I remember watching Ghostwatch when it was first broadcast. John Carpenter's The Fog was playing on another channel, and I kept flipping between the two because they were both freaking the piss out of me.

I was 10 or 11 when it came out and me and my sister were allowed to sit up and watch it. Like others we missed the disclaimer. We also missed the credits with the actors names at the end. It was tipped as a bit of light-hearted fun. And honestly, nothing since has terrified me like that show did. Slept with the lights on for weeks. 😂 Looks comical now, but back then nothing had been done like this before. No internet or youtube to pick it apart, no rewinding it to analyse parts (unless you taped it!), no texting your mates about it. Was just terror, silence and then your own thoughts at night to digest it. 😂

My mum and aunt were watching this live and is scared my aunt so much she threw up. Mum then bought the dvd when it came out and let me and my sister watch it when I was 8 and she was 6. I loved it even though it scared me shitless, I took it to all the sleepovers and my mum would get angry parents calling her for scaring their kids lol.

Great episode! I was 12 when this first aired, and my parents only let me watch the first half hour of it and it stayed with me for a long while. Finally got round to watching it all when I was in my mid 30s and can understand why now it distressed so many people! It definitely deserves the title of cult classic. I also remember Sarah Greene having to prove she was still alive on Saturday morning kids show going live as many kids had thought she had been trapped and killed by pipes the ghost!

Watched this live. Was 7 at the time. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Watched it again recently at 38. Not so much. But I still love the story surrounding it.

My best friends uncle (Stephen) wrote it and at my mates wedding the other day I talked his ear off about it. It’s awesome and I’m chuffed it’s getting it’s dues now. He wrote a show called Afterlife for ITV as well which was also genuinely scary, the guy doesn’t miss

Great watch as always Dudey! I think I've got an idea of how you first discovered Ghostwatch as it's probably the same way I discovered it...
Around 2003 Channel 4 aired a programme called The 100 Greatest Scary Moments. Although dated now, it was a fantastic countdown which provided any aspiring horror fans a great guide to scares they could seek out from television shows and films.
Ghostwatch I believe was number 41 on the show and features the clips you described to a tee.
I would recommended if you can find the countdown (which I am almost certain you will with a quick Google ;) to give it a watch - I think you will thoroughly enjoy it and perhaps you could even get some videos out of it for all your channels.

Watched Ghostwatch when it was broadcast. Mid 20's at the time and was alone in an isolated country cottage which added to the creepiness. Don't remember seeing a disclaimer at the start but began to doubt that it was real as show progressed. After the eldest daughter was shown to be faking the haunting I wasn't surprised but then when more happened and film indicated that she wasn't responsible I did begin to wonder if it was genuine after all. However the ending was so over the top I knew it was a spoof

I’m only a little way into this but as I can find the ‘this isn’t real’ disclaimer was actually when you called a number that came up on the screen, but because so many people were calling it hardly anyone got to hear it as the phone lines were jammed!

Ghostwatch was legit, a masterclass in horror writing. Steven Volk wrote a follow up script to it. Think Blair Witch was also inspired by it. Recommended.

There was more to this than just a prank television show. This was a psy-op or energy harvesting. I do not have a television and have not paid my licence fee for over 5 years. I watched it and it was definitely aimed at scaring the audience and at no point were any disclaimers given.
