I think it would be ok, maybe with a few modifications? She bends the ends in, and tapes the sides down, maybe covering the sharp parts of where the elastic feeds through would prevent it from stretching it properly though? Idk...
@@Tweeza57 perhaps, but they also make many items for sewing to help with sewing elastic. Might be easier than dealing with sharp aluminum edges if you can buy something for this purpose. As someone who sews professionally this would be time consuming to make was my point.
@@leteishaarrigo8586 don’t forget these videos are seen by people all over the world (proof is in the comments). Everyone may not have access to the other items that can be purchased, but most have access to soda cans.
@@sandywright-leonard5238 true, but the risk of cutting oneself using a soda can could be high. Is it worth taking that risk because so many people have access to internet and could probably find a video showing how to accomplish the sewing task without the can.
Sharp aluminum from cut soda cans can indeed slice you open. It’d be wise to wear protective gloves meant for such a purpose. I got thick leather gloves from the hardware store for that. I used to cut soda cans up to use the bottoms as polymer clay slump molds that support the clay in the oven until cured in that shape.
And uneven cutting WILL snag fabric and elastic....maybe not right away but after a few uses. Another user said sandpaper but it'd have to be EXTREMELY fine grit. AND need to be rechecked/remade often
to the elastic idea...nope...this is still relying on the seamstress to pull the elastic thru the machine at exactly the same rate in order to produce even gathers. Final measurement, beginning circumference and quarter marks have been doing this for decades...and I'm NOT going to put tape all over my machine so I have to clean that glue off later. All machines come with a foot that can be used for couching...recycle your cans and keep them away from the sewing machine whose guarantee you will void by messing with the feet....and the hair clip? Well, okay, but that's a different hobby.
I think the purpose of it was to keep the elastic in line with the needle so all you have to worry about is the speed you're pulling. Ik this can be achieved with pins but I think that's what they were going for.
Go back and watch her sew the first pass. She doesn't have to stretch it like you normally would when sewing elastic, as she did in the second pass. Plus the can is smoother than cardboard to flow over but no I wouldn't feel safe with the can.
If you consider the many hours it’s going to take to remove all that adhesive from your sewing machine it would’ve been easier just to stretch the elastic by hand.
A plastic bottle would probably work better....the sharp edges can be smoothed by a warm iron. I've done it to make holders for pens, brushes and more. Fun to decorate as well
I can't even begin to think this sharp aluminum is a good idea to use.
Bueno
Bueno te guardo

I agree.
It’s horrifying.
Wow zabardast sharing stay safe and healthy have a nice day
I can’t imagine going through all that work to use the soda can. I just sew it normally using my hands.
This girl probably could too - she is just giving a helping hand to those that aren’t that confident

Not to mention the bloodstains that I'd need to remove!
Сргоасна. Проще научиться нормально шить, чем так извращаться над машиной.
