    Announcing you are changing your game engine a month before launch is like saying you're almost done with your essay but you haven't even decided whether to use Word or Docs yet.

    • @gGg-pq6il

      I play games but know zero to nothing about development, and even I know that changing the game engine is not a red flag but it's literally showing that there's no real game in development... I wonder if this has happened with a successful game

    • @CTGReviews
      @CTGReviews 9 months ago +67

      At least when you're switching between those, you can just copy paste the essay over and keep working on it. Changing your game engine a month before launch is like not deciding if you're going to use a Mac or a PC to write your essay on.

Getting millions of views, being the most wishlisted game on steam etc etc etc Look how ambitious and cool gotovtsev brothers are!". Even advertising at local schools saying how cool is a job at gaming industry "FNTASTIC is looking for volunteers and YOU can start your career here". Like if you were at yakutsk around that time you would see the day before advertising EVERYWHERE even it makes you sick of it.
    But then when game miserably failed all the advertising about the game and FNTASTIC suddenly disappeared 👀 i wonder why

      People are dumb, silly, naive, paniky, gullible sheep and they have the memories of fruit flies. You would think that after so many game scams and early access fiascos gamers would learn this simple lesson:
      Wait until a game releases and see the reviews THEN make up your mind if it is worth a buy. I mean, even after the plagiarism accusations, which were very obvious, people were still keeping faith that it may be a good game...
      What a fucking shit show!

Check. After getting burned by Ubisoft, Gearbox, EA and Bethesda with their AAA budgets and experienced devs, how did anyone seriously think that some random mobile game studio is gonna make the biggest game of the year?

      Even worse, they're enforcing fines (yes, monetary fines) to employees who make mistakes within the company. So not only are they not paying staff, they're making the staff pay them to keep working (only payment here I assume is just credit/reference on their resume). It's so unethical I'm amazed people didn't talk about it more.

      The staff had no choice because to many, this were their first job, they thought they could make it work.

      It's a tale as old as time. It happens every other year and people jump into hype trains without giving anything a second thought. Hell, I always think twice before purchasing any big AAA title even from renowned publishers and companies, and that's only after watching real gameplay and reading reviews after launch. I don't get the point of investing money into something shady just because the promises are good.

      Promising the people something that is "handmade" and had the developers "blood sweat and tears" put into it without making any of thier own assets and just making what is basically a pre-made game is a steal I'd say.

      @henrynelson9301 Year ago +4

      They plagiarized other games and movies in the trailers, but the assets in the finished game weren’t stolen, they were bought. Buying assets isn’t illegal. Relying on them while not knowing what you’re doing and marketing your game as a AAA that you’ve been working on for 5 years and literally saying this isn’t an asset flip is still really bad and misleading tho.

    I think that another reason that zombie games are so prevalent is that they don't need a very sophisticated ai. Or, more accurately, it's easier to program an enemy that has few directives (wander, chase, attack) than an enemy that should be doing much, much more, e.g. analyze battlefield, seize the initiative or employ non-trivial moves. The difference is even wider if you have the survival aspect, where zombies can just stand in one place and wait for a player to discover, but more human-like npcs need to show some semblance of actually living in the game world

  • @Narokkurai
    @Narokkurai Year ago +264

    One major consequence of the mass layoffs in the gaming industry, is now you've got a lot of artists and animators with real experience looking for work. It means you can pay an animator to do a mock-up for your game for cheap, and then turn around and present that mock-up as the product itself.

      those who got fired did it because they were doing nothing.

    • @Narokkurai
      @Narokkurai Year ago +18

      @kelso7206 A lot of people get laid off because they were hired for a project that almost immediately fell apart, or were kept on from a previous project to develop the sequel that got cancelled or lost funding. In both cases, it's common for the staff involved to be left with literally nothing to do for months while management tries to figure out what to do. That doesn't mean they aren't competent.

    • @kelso7206
      @kelso7206 Year ago +2

      @Narokkurai That's the most widely spread consensus of why those in the gaming industry got fired but I have a more cynical way to see the layoffs, although I don't disagree with the thought that some of them were competent.

    • @Narokkurai
      @Narokkurai Year ago +9

      @kelso7206 Cynicism is easy. I always try to follow the 10-80-10 rule: for any given group of people, 10% will be exceptionally bad, 10% will be exceptionally good, and the other 80% will just be normal--not great, nor terrible.

    I really feel bad for the employees who were abused by these 2 brothers. Seeing people grouping them with these 2 scammers and branding them as scam artists hurts.
    There's another side story to these employees. Like this video said, they were fresh new-graduates employed from areas with next to no jobs. They had no choice but to try and make the best of what was given. This was their first job. And these 2 brothers knew exactly that.
    They were underpaid (some had to work for credit, which is BS in my book), forced to work overtime. Not to mention the brothers enforce monetary fines should they do something wrong.
    Please do not belittle these poor people who were being abused and exploited. The 2 brothers at the top, travelling, living like kings, spending 300k a week are the real bastards here. They lied to their customer's face and forced their underpaid employees to make those lies a reality, which was obviously impossible. Then they went into hiding and make the rest handle the raging mob on release day.
    The brothers are cowards, like all cruel men.

    Man.... I've never watched a video from your channel before, just saw a recommendation today, and came over to watch this analysis of "The Day Before". I'm not even 5 minutes into the video, and I'm already dropping a thumbs up just because of your editing skills. Being a graphic designer for a living and videomaker myself, I can tell how much effort was put into editing all this. Much respect.
    Keep up the good work.
    Now, off to watch the rest of the video.
