I really want the HL 2 or next HP game truly focus on the school itself, like Bully where you'd go to classes everyday etc, this is what i was missing. Man it would be so cool to have a next gen simulator within the HP universe, a true RPG like BG3 where you have the depth to interect with all the students, forge your own path, where you can be good or turn into a dark wizard. It truly would be a wish coming to life.
I share this view. I wanted that school sim experience, and would have preferred to have started as a first year - approaching the castle from the boats rather than the intro sequence we got. More interactions with NPCs would be nice, with a meaningful morality system and functional House Cup leaderboard.
I think the weakest part of the game was the actual school life bit. They did this weird "You are unique and have to do things differently" thing which just feels like it alienates the player more than anything. Also there are basically zero rules for you, you can run around Hogwarts at night and nothing happens. Forbidden forest? Hardly, there is a small bridge and a warning sign. Game did a lot right but I think a lot of the feeling was lost to not inconvenience the player, I on the other hand would rather have to use magic to sneak past hallway monitors to sneak out at night and have to get back for lessons on time. Would make it more like the films.
The more you lean into the "school sim", the more you drift away from "your own path". If you want the immersion, what sense does it make that an 11-17yo student that goes to class becomes an actual Dark Wizard during the school year? I think Hogwarts Legacy already suffered because "we want the unforgivable spells" and they somehow needed to make them fit in both the narrative and gameplay. Either you want a "become an auror/dark wizard" game based on the HP universe, or you want a school sim where your best fighting spell is the Jelly-legs curse. You can't have a good both.
@@Germanchu92 Who is to say you cannot progress? The unforgiveables could be unlocked late game post-graduation, but tbh your argument is bunk considering Grindelwald and Tom Riddle were dark wizards whilst at school. Grindelwald was expelled from Durmstrang for already being dark, and Riddle was busy opening the Chamber and making Horcruxes whilst a fifth/sixth year. Both were 11-17 year olds.
HL was a solid start but they need to focus on making you feel like a student, mandatory classes, add stealth to the night time castle roaming, have more hogwarts focus
Hogwarts Legacy is pretty, and the music is amazing. I think it's a pretty middling game, but the atmosphere is wonderful. I'm not a HP fan at all, really, but HL is like a vacation.
pretty much this. I'm not interested in the film's story, and hate the books from what i've read. But something about the game gets the same vibe as going to the HP park in Universal Studios.
Vacation is a good term. I felt like it was basically a virtual Potter universe theme park. I will say the combat was a lot better than I had imagined when I heard there was going to be a Hogwarts game. I had no idea how the magic would work with a combat system and they pulled it off.
A lot of people want something like Persona. The aspect of Persona that Hogwarts really needs is time-management. You see this in the HP books. Do you study, or do you sneak out at night? Study is low-risk low-reward. Breaking rules is high-risk, high-reward. As an RPG, you need that balance in choices, opportunities, and priorities. Studying will help you advance your spell-work and abilities. Sneaking out of bed at night or bunking off classes might help you advance the plot against the BBEG. Pulling off risks might net you serious rewards. Failing at those risks might earn you a detention that limits your future opportunities. The accumulation of those different choices would result in very different end-game characters, and there would be more incentive to replaying the game with new characters other than Obligatory Evil Slytherin Character, and The Same Character But In Red, Blue, Or Yellow. It's stuff you can do in a HP-themed tabletop, but I'd love to see it in a videogame sequel.
Upon finishing and reflecting on Hogwarts Legacy, it felt more like a concept more than anything. Something about it felt either incomplete or missing.
I agree. I’m more than half way done and a Persona-like system really would’ve helped here, a class system, a morality/grade system? If anything I think they could’ve scaled the size of the open world down more to make Hogwarts bigger. I love walking around Hogwarts but I felt more like a ghost in Hogwarts than an actual student. I needed some school drama and wanted to feel like a student, again take Persona as example there is gossip from students you can hear which gives so much immersion
They should of taken a little inspiration from bully for a school system and class mini games. Also it always bugs me how when the season changes and the NPCs all walk around in the same clothes from the beginning, like it’s winter don’t they want to dress warmer? A dark wizard bounty system would have been great
Biggest issue HL had was that you didn't spend much time in Hogwarts. They should look to Bully if they make HL2 for how the social and schooling structure could work.
I think the immediate improvement I consider when hearing news of a ‘directors cut’ is easily reimplementing the prefect system. Walking around the castle at night was weird, it’d be far more interesting to dodge prefects. Also, maybe have people sleeping in the common room??? It’s dead at night. In fact, just revamp the common room - let me sit in chairs god damnit.
Honestly I was amazed with the job they did with HL - my expectations were so low but they smashed it. Its a fantastic foundation to add content and systems and build on the world. Delighted for the developers.
I loved Hogwarts Legacy. Story was pretty good, gameplay was serviceable, traversal was fun, world was fleshed out. I’m not even a big Harry Potter fan.

It isn't "live-service" that's bad, but not hiring specifically for Live-service. Not all developers want to be locked in one project for years. Comes down to hiring correctly for the project you want ultimately
Literally all I want is quidditch and more to do inside the castle/hogsmead. They already have broom flight and the quidditch arena. Adding the actual game would be so easy. And as beautiful as the castle is to look at, there's basically nothing to do inside it at all. Its a big empty space. We need some mini games like wizard chess. They should add a wizard chess board to the common rooms and the great hall. I want more random interactions inside the castle and the ability to go to classes as much as I want and help other students etc. There just needs to be more variety in what you can do in the castle, its just very boring after a while, doesn't really feel like you're a student at a school at all. The game 'Bully' did the whole highschool thing perfectly. Also would love to visit diagon alley.
It was probably not the most discussed, but it was certainly the loudest. The game was a rather controversial topic due to the creators views despite not being involved with the game.
I just hope we see a DLC that gives us a taste of what to expect from the sequel in terms of new/improved mechanics and features. Would be really cool if they do a small DLC based around more in depth combat mechanics, or classroom activities. I don't expect big story expansions but maybe a handful of new side quests would be good for at least something new content wise.
Hi Luke and chat. Just dropping by to say gamepass core is a scam and shouldn’t even exist. I know it tells you it’s a smaller selection of gamepass and such but it’s not even close. It literally has only about 15 games on there and nothing from within the past 3 years. I dropped my subscription down to try it and I was very surprised. I fully expected Xbox exclusives and legacy titles to still be on there. Things like halo. The only halo is halo 5. Not even mcc. Definitely didn’t expect it to go down to 15 games. Also, you can’t upgrade back to ultimate the same day it goes down so be careful if you’re thinking of doing this
I give them a break on the loading circles thing. Hogwarts itself, and the larger world outside are both massive and incredibly detailed, so going to an outdoor hallway or a bridge or something needs to effectively load in the entire world since you can hop on your broom and take off. It all has to be rendered. To do that in like less than a second I'll gladly allow 😂
And to not make a Quidditch DLC is just insane like I would BUY IT day one. Being able to sit in chairs and more interact-able animations would be a nice addition for role playing. I can’t think of a reason why can’t we have more duels seriously I want to defend my title lol
I mean I liked the game fine, I liked it enough to finish it anyway, but not enough to put more money into it after I already bought and recently finished it. I thought it was very mid for an open world single player rpg. They absolutely nailed recreating the magical world, but the joy of exploring all that died for me pretty quickly once I realized it's just another bland overstuffed rpg. Also one of the buggiest games I've played in a while...
Gameplay wise i feel they got the game spot on, combat felt great. Apart from that everything else was meh, it hardly felt like an rpg and your choices didnt really matter, like the difference in the good and bad ending is laughable. I also wished you could expand or specialise in cerain type magic or expand the skill tree with choices. I see people also mentioning romance options which would be cool. Hogwarts also looked amazing too but i didnt really feel like a student as i could go whenever whereever i pleased.
more quests, spells, be able to tag along your classmates/friends as companions, romance options etc. man this game has lots of potential to be even better hope they wont fck it up
The live service hate is crazy to me. Yeah it's been done wrong alot but I wouldn't mind and ongoing co op element to hogwarts. Seems perfect for it tbh
Was i the only one who barely played this? I absolutely love HP but the game felt like such a bland cookie cutter copy paste RPG without much soul, don't get me wrong certain aspects of it are still great imo like the open world or the wand combat and it's a great platform for a potential sequel but i don't want to play a bland rpg just because I like the universe
Isn't a big problem for a potential HL2 that it would have to use basically the exact same map? So it wouldn't feel like much of a sequel, but just DLC? Another issue would be the time setting, as a sequel set in a very different era also wouldn't make any real difference: That fact that the game was set in the late 1800s (if I remember correctly) was pretty much 100% irrelevant due to the fact that the modern Hogwarts world always looked quite Victorian anyway. Either way, I'd still welcome more as I enjoyed the game a lot, but milking the current game via a "Director's Cut" seems a lot more viable than an actual sequel.
that Olivander acton at universal had chosen one to kid to maky and was done with their shit. OR you was the one who looked the most exited in a room filed with kids in a magic shop
Since they already have the whole map, why don't they take the books and make modern games after them with this game engine ? Easiest money they'll ever make.
I love Hogwarts and the thing they can do to make me 0% interested in ever touching 2 is live service. Would be a massive middle finger and insult to the fans.
I get why people like this game but I was not a fan. It has way way too many puzzles and getting around the castle was confusing as hell. Kinda hated the map and the outskirts of Hogwarts felt barren I don't know why they even tried with that
I was really holding out on the game getting new game plus, but it was on sale for like 25 dollars and i hadnit on my wishlist since it dropped, so i decided just to buy it.
games devs are so entitled lately, "i worked hours on this game that no one liked and got bad press for it, how dare they criticize my hours of work" without considering that its not the time you put into it but the quality of it. you can spend a million years on shit, and itll still be shit in the end. no amount of "i worked hard on this shit" will turn shit into cake. and yes, they should be afraid of journalists with any ounce of integrity cuz thanks to them we get saved from wasting out money and our time on the sugar coated shit.
This project does seem totally unnecessary and they should be working on a sequel instead. I hope for everyone who already owns this game, they can just purchase a upgrade for the game to access the directors cut content. This does seem very slimy.
If the sequel goes live service I'm perfectly content with just the first game. NO thanks. A sequel should be able to played offline with no micro transactions and focus entirely on Hogwarts, no bloated. open world.
I will be honest I am not buying this directors cut if it’s a full priced game. They already lost a huge other console players because of that crappy DLC that they put out and trying to make people pay full price for.
I was disappointed in the main quest. It was just too linear. I was hoping the game would be more like Skyrim where you could choose to ignore the main story and there was a lot of other quests to pick and choose from to make each playthrough unique. A couple of different ideas to change that. -Choose to Apprentice to one of the teachers and a different quest line for each professor. -Make use of the common room more by having mini games such as Wizard Chess etc -Choose your own background. Maybe you get random letters from home at certain points, talking about a quest you’ve just done like they’re answering a letter from you, from a sibling or parent. -Bring a pet to school that comes along with you on quests. Honestly along with the main quest boring me to tears, I was disappointed that we didn’t start as a First Year. I would have preferred our character being older and coming to Hogwarts as a teachers assistant or Apprentice instead of starting so late as a student. I loved how detailed and beautiful the world was. The companions are wonderful. But the quests and RPG elements really let me down.
Man, that Olivander guy picking you is like the best. I bet they are told "hey ever 10th time pick an adult" or something like that. I know I'D be really happy if I got picked, and I'm 34.
"Hogwarts Legacy the biggest game of 2023" aka the game that nobody didnt talk/care abount since march 2023, nor it won any awards, besides "the most average game of 2023".
I would definitely like to see a HL2 do a Persona-style gameplay. The whole feel more like a student of Hogwarts aspect. They already made the castle, so that can reuse it and focus on going to classes and daily life of a Hogwarts student. Like how the Persona games make you feel like a student even if it was just quizzes and the like.
Jason dropping this article hours before and then just confidently walking around summer games fest is wild.Bro must be so short because the weight of his massive balls stopped his growth.
Unironically a Hogwarts live service could be banger don’t just dismiss it out of hand. It’s a world people want to live in which is the goal of a live service more or less, and every HP game has the same problem of you go to a class like 1 time and never again. Let me take classes and learn obscure spells and lore. Perfect for seasonal content as well
If ever Hogwarts Legacy 2 gets a live service aspect. They should do the Rockstar games template like GTAV and RDR2, which has a massive single player game plus an online aspect where people can just do anything in the open world. It’s easy as that. See how GTA Online keeps on racking up money years and years after the game was released.
What devs don't like assholes who make a living by shitting on others work even when it's not called for i'm shocked lol, but really false outrage, drama and just all the other clickbait bs is a bit part of why gaming sucks. Try to have a convo about any game and you will get all sort of crazy people saying off the wall crap.
There’s a certain agenda the game pushes that really put me off of the game after a while. I still have the game and I’d rather destroy it than sell it and make money off of it or even give it someone for free for their kid to play for the same reason.
Idk wtf you’re playing on but ive literally never had a bug in hogwarts and never had stutter issues. I swear this dude be making shit up half the time😂😂😂

why people obsessed with being a student. you been in school like 10+ years. why you want to experience that in a video game
This project does seem totally unnecessary and they should be working on a sequel instead. I hope for everyone who already owns this game, they can just purchase a upgrade for the game to access the directors cut content. This does seem very slimy.
If some of these devs ever see Asmongold in public. It won't go well for him then 😂
Looks like they wanted to monetize the quidditch game so thats why it wasn't in the legacy game
If the sequel goes live service I'm perfectly content with just the first game. NO thanks. A sequel should be able to played offline with no micro transactions and focus entirely on Hogwarts, no bloated. open world.
I will be honest I am not buying this directors cut if it’s a full priced game. They already lost a huge other console players because of that crappy DLC that they put out and trying to make people pay full price for.
we need to be able to attend classes and do homework. otherwise what's point of going to Hogwarts.
To skip classes and go adventuring. Wrf is wrong with you
Lol I’m trying to platinum hogwarts legacy atm
I tried but it’s tedious especially those repetitive Merlin puzzles
I literally just finished this game for the first time 5 hours ago, weird timing lol
You want live service. U want online
I just wanna be able to change seasons after the story, man...
-Make use of the common room more by having mini games such as Wizard Chess etc
-Choose your own background.
Unless it has online classes im gonna pass on it
I heard any plans for a sequel to hogwarts were scrapped?
Man, that Olivander guy picking you is like the best. I bet they are told "hey ever 10th time pick an adult" or something like that.
I know I'D be really happy if I got picked, and I'm 34.
Does anybody believe he's actually 6ft. ?
Does Luke know about the reboot Harry Potter series?
Prob not even real lol directors cut
"Hogwarts Legacy the biggest game of 2023" aka the game that nobody didnt talk/care abount since march 2023, nor it won any awards, besides "the most average game of 2023".
@@vault29a it made 1 billion and the best sold beating the likes of COD so i would say it is was the successful game of 2023
I would definitely like to see a HL2 do a Persona-style gameplay.
Perfect for seasonal content as well
If it is live service, then it's a major skip for me. I prefer offline games to games that require online connectivity like Elder Scrolls Online.
"shitting on others work even when it's not called for" and yet that is EXACTLY what you just did. Congratulations on being a literal waste of oxygen!
There’s a certain agenda the game pushes that really put me off of the game after a while. I still have the game and I’d rather destroy it than sell it and make money off of it or even give it someone for free for their kid to play for the same reason.
imagine building the theme park based on the works of the holocaust denier....
Idk wtf you’re playing on but ive literally never had a bug in hogwarts and never had stutter issues. I swear this dude be making shit up half the time😂😂😂
The game did have a memory leak at launch hade to buy some more ram went from 16 to 32gb , worked great after that tho.
Nope you were just lucky
@@blackvalio4060 none of my friends ever had bugs or stutter issues. This dude says shit just to say it. Maybe it did at launch but he literally said it still does. Which isnt true
