Love it! Thanks for sharing Jim! It's amazing to see the evolution of a song...especially one of my all-time favorites. The vocals and your drumming and the guitars and bass were amazing!
Jim, I woke up at 7:07 this morning, and that somehow prompted me to look up this song. I recall playing that during my short stay at WLLZ in Detroit back in the early 80's. Nice to hear some nice, clean audio. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing! one of my all time fave songs!!!….I always thought the flanging on the track was Van Halen influenced as he used the effect prominently in 1980
He was, yes. Felix and I played on several sessions together. He is a very good bass player and we worked well together. For our last tour, with Ted Nugent, he joined us for a couple of months.
Hello Jim, Big fan of early 707, saw you in Boulder in 1982, fantastic show. Can you tell me who sang lead on “I Could Be Good for You”? I believe it was Duke, please confirm. Also, can you share the reason Duke left? Doesn’t he sing lead on many of the first albums great songs? Thank you and God Bless.
Hello Gerald. Thanks for all the kind words. Those were good years. Yes, on the album Duke sang the lead on the verses. But Phil sang the choruses. As far as Duke's departure, I don't mean to speak ill of someone who has passed on, but let's just say his inability to control his excesses made it impossible to continue. We needed someone we could rely on night after night. Nevertheless, I was always proud of the songs we wrote and the music we made together.
Thank you for uploading all these great rarities. 707 was a marvellous band. So many great songs, and my first introduction to Howarth and Chalfant. I'd have to say my own personal faves will always be "You Who Needs To Know" and "Pressure Rise", rather than this one, but that's just me. The only band member I don't have any time for these days is Kevin Russell. He put out that disgraceful "Trip To Heaven" album under the name of 707, but it was far from it. No keyboards (that I could detect), poor songs, and well..... just trading on the 707 name! He had the cheek to say "it was for the true 707 fans" (or something like that). So I see.... if Iron Maiden released a reggae album and a fan said they didn't like it, then they wouldn't be a "true" Maiden fan, right? If you're a fan of an artist, you HAVE to like every single thing they do? What an a-hole!
Thanks Jim, always loved this song! IMO one of the best songs of the eighties! Profound lyrics as well.
Thanks kindly.

Thanks, Michael. It's been fun looking back at the early days of the band.
Love it. The tweaking of the song makes a big difference. The Mike Douglas Show had to be a huge opportunity back then.
It was fun doing Mike Douglas. He was a good host and a good guy.
Great to hear this studio demo!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's fun to revisit some of this old stuff.

You're welcome.
Wow! Thank you for sharing. I saw a photo of you in a band with Felix Robinson. Wasn't he a member of Angel?
He was the bass player in Angel. He joined us for our last tour together as a band. He is a good fellow.
