    I'm confused. For the な-adjectives, why is there だ in parentheses instead of な, in the lesson box on the right? Shouldn't it be な?

      Thanks for the good question. You are correct even though it is "na". But when you make it into a sentence, you use da, as in she's pretty. (かのじょは、きれいだ) We can't say かのじょは、きれいな。Therefore, we use (da) here for clarity. She is pretty. (かのじょは きれいだ)She is not pretty. (かのじょはきれいじゃない)She was pretty. (かのじょは きれいだった)She was not pretty. (かのじょはきれいじゃなかった)It is like this.

      @user-vd7fg4ll2w Used to modify a noun. きれい【な】ひと(beautiful person),しんせつ【な】ひと(kind person)
