It actually makes me feel good that I learned most of these things on my own through so much trial and error and practice. all the new kids out there just starting out watching this probably don't understand just how helpful this video is lol but I did learn a couple things here too thank you so much Whanowa you're a legend.
I agree that learning by doing and finding stuff out for yourself is a good way of working. I've been doing it like this since I was a kid. And no, I'm not a legend. I'm just a regular guy struggling with life like everybody else.
I don't do a lot of smooth blending if it involves more than point a to point b. For now, that's how I avoid some of its problems - they don't kick in when I do that. I might have to experiment with longer clips though. As it is, I do quite action packed videos with a lot of changing camera angles.
I've been making films for 30 years and have just started making something with GTA V. The shots/scenes etc. I can get here would be impossible in real life, it's an incredible tool. Your videos are very well explained and have given me a bunch of inspiration, my movie is about to go up a level. Thanks.
moving all the markers to the left for faster scenes is such an essential tip it should have its own video. can't understand why smooth blend isn't WYSIWYG but here we are ;0
Even five years later this video is massively helpful. I've tried my hand at some various 'music videos', but I haven't tried any panning shots. This will really help me overcome some of the limitations I've run up against and had to work around in other ways.
"Rope" by Alfred Hitchcock is a great example of designing shots for cuts that give the impression of one long take. Thank you so much for your knowledge and time in making these tutorials. This is awesome stuff...
Just wanna come back go this video and say that my friend has been having me do the camera for his machinma's on his RUclips channel and that I've been using all of this.Very amazing tutorial.Thank you master whanowa!!!!
Even for me making r* editor videos for over 8 months. This tutorial is in depth and you explain perfectly. It helps me improve more as an editor! Great job man. It would be an honor to subscribe.
Thanks for your feedback, I'm always glad to help. I've got a lot more tutorials in my playlist and even more coming up in the future. If you like my content, share it with your friends or on social media. This would greatly help me :-)
I totally agree. Like you said, you have to play with the camera a bit. I learned a lot from watching your videos , as well as Duggy's, Bloodlust180, and a few others to work on my machinimas. Only thing is that I have a PS4, so it's kind of limited. But I make do with what I got. It's very fun indeed.
I think the smooth camera is shit. You can't have the camera follow the player and then move in front of the player because it just doesn't move in front. It's too slow. So please explain to me why it's so "good".
I think I gave plenty reason in the video why the smooth blend is good for your videos. A tool can only be as good as the person using it. There is a reason all big machinima creators use the smooth blend. As I said in the video it takes some practice to get the hang of it. If it's too slow you need to move the markers further left or move the camera further to compensate for the transitions between the markers. Admittedly it's nowhere near perfect but it's better than having a static camera or linear blend.
I love this and thanks. I always wondered why my smooth blend always looked a bit off. We need a good comprehensive tutorial for scene director like this. That is something thats really hard to work with.
Awesome. I have been using it on and off for a few months and there are not good tutorials to really help with it and setting everything up. Can't wait for it.
Ya or longer there is a lot of stuff to do. There are a lot of stuff I learned myself but the harder things like setting up a scene where actors do things and go to certain points of foot and with a car just escape me. my actors always end up in the middle of nowhere even with waypoints. Their cars also end up trashed lol.
This is such a great tutorial just as always ,I actually really needed help with action scenes and just plain walking scenes so it didn't look boring thank you master whanowa XD
first making mistakes and than watching this, to learn, whats the reason and solution for weird behaviour of the camera, helped me a lot . Thank you sir!
I also consider myself at the decent to low decent range, and I really appreciate the help this video has given me. It’s nice to see some aspiring talents in the comment section
You're welcome mate! It is annoying but the workaround is fairly easy. What's more annoying is the damn wiggle which can really ruin a clip if you don't have enough flesh.
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank Yoooooouuuuuuuuuu!!!! Working on a small clip episode 1 and have already rendered but for episode 2 I will have some knowledge and do my best. Awesome video and very helpful thank you.
Thanks! Definitely helped although hard to track vehicles at high speed, have to move the markers forward a lot more. I made a couple of my own cinematics using your tips, any change you could give feedback?

Same lol I had a computer class in HS but that was like 4 years ago I just have trouble with transition over new clips
Trial and error always helps but it’s always good to hear it from someone else the first time
This is THE most useful video that explains how to correct the smooth blend issues I've had.
bro the new kids dont know the struggles, i remember when i used to cut to the camera angle i wanted and it looked so bad, this was so helpful
For real bruv I tried this rockstar editor one time and it turned not well but wasent that bad at all

It always depends what you're going for. Some people wanna make long handheld oners and smooth blend is inevitable for that.
Crazy how much better the game looks with intense depth of field.
