20mph you will all lose your licences. Big brother, in some cases does it matter if you are speeding, late at night empty roads. But rules are rules and keeps people in jobs like the police and courts. If you break the rules and cause an accident throw the book at you other wise it is like if a tree fall in a forest and no one hears it did it fall?
Andy, in Shropshire. Telford and shrewsbury we have a taxi company we Knick named go spaz. There are countless reports and videos of their drivers who are mostly foreign. Note I have lots of foreign friends who are very good quality workers and contribute to our system without any negatives) doing illegal things, manoeuvres, driving up the wrong side of dual carriageways and far more serious allegations. They’re a shocking company and they don’t care about their shocking reputation as there are no other options.
Leeds are doing their best to create as much congestion as possible for all drivers, with the changes being made to their road system over the last few years, but rapidly worsening recently.
There is the diagonal foot crossing on Boar Lane, which i find dangerous. Also, don't forget the taxis and buses which have been moved from the front of the railway station, down to the street!
The quangos never seem to think about how their excessive red tape makes the sector unattractive to enter or stay within. It’s a risky industry to start with with lots of risks and costs with limited certainty of income.
@@justreality4054I doubt they do, to be honest, I retired after 35 years as a cabbie, the local council were forever introducing the regulations and stupid courses we had to attend, one was a nvq in taxi driving which I had to do after nearly 30 years experience. Complete waste of my time TBH. So called tester had NEVER driven a cab particularly on a winter night on a lonely rank with all the local drunks wanting a cab while throwing up. Not a chance. Someone dies a runner, no help from local politzi, know who to ask when they wanted information though. Two courses regarding child protection, again a waste of time, doing nothing an experienced cabbie wouldn't do any way, (I had personally reported children I considered at risk, luckily action was taken). No job security as council could change rules with no consultation. Very few new drivers as they don't want to pay almost 1k for first licence. .
Leeds authority is a joke, the area is swamped with surrounding areas plates. age restrictions etc are different so people are operating in old bangers when Leeds plates have to be Hybrid/Electric and younger
They want bad drivers off the road. I can tell the speed of my car by the engine note. I only do 6000 miles a year so a taxi driver should be able to be a perfect example of a driver.
AFAIK 12 points within three years usually leads to a ban, a magistrate can overrule that if your appeal is successful but that's rare. Newer drivers have lower limits. Most points stay on your licence for four years. Personally I don't think that anyone who drives poorly enough to get 12 points in three years should be on the road anyway.
One has to have a clean licence when one applies to drive a HGV so why not taxi's. I have only ever had one endorsement on my licence long before the points system was introduced and never had a caution or been through a driver awareness course.
Not sure you're entirely correct, or perhaps you have not explained it very well? So to avoid any confusion for others: Yes, in general it is 12 points, but that is a threshold at any time. The 3 years comes from, that is the time the points stay on your licence, but some offences or circumstances can stay on your licence for longer. Another aspect to this is that if you have accrued 12 points, for relatively minor offences, and losing your licence would severely effect your ability to do your job and earn a living, the courts may defer any ban, subject to you not getting any further points for a set period of time. (Typically the next 3 years) I hope this helps and makes sense.
Andy Out of interest if you lose your driving licence for silly little reasons ( I'm obviously not talking drink driving ) . After the ban, you can reapply for your driving licence back as a normal member of the public. Is it the same with your taxi licence, or would you have to take your taxi driving test again. Cheers.
If your licenced to drive that's it councils have tried all these things before and they can't do it you take them to court they will loose. Where I live they tried to bring it in that if you had ever been convicted of drink driving could have been 30 years ago then they would refuse a drivers badge well they were told they can't do that because it comes under the rehabilitation of offenders act and if a certain time has lapsed it must be overlooked
Hi Andy Guy I work with says you can’t give away Glasgow Hackney or private licenses anymore , as they arsehole council will be bringing in legislation to allow only LPG taxis soon and there are only two companies anywhere close, who will or are able to do conversions .
Well that is excessive, a good safe standard of driving is a must and a safe vehicle of course, but being forced into vehicles that aren't in general use is too much.
12 points on the license is the limit for a ban but the magistrate can allow the driver to continue if there is the likelihood that extreme hardship is caused as a result of the ban. A taxi driver without a license is out of a job, he/she may be the sole support of a family so arguably they should not be banned. On the other hand, taxi drivers are providing a transport service for the public and it is fair and reasonable to expect that they are competent at doing so. There is a strong case for taxi drivers to pass an enhanced driving test to demonstrate their competence as other public transport drivers do e.g bus drivers, ambulance staff, police etc Getting caught for minor misdemeanors on the highway is serious, not in the value of the offence but in the fact that to have done so without good cause is driving without due care and attention.
Good job you don't live in Germany then. You would have panic attacks. Stick to 20mph in your granny-wagon and thereby increase pollution while you drive. Sounds really sensible. Not.
Yes, I do, having the lives of the public in their care should mean they are held to higher standards (9 points) and if they do manage to gain 12 points, should never be able to drive a taxi again.
Did you know Gatwick Airport runs a monopoly only Gatwick cars can operate out of Gatwick and most of the drivers are immigrants and a large a.ount of them don't know where they are going
Not true ! Black taxi drivers have to buy a specially designed and expensive black cab. They also have to complete training to gain the 'Knowledge', before they can get a Hackney Cab licence. Yet Uber drivers and their like only need a car, any car. So hardly equal !
Leeds council has been on an anti personal transport agenda for years. TV star mayor talks about buses. Spent millions on road narrowing, bus lanes, 20mph zones etc
12 points is loss of license. I don't think stopping them working at 9 points is a bad thing as to have committed that amount of offences knowing the area shows poor standards of driving and that is not acceptable
If a cabbie expects the public to trust him, he needs to prove he is responsible and drives within the law, and safely. Any points on his licence is an indication he does not respect how important laws are with regard to the safety of others. I drove for 35 years without any points, or before points any endorsements, on my licence, until one day while driving in Scotland I got frustrated by the inconsiderate driving of others and very unprofessionally overtook some people, at excessive speed, that had been holding me up on a single carriageway road, once I got to a dual carriageway. I was clocked by an unmarked police car who pulled me over and issued me with a fixed penalty fine, and three points. Points are not just 'one of those things'. They are completely avoidable. Don't speed, don't have your phone in your hand while driving, and don't drive like a twat. Moreover, if you get a speeding ticket or points for anything on your licence, you need to inform your insurance company. They will likely up your premium at the next renewal (they did that to me). If you don't tell them, and you don't make a claim, you may get away with it, but if you don't tell them and they find out, or you try to make a claim, you could find your insurance becomes void.
Hackney Carriage are the safest taxis out there, they have a very intense annual inspection of the vehicle, Private cabs dont, the HC drivers are required to have no criminal record, unlike private hire, who very often do. The HC cabs have driver Identity and are required t o know the area in which they drive in, private cabs have some clown with a phone on the dash. Private hire cab drivers, especially in Leeds are some of the worst drivers on the road, and on Otley Road it is possible to get 12 points in a mile with speed cameras everywhere.
Taxi drivers are not exempt from the SAME rules as other road users ... you did maention driving "sensibly" after all. at the beginning of the video...... 😀
If you are incapable of doing YOUR job without BRAKING THE LAW.. THREE TIMES. whilst also putting members of the public in an unsafe position, potentially with children.. THEN YES REMOVE THE LICENCE. Its quite simple, drive properly or get the bus. Don't care if its your job, in my job I don't need to break the law. Also I cant kill a child and cry its not my fault gov...
Let's face it. it's all about forcing people off the road.

yes 12 points is the limit for a normal drivers licence in a 3 year period for old drivers, for new drivers it's 6 points in the first 2 years.
Yes normally a ban ,but if you can prove undue hardship they will let the ban go on hold usually increase the fine instead.
Not sure you're entirely correct, or perhaps you have not explained it very well?
