Owning the exact blue dial DJ, I may be biased, but, I don't find it boring. Rather, simple, classic, versatile, reliable and, largely, under the radar for a Rolex. Surprised you didn't mention that it's well under 41mm as well. Why they call it a 41, I don't know. It's a bit under 40mm, which to me, was a huge plus when I finally got to try one of these on. 41mm would be too big for this. Agree, though, even smaller would be even better.
the fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet variant is arguably the no.1 most iconic luxury watch EVER. your grand dad had one, your dad had one. way more recognizable as a Rolex than a Sub or a Daytona for "normal" people.
My grail watch is my 1st Rolex. I bought it January of this year to celebrate my 40th birthday. The Datejust, for me, has always been about its class. It’s timeless design. It’s history. Surprising you totally left out the history of this model. What this model represents within the watch community. That is such an important distinction. You shortchanged this model.
My dad has a Datejust II, which only comes with an Oyster bracelet… so for me, the fluted bezel is the only distinctive characteristic of Rolex watches
Its strength is that it's subtle. It doesn't attract the wrong attention. It's timeless and classy. You know what's on your wrist and that's all you need.
I think the jubilee is too flashy but the smooth bezel is too boring. I ended up getting a DJ41 with the two-tone oyster bracelet and a fluted bezel. I know most people hate that configuration but for me personally, I never have to dress formally for work (jeans + polo) and rarely ever have to dress fancy for anything. The jubilee would be way too dressy for casual events / work, so I think it's perfect for me. Best part is it's still dressy enough to wear if I do go full formal for anything. It's basically a highly-versatile watch. Jubilee + smooth bezel is the only "terrible" combo if you ask me. But at the end of the day, you wear what you like. Who cares what anyone else thinks?
I love how basic and boring the DateJust is. It’s what makes it a classic. Often copied, it’s the style I grew up seeing on the wrist of my teachers, baseball coach, dentist, uncle...etc. It hits my nostalgia nerve. Always will be a classic.
If you think these are boring, I’d love to hear your opinion of the OP, Explorer, or Air King. The DJ is arguably the most iconic Rolex out there, with the possible exception of the Sub. And the most interesting part of the DJ is the variety of models that actually look different. As opposed to other model whose references look nearly identical to each other.
@@vinceliardi1662 This simply isn't true. I wouldn't even say the Datejust is the second most iconic watch. I don't even think it makes the top 3, and if it does, it just barely makes it. The most iconic model is the Submariner, second most iconic is the Daytona, the third most iconic, on a GOOD day, would be a tie between the Explorer and the Datejust. The GMT also fights for that position. The Datejust is incredibly one dimensional. You dress it up, and that's it. You're not wearing it outside of the office whereas all the other watches mentioned can be worn casually. The Explorer is ready for anything, the Submariner is ready for anything, the GMT is ready for anything. My uncle is a doctor and owns many Luxury watches across many brands. He owned a Datejust but sold it for his GMT back when you could buy one for $6,000 because he couldn't wear the Datejust outside of the clinic whereas the GMT is a watch he wears every day. Also, a personal problem I have with the Datejust is the price. Many people agree the domed bezel and oyster bracelet look way too unattractive and have no personality, the price starts at $8,000. Instead, you have to go for the jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. The problem is that this costs $10,000, and you're in the Submariner territory now in terms of price...! Again, not a bad watch by any means, but these are reasons the Datejust sits at ADs unless you have the perfect configuration.
I must disagree with you about the Datejust 41 being just for dressy wear. I have this watch for 5 years now and have worn it either business casual or with a T-shirt and Polo shirt. That's what's so great about Rolex. They are versatile. Also, you define your personal style. So , it's whatever you are comfortable with. I have the Batman GMT Master ii on Jubilee too and with that bracelet, it makes the watch more elegant but it still can be worn for sporty occasions, in my opinion.
I found out that watches others tend to find boring, are my sweet spot 😂 I prefer to call them timeless. Whenever I buy a watch,I ask myself if I would like it in 20+ years as well. Only when the answer is yes, I'll go for it. I ordered it in Rhodium (more versatile than blue regarding my wardrobe), with Jubilee and smooth bezel. The fluted bezel would be too much for me on the 41mm version, I will probably buy a vintage 36mm version with fluted bezel in the future.
Great hook in the title!😉 I’ve seen a few of your vids so it went in exactly the direction I was expecting. But who cares; your content is always very well put together and entertaining, so thanks!
People say it's boring, but it's actually the perfect watch in this configuration. That's why it's boring. Anything added or taken out (such as a dive or gmt bezel) would swing the aesthetic into subjective territory.
Great video man. May ask if you’d ever consider telling me how you eq and compress the audio of your voice for such clarity and great sound? I’ve had my RUclips channel for years now and I still wish my sound was clearer. Thanks!
How many more links could you have removed (asking for both jubilee and oyster bracelets)? Me with my quite small 6 inch wrist has some trouble sometimes with some bracelets.
I have the same white DJ41 with fluted bezel. Love it!!! I contemplated it with the blue and silver dial, because their sunburst pattern is so beautiful. I decided to go with plain white, because the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet is so extravagant. I'll probably be getting a blue or silver dial OP in 36 to get that itch out haha.
It really is an outstanding combo, understated coo/classyl. I actually think it’s the best white dial on steel look although I would get the oyster bracelet and have the shiny bit made brushed
I love my DJ41- granted its got a fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet and a blue dial, but having owned watches even from niche, higher or even other "big hitter" brands, I can confidently say that my DJ 41 is still the one true grail I love wearing! Love the fit, feel , date complication and the dial. looking at it still makes me smile and admire it even after nearly 4 years of ownership!
The Datejust is an icon that transcend era. Arguable this watch is one of the most known watch in the world and has a formidable heritage . Love this model
I just picked up my 126300 with the green dial today and it's just spectacular! I took it with jubilee bracelet and without the fluted bezzel. It just suit my character better than those ''screaming" rolexes you are talking about. The quality is perfect, they are not too "flashy" but still they feel special. Thanks for the cool video and greetings from Switzerland!
I have the 2022 smooth bezel black dial on jubilee and I have to say I think it’s better than the fluted options. It has platinum pressie vibes and I have not been bored for one second while wearing it
Just had a few variations in my hands today and they are stunning. Loved the fluted bezel version with steel and gold bracelet that is super comfy like the new speedy. I think people need to see and try one on yourself.
Oyster Perpetual is more boring if you want to go that way, it’s is plainer and cannot be designed to your specification like a DJ …which is far from boring.
I like the look of the DJ 41 because I have a larger wrist and prefer to have a design of watch that isn’t the most interesting thing about me - or likely to get me mugged :) Still, nice angle, but I don’t agree that it’s boring, but like you say it’s subjective and each to their own.
The Datejust 36mm on the other hand... ❤️ 😁 The great thing about the DJ is: there is one for everyone: Going back through the decades, the possible configurations are endless. Mine would be: 36mm Silver Tuxedo (w/ fluted bezel, roulette date disc, jubilee). Great video as always!
My first luxury watch I bought new in 1994 was a ROLEX Datejust blue face, stick, smooth bezel on a jubilee bracelet. The biggest Datejust made back then was 36mm. To me it’s the classic watch, to be worn with a suit or on the golf course. Perfect watch.
What I see when I look at the oyster bracelet and smooth case is an oyster on the bottom of the sea encasing a precious pearl inside of it, like you'd expect to find this watch as a treasure in the sand years after a shipwreck, intact. So to me it looks like a practical marine watch, where the dial is the only thing meant to draw your attention.
When I saw this video pop up I was like “oh a DJ video, pass”. But you hit this one on the mark. You comments/satire were hilarious and spot on. “nature is healing”. Amazing
Couldn’t agree more. Stunning combo! The fluted bezel can detract from the jubilee and also just makes the whole watch scream, unless that’s what you’re looking for.
Love my DJ41 white dial, jubilee, stick dial w/fluted bezel. The bezel makes it more of a standout IMO. The blue dial, oyster, smooth bezel is a low key daily that doesn’t attract too much attention. Boring? No. Classic.
would love to see a vid comparing the 36 and 41 on your wrist. Sounds like you prefer the 36 although you could pull off the 41. I also have 18cm wrists and think the 36 is perfect
@@Nathan.W1696 my wrist size is 18.5cm Anything bigger than 39mm is just too big for my taste. For me a lot depends on lug to lug size and dial color. For example my everyday watch is Day-date 36mm with silver dial. Even though the watch is 36mm it appears more like 37-38 on my wrist. Wore Datejust 41 for a week, it just doesn’t feel right.
You’re right about the end link tolerances. They’re impeccable. The end links on the Omega Globemaster can be pretty horrible. I had to hammer them before I got a satisfactory fit.
I absolutely love the cyclops, especially when you have poor eyesight I do not think it takes away or detract from the watch whatsoever! The stainless steel blue dial watch is not boring at all. It's gorgeous and I'm staring at it all the time. Very interesting for me to look at it.
The one on oyster is sporty but, in that configuration, I'd rather have the Aqua Terra. However, with a Jubilee it sings. I have the 126300 on jubilee and its perfect and boring. Perfect to me because I want some bling in a watch and I'm not afraid to admit it. I considered there to be 3 elements of bling 1. size (41 over 36) 2. fluted bezel and 3. jubilee bracelet. A fourth category could be dial (I really do enjoy Roman numerals). For me the sweet spot is 2 flashy elements. And that's what I wear.
Wow I feel exactly the same way and have broken down the blingy elements like that too. I’ve decided on the 41 with white dial, smooth bezel and jubilee. The jubilee is all the bling I need for a daily wearer. The fluted bezel while absolutely beautiful becomes too much in addition to the jubilee IMO for a GADA kind of watch. If I went fluted I’d have to go oyster and the oyster really doesn’t do it for me on this watch.
I really want this exact blue dial Datejust , I’m going to talk to my AD , but I’m so eager to get it I’m looking to just go to the grey market and making it happen
when I was younger and Rolex was mentioned, I always thought of an all Gold Datejust with a Green Dial, stick markers, fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet. To me, that is The Rolex watch.
I love the boringness of my DJ. A boring watch will never drive you crazy. It’s like cereals for breakfast, fckng boring but will never fck you up and now, there so many much more beautiful watches outside, but I will never change.
Watching this while wearing my 34mm op. Even though i looked at more interesting watches but this watch will be a timeless piece that will be appreciated overtime.
DJ 41 is the perfect watch, in most of its configurations. Some might see it as boring, but it's simplicity and classy styling make it a timeless classic
Sorry have to disagree with you. I have the same white one you have in the video. It is one of the most beautiful watches and it excites me every time I wear it. It is the ultimate classic Rolex! That white face, with the simple bezel and that jubilee bracelet…ufffff…just gorgeous!
Add a fluted bezel onto the Datejust 41 with oyster steel bracelet with a blue index, and you have the nicest daily driver for all occasions hands down!!
Alas, fluted bezel and jubilee is the only way to go for the Datejust IMO. 36-40MM is the classic sweet spot for most men I'd say. And that seems to be mine too, but I'll sometimes rock a 41mm, but that's as big as I'll go unless it's a G-Shock. Currently been rocking a 34mm TAG F1 from the 1990s, and enjoying it!
I never thought I'd see a Rolex review that was this matter-of-factly honest. Thank you. My only point of contention is that the OP, which is nearly identical save for the goofy cyclops, is even more boring.
Im relatively new to watches. My background is mainly in electronics and hobby level woodworking, so I have a pretty good understanding of technology and evolution oaf manufacturing processes. The fact that mechanical watches still exist blows my mind. To pay the price of a car for a wrist watch and be expected to have it serviced for hundreds of dollars perpetually is insane. I think its time Rolex and other "luxury" brands started utilizing quartz movements. Mechanical watches in the modern day are just a way to keep the cost of the item high.
Why should people craft things in wood? It's easier to just mass produce items from plastics that are cheaper and more durable. We can even 3D print at home now. There's no reason for people to acquire crafted wood products, it's just a reason to charge more for them...
I'd prefer to call these as having an understated elegance and quality. Worn by those recognising the impressive performance, accuracy, finishing (for a mass-produced watch) and a brand wrapped in decades of heritage and expertise.
I'm OK with the 41mm size (though I prefer the DJ 36 or even the OP 34), but to me that shiny mirror-poished bezel looks awfully large. Very weird looking. And when you open the clasp - that's the reminder of another flaw (to me at least): it's designed as it would split in two parts with the flip-lock but it actually does not. It's one piece although it has a weird kind of cut down the crown... nice video as always though!
Yes, the bezel is too wide. I think that’s because they made the bezel able to be swapped with the fluted so they only need one case for two references.
Interesting take, and I agree the smooth bezel dj 41 with stick hour markers are the most boring Rolex. But great daily drivers. Tough to find a more versatile, accurate and well made watch. And there is nothing boring about my two tone Wimbledon dial DJ 41 with fluted bezel. That watch has a ton of character and at this point in my life is probably the watch in my collection most reflective of my personal style. I think there are many other very interesting and unique DJ combinations as well. I also have a white gold fluted bezel dj41 with white dial and white gold Roman numerals, it's definitely not boring either.
I chose the blue Datejust the one i looked at was a blue dial with fluted bezel white gold , cost had to figure in i went with the one you showed , boring but a Rolex , i just started my Rolex delay .
Since you know a lot about what watch collectors think… You didn’t mention the fact that there’s quite a few problems with the 3235 movement. It goes under the radar but try asking some watchmakers.
Yes. I like the watches, but raised just this concern earlier in the comments. I have also asked similarly on other RUclips Watch reviews of these Rolexes. But as before. No one seems to know if it's been fixed, other than the comment that you can send it back under warranty for a relubrication etc. That's all very well. But anecdotal evidence indicates the issue affects a number of 2019,20 and 2021 watches. So I just wanted to understand..... If I buy a 2022 or more likely 2023 model (with the wait lists). Is this fixed or will I be sending it back numerous times a year on?
Maybe boring. However, if you you look for the high quality elements in a more subtle package, the DJ41 is hard to beat in value for money (at retail price of course)

I love your videos so much.
I received my Datejust 41mm126300 blue dial , 10/17/23 from AD, happy to own this watch, retail price great value , first Rolex thanks for the vid,
Fluted Bezel is the only way to go with the Datejust 41
It depends on the dial.
Really wanted the blue face one with the oyster bracelet and smooth bezel, now I kinda don't want it anymore lol
Wow, the white smooth dial on jubilee looks amazing imo!
On the list for a 36mm DJ mint green dial, fluted bezel on jubilee bracelet. Can’t wait!!
I have a 126331. Chocolate dial, ever rose gold, jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. One of the nicest and not boring watches I’ve ever seen
I actually have both (though my white dial has fluted bezel) and I love them both! They’re classic and they make me feel fulfilled.
I love the boringness of my DJ. A boring watch will never drive you crazy. It’s like cereals for breakfast, fckng boring but will never fck you up and now, there so many much more beautiful watches outside, but I will never change.
The only one to get, leave the rest to the hype. A watch to watch. No more, no less.
Movement is new too. The different configurations are beautiful.
White dial, oyster bracelet DJ 41 is the sportiest DJ. It’s got that late 1980s Ford Escort XR3i vibe.
Datejjust is a classic and never go out of style, thanks 👍❤️🏴
Sorry have to disagree with you. I have the same white one you have in the video. It is one of the most beautiful watches and it excites me every time I wear it. It is the ultimate classic Rolex! That white face, with the simple bezel and that jubilee bracelet…ufffff…just gorgeous!
Add a fluted bezel onto the Datejust 41 with oyster steel bracelet with a blue index, and you have the nicest daily driver for all occasions hands down!!
White 41 with the Roman numerals, Julian bracelet and the gold bezel is beautiful.
I've always thought the fluted bezel screams HEY, I AM A ROLEX LOOK AT ME!
The Jubilee and domed bezel combo is stunning. Jubilee with fluted too busy IMO.
Nice video, thanks
I never thought I'd see a Rolex review that was this matter-of-factly honest. Thank you. My only point of contention is that the OP, which is nearly identical save for the goofy cyclops, is even more boring.
I think the OP has better color options.
One man's "boring" is another man's "classic" or "timeless"
I'm trying to convince my wife to think that way about me. _Trying_.
I think the best way to describe it…a normal watch that just happens to be made by Rolex
Great video dude
I'd prefer to call these as having an understated elegance and quality. Worn by those recognising the impressive performance, accuracy, finishing (for a mass-produced watch) and a brand wrapped in decades of heritage and expertise.
Well said.
It’s not the most boring. You don’t need a sport with tons of diamonds. This is class.
Any store that sells used Rolex has a huge inventory of Datejust. That tells you all you need to know
I'm OK with the 41mm size (though I prefer the DJ 36 or even the OP 34), but to me that shiny mirror-poished bezel looks awfully large.
I think the clasp is two pieces and the joint bends slightly at that point to open the clasp. It's just not a fliplock like the sports watches.
im glad how many people are persuade to buy a seiko these few years so i can get a DJ41 from AD
Love a Crisp White Dial 😍. It‘s so spory and classy at the Same Time. But for sure with fluted Bezel.
I'm Jones'n for one! Classic, clean, not loud
Isn't the OP the most boring Rolex? Or it specifically that 41 mm is a boring size?
I love the oystersteel black dial
It's fitting that you recorded this wearing a brown cardigan, the most boring practical item of clothing. Love the DJ and your cardie
I must say that Jubilee bracelet looks absolutely stunning and quality
It so hard to buy a Rolex on retail price the second hand market cost double or triple for a entry level datejust.
Just FYI, DJ41 not even close to 41mm, outer edges of bezel measure 39.2mm.
I chose the blue Datejust the one i looked at was a blue dial with fluted bezel white gold , cost had to figure in i went with the one you showed , boring but a Rolex , i just started my Rolex delay .
I have this model with silver dial….I love it
This is exactly what makes this watch enjoyable for future generations to come..
I really like the fact it’s simple without standout..
