- Good day to everyone! I realized that I haven't uploaded any video lately since the pandemic. To make up to you guys, I decided to upload our competition piece during our recent dance competition. This piece is dedicated to God and by posting it here shows my intent of sharing this piece to everyone who is struggling throughout this year (filled with successive unfortunate events). This pandemic has brought us too much burden that it had taken so many precious lives and continues to do so as we are continuing this fight. This pandemic has also greatly affected our academic structure to shift from a face to face setting into an Online/Modular type of structure. The main plot of this video actually revolves around this concept "Online classes." This piece shows the struggle of every student right now during this crisis. Now, some may say that students complain too much about this online class thing but in my point of view as a student, I feel the students very well. All the backpains, eyestrains, less exercise (walking) due to the overflowing tasks to be completed leading to detrimental health effects, poor connectivity issues, financial deficits due to high electric bills and internet service cost, emotional challenges (depression), internal and external pressures, and the is worst is cases of suicide. This reality is happening right in front of us yet most prefer to be blinded from the truth. I prefer to see this truth and speak on behalf of the students through this piece. This piece is composed of three parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. Now let us dissect each part for further analysis.
Introduction (Up to the first Chorus):
The video starts with short clips of the students within their homes to show the struggles of online classes. The next short clips of these students wearing black (symbolism for negativity in this piece) shows the struggle that they feel within them. The chorus shows that the students are all wearing black to show the burden that they are carrying because of the sudden shift towards online learning. The students have to carry all this burden and accept the reality of the situation. Nonetheless, they have to continue with their studies to reach their aspirations in life.
Body (Up to the third pre-chorus):
The sudden transition towards the scene where a student was walking along the people in black with a candle basically portrays the lyrics from the song itself:
"Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me
Thy rod and thy staff"
The people wearing "all black" symbolizes a more negative context (the negativities that affect a large number of people to the extent of death). The candle light basically symbolizes hope or as defined by umich.edu "The candle symbolizes light in the darkness of life especially individual life, illumination; it is the symbol of holy illumination of the spirit of truth." The overall intent of the post-chorus part is to show that there is always hope in time of darkness such as in this pandemic. But most importantly, it is in the simple decisions the we make in our daily lives that we mold the reality of our future. For this piece, I chose to see the positive side of it. The chorus shows the two females wearing white (symbolism for positivity in this piece) and the rest wearing black. The two females' duo scene is a transition towards them wearing white. The two males' duo scene is also a transition as well towards them wearing white. The third pre-chorus serves as an evidence that the males' in black (negative) have transitioned into white (white) although only one male is only visible through his solo freestyle. This scene also serves as a transition of the last student from negative into positive.
Conclusion (Up to the outro):
The third chorus up to the outro is the finale. The students are all wearing white to symbolize positivity (hope). This is to signify that the students are doing their best despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought to them. The students chose to fight their battles accordingly. This pandemic will end soon.
I am truly thankful for the success of my vision turned into reality (the piece itself). This wouldn't be possible without the help of the people involved in the piece and these people as well: Pol Caluscusan, Mary Joy Violeta, Raul Kristian Lagare, Sophia Isabel Flores, Joash Arrogante, Eugene Aquino, and Batch Aumont.
