I just used prime T to prepare my osb subfloor. Then I read the instructions on the package of Mapei Self-Leveler Plus, and it said “Do no install over particleboard, chipboad, oriented strand board(OSB)…or any other non-dimensionally stable materials.” So, based on your experience, there is no problem, right? Thank you.
Hi, I showed you real video how I did this leveling. After I did glue down hardwood floor. No problem. I did leveling like this few times. It’s work for me. I can’t say this instructions on the bag is wrong. If you not sure - don’t do it. Thanks!
@@MrYoucandoityourself As a DIYer, I don’t have enough experience. So I just want to make sure. Thank you for your reply and video. I just poured the self-leveler. It is just a small bathroom. I will take my chance.
I wondered the same thing but I noticed in his video he is using Novoplan 2 plus and not just Self_leveler Plus and reading the datasheet on that one it doesn't have that same piece under the "Limitations". So I would suggest using the Novoplan 2 Plus if anyone is reading this. My local Lowes doesn't carry the Novoplan 2 but they do carry Henry's 555 LevelPro and it doesn't appear to have that limitation either.
Me too 1st time DIYer doing a bathroom. I called the company because it also states to use a metal mesh stapled to the subfloor before pouring. But the Tech on the phone said it could be used on OSB board or cheap subflooring... Just add the mesh. To tell you the truth I'm going to just lay it down like this person did and not worry about the mesh. I've already spent to much money on this project @@fanwu3650 How did yours turn out?
Great video, you didn't mention about the roller at the end - how long are you letting it setup before moving with this roller and what type of roller? Thanks!
Hi, Sorry. I am using my own brand of spike roller, I am selling it with tripods and spike shoes. I am not letting settle self-leveling compound, just roll it out as soon it possible.
@MrYoucandoityourself the primer was compatible with OSB, but the self leveling compound was not. I assume the primer was used to protect the OSB floor from the compoud? But I could not find anything official about that being a workaround. So I don't know if it will cure right. So that's why I wonder. The stuff is not cheap and costly if it fails. I have OSB subfloors and they are wavy and sloped in areas. So leveling compound is out of the question. Only things I found that says it's compatible are Ardex feather finish and Henry's 549. Both come in small amounts and are really expensive. And I need a lot. Mapei feather finish is a no on OSB. I thought about using a primer compatible with OSB and feather finish, but no luck.
If you are scared to put directly to PSB self levelling compound, you can glue 1/4” plywood over OSB with flooring glue and also put screws. After 2-3 days you can use regular primer for wood T- primer for Mapei and then use Mapei Novoplan 2 or SP or leveller plus. Plywood need to install on diagonal- 45 degrees to all subfloor direction. Another option, fill up all OSB with Mapei planipatch with acrylic for planipatch, next day you can use petulant primer L for Mapei and SLC.
I don’t know about Henry’s material, but Ardex- it’s very professional and specific material, because used for final coat in for polishing and for epoxy coating. That’s why too expensive. Mapei more relable and simple to use and medium price.
Hi Nicholas, this roller help me make the leveling compound more flat, because with straight edge it's hard to get this perfect result (some humps is left). But you can use straight edge only. No problem. Thanks!
Hi, yes. I did some leveling with this material, because the builders supply it. You need to get used to each material. I am using Mapei. I like it because for me it's quality, easy to use, time for settle, price and result very reasonable. Thanks!
hey there! my subfloors are very unlevel. I have 1/2 plywood as first layer with 3/4 particle board on top and the particle board has some sort of laminate covering thats cracking and chipping away. Would i be able to self level straight over that or would it either be best to remove the partical board or just add a cheap 1/4 board over the particle and pour onto that?
Hi Garrett, if it’s possible- remove particle boards and laminate as well. Check for squeaky. If needed put screws. Then install with diagonal direction another half inch plywood and then level it . Thanks!
Hello, thank you for this video! What do you suggest if the osb has been painted a few times? Should we put leveling compound straight on to the painted surface? Thanks!!
Hi Calvin, good question! I never did leveling over the painted subfloor. No warranty for proper bonding self-leveling compound with the subfloor. I would recommend you remove this paint. Thanks for watching!
just had this done in my kitchen (osb).. Installer went straight from primer to leveler. Didn't dry very long. I asked him "aren't you going to let it completely dry?" He said "not necessary". So now I worry if it will hold up.
Thank you for the video and sharing your knowledge! I have one question and wanted your opinion. I have particle board subfloor in mobile home. It is new and in good condition. Do you think I should use a water barrier like Red Guard ( roll-on) first and then a primer over that? Or just the primer like in your video? I'm not sure if the water in the leveling compound will make the particle board swell up. Do you have any experience with particle board subfloor? Thank you sir.
Hi Steve, I don't have experience with mobile home restoration, but in my opinion better to put a "red guard" from the bottom of the particle board than from the top, because mobile homes have air space from the bottom and moisture coming from there. From the top good enough put primer like this T - primer, because it blocks any wood absorption and airflow. Thanks!
Mapei self levelling compound requires mesh over osb...also if using osb 2 layers of osb is required along with the primer.... this is information directly from mapei technical dept....
I'm going to make a comment but I don't want you to think I'm being a smart alec. Why do they call this "self leveling", although it looks anything but. Also, how can you not remove material from the low areas when you are using the roller? How can you level something that is following the contour of the floor? I'm guess I'd have to be there to see it work. Thank you for the video.

I see you put something on the seams to the osb. What did you use. Thanks
I put caulking, to avoid leaks.
Everything seems good at the time of install. But I wonder if it held up over the years or started fail.

When u use the roller to get the air bubbles out does that really make a difference as opposed to not using a roller?

Hi sir how are you please can tell me self leveling compound name and which company is better
Hi Sajjad, I am using only one brand - Mapei. Also Ardex is very good, but more expensive.
What was the specific products you used? Is it possible to paint that floor?
Thnx
Ardex used for painting and epoxy. Mapei I used only for leveling. Thanks!
How do you stop the levelling from leaking down the staircase?
