims in the winter with all the snow and salt and scraping, and only use those rims in nice weather with the regular tires. It's an expensive but it's something you do when you own a car in Quebec. Tire/rim storage isn't too expensive either most body shops will store them for you for the entire winter and swap them out, then store your summer tires and vice versa.

      My little sister lives and works in Quebec and she did tell me about how winter tires are required. I definitely agree. They are a sound investment. We do the same here in western New York. Although winter tires aren’t required here, many people have a separate set of rims for the winter. Myself included.

    The AWD pursuit model is the best choice for NY winters.

    • @wjye
      @wjye  3 года назад +4

      I won’t disagree, if you can get AWD then do it. But still the RWD is absolutely manageable in the snow.

    I went from Dodge Avenger to Dodge Charger GT. Got a big hit on rain wet roads unlike my Avenger just blows through it. I’m holding my breath on snow but YOU got a a point. I’m going to get winter tires just to be safe. I can drive in rain now, I’ll just have to take it slow some get used to it then repeat like I did with rain.

    As long as the snow is not too deep and there's no ice, it can handle it. The stability control is incredible and can keep the car straight even if you break traction at 50mph. The longer wheelbase and heavier weight (compared to other sedans) is an advantage when it comes to maintaining control of the vehicle. That said, the car does half the job and you (the driver) have to learn how to handle slippery conditions.

    • @ConsensusX
      @ConsensusX 2 года назад +3

      I've floored my RWD Charger around a turn during a snow storm (with all stability systems on). You can feel the way the system prevents the car from going any faster when you break traction. You can also feel it try it's very best to keep the car from oversteering. Under normal snow conditions, it's difficult to actually lose control in this car.

    Great video, of course it's going to be fine with winter tires but those are expensive. I doubt the cops are switching every car with winter tires. How does it do in the snow with all season tires?

    • @wjye

      Cops in my area actually do swap out tires in the winter. I will say that this car did pretty decent with all season Goodyear Eagle RSAs

      This is an older post but last year I had to drive my Challenger R/T in the Michigan snow. I bought some Firestone Blizzak tires. While pretty good in snow up to about 4-5 inches if roads aren't plowed just 1/8th of an ice sheet almost took me and my Challenger out of service permanently. I was very lucky there were no other cars around during a usually busy time of the day. That was the only problem I had and we had a pretty snowy and cold Michigan winter 2022-23.

    I'm looking at a 2011 hemi pursuit car, I have to take the 219 to work and currently drive an awd magnum. How would this car do on that road and winding hill back roads as I have to take those to get to the 219. I can't find these cars in awd anywhere near me

    • @wjye
      @wjye  2 года назад

      I’m not familiar with that area, but in RWD configuration this car is very agile and handles pretty good. For a big car it holds its own.

    Hey man I’m in the market for one of these cars. I’m buying from the Ohio state patrol on auction. How has the car been treating you? I want to make sure it’ll last a few years before I go buy one. If you could give a general run down of maintenance and other costs it would be appreciated

    • @wjye
      @wjye  3 года назад +2

      Honestly, the newest you can get is the best. the 15's are decent if thats what you want. As for comparison to asian cars, its hard to say. The Chargers are fairly reliable and do have some flaws that are expensive if they break. I will say that they are not known for Toyota Corolla level reliability, but on that note, my car has given me no issues in 3 years of ownership.

    I'm shopping for a charger R/T right now and I am absolutely TORN between a 2014 RT rwd 100th anniversary, or a 2014 RT awd with cloth seats (quick order model). Both are priced about the same but I have always had awd cars living up north in the snow...

    • @wjye
      @wjye  3 года назад +1

      I couldn’t help you decide which one is best for you, but I can say that there’s nothing to worry about with these cars in the snow. It’ll be different then what your used to, but get some good quality snow tires, give yourself extra time to get to where you’re going and you’ll be fine! Just takes getting used to.

      LOL sorry man, the question is kinda variable. If you got snow tires and are a confident driver in the snow and know your car YES it’s good on the snow. If you’re not a confident driver, and don’t know how to manage a RWD car in the snow and have bad tires then No, it won’t be a good winter car. Unless you get an AWD car, the RWD is variable lol
