    @djmz1969 I was a child in the 1970's (thank God) and a teenager in the 1980's (thank God!), I'm completely and fully aware of how things went.
    I was into the New Wave and Electronic music happening in the late 70's and the turn of the 80's. I was into Hip Hop and Electro as soon as it hit. I was into Synth-Pop, Industrial, and Post-Punk in the mid-80's. I was into the earliest Chicago House and Detroit Techno when it hit in the later 80's. I've gone back and discovered the SPECTRUM of

    @TheLeetenant Best description of techno I ever heard (Probably specifically old 303 + 808+ 909 stuff) was a raspberry being squashed through a tennis racket.
    Such a good metaphor when you think about it!
    Luv this stuff...

    Not All True ,you had Luuomo's and Cheeks 1982 .Techno was picked up early especially on the College scene as well.You had the Bellville three playing , Jeff Mills was playing the Nectarine Ballroom in Ann Arbor and a host of DJ'S at the Outer limits at Mich State. This was 1983 -1984. I did not start really hearing "BANGIN" CHi Town tracks until 1982 or so. Juan atkins alleys of your mind was out in the early , early Eighties around the time of PLanet Rock in 1982.

    @djmz1969 Edinburgh Military Tatoo. German oompah music, Irish and English folk music, Country music, Scottish hymns...White/European music has an incredible influence on much of what is called "Black music". Classical music - even when without percussion - often has INCREDIBLE sense of rhythm and movement! Progressive Rock, and particularly German 'Kraut' Rock has such a massive influence on SO much dance music! Like I say, I could just run with this. Afro-centrists have a lot of bad nations

    @djmz1969 great music that was happening across those times, and earlier. I KNOW what I'm talking about! I'm a MAJOR music fan, major music head, and major record collector. I'm passionate about things, and have taken the time to learn and know about them.
    There was also great pioneering Electronic music happening here in Australia in the 1970's, Whirlywirld, Primitive Calculators, and the original Cybotron!
    It's clear you know you're wrong.
    I don't "wannabe" anything.

    @djmz1969 be it earlier classical and military music, or 20th century classical. Reggae also derives strong influence from British army marching band music. The Tamla-Motown songwriters borrowed HEAVILY and often from the European classical canon. African music, is often simplistic. Many of the sounds and styles in Africa, "Afro-Beat", themselves are inspired by modern American and European musical styles. Somuch modern music harks back to that Creole connection in New Orleans. Without

    If someone approaches it honestly and without an emotionally-held agenda, they'll see that African, European, and Latin cultures have had an enormous influence on the music we listen to in the West today. (That isn't to mention India and other cultures as well, in a lesser capacity.)

  • @Scotty-P
    @Scotty-P 13 лет назад

    @djmz1969 Interesting that you mention the Waltz, seeing as how the waltz rhythm is evident in much modern (meaning the last 100 years) music. Reggae, which is seen as being "African" music would not exist with the Western Swing that it derives from, and the Waltz music that informed that. If you were to talk to Derrick May, and other such Black Techno artists, they would not be backwards in gushing about the influence of European electronic music, and the classical music that originates in,

  • @Scotty-P
    @Scotty-P 13 лет назад

    @djmz1969 Many great drummers, including the great Fusion drummer Billy Cobham, learned their chops in marching bands. ALL marching band music comes directly from German and British military music. Much European classical, folk, and popular music down through the years has beats, great beats. It's funny that you're so obsessed with beats (not to say that beats aren't good, they are, but there's so much more!) because in a Mojo magazine interview Cee-Lo Green was crying out for different musics

    @djmz1969 to be played to younger kids now, so as to "save them from the beat"! Beats are good, and repetition can be great, but there's so much more.
    And both the complexities of music, and the beats, more often than not go back to Europe. Classical exists in many forms. So much of the electronics, soundscapes, techniques and beats, that are common in "modern" Dance music go back through White/European avant-garde artists...Brian Eno, Holger Czukay, Terry Riler, Steve Reich, and more.

    @MikeMcGantic That's true KRAFTWERK is pretty advanced but it didn't have the right dance infussion that did these three fellows. Kraftwerk is trully experimental but not danceable. We'll I didn't mean to say he solely did it but together with other artists came up with what we know as techno.

  • @Scotty-P
    @Scotty-P 13 лет назад

    @djmz1969 Hmmmm, not really. Whites/Europeans developed electricity and the technology being used, not to mention the formation of the music styles, from Kraftwerk on. The Japanese elaborated on some of the technology. Most of the rhythms and beats go back to German and British military music.

    @djmz1969 Whatever, I drums in a "concrete jungle" not violins in a stuck up concert hall. Don't get too twisted about it. European music has no beat, is music but has no beat.

  • @Scotty-P
    @Scotty-P 13 лет назад

    @djmz1969 Much great Disco music was made in Europe. Most post-Rock and Techno/post/Techno music would be IMPOSSIBLE without the metronomic beat of German groups such as NEU! and the cylindrical drumming of CAN. Like I said, go and listen to German/British/European military music. I suggest you start with the Swiss 'Top Secret Drum Corps', there's plenty of footage on RUclips, and then you'll hear BEATS! There's SO much to Music, don't forget!

    frankie knuckles was not involved in the creation of techno. however, defending the guy who said that, very early detroit techno (when it wasn't even called techno) was seen as a satellite genre of the chicago house movement. early techno tracks from detroit would be given to frankie knuckles and ron hardy to be tested at places like the music box. frankie never got into it and stuck with disco but the early techno was linked to the chicago scene. detroit's scene was nonexistent at the time.

    @djmz1969 White European classical music, Jazz - and it's many offshoots - would NOT exist. If you were to listen to solely African music, the pickings would be slim indeed. Original Hip Hop DJ's such as Afrika Bambaataa played, alongside the regular Funk/R&B/Disco/Soul, lots of Rock, and later German electronic music, and Punk. I could go on an ON with this! You don't think there's German or British military music in Techno and other such styles? Then you should watch and listen to the
