I don’t think he was holding back. The only way to succeed was to fight w killing intent. Lelouch had all of his best forces in this battle, the Avalon, the nation representatives, and depended on Nina to create a fleiya neutralizing device.

All that was needed for him to implement Zero Requiem was for Suzaku to survive, for Schneizel to be defeated and for the nuke platform to be captured.

WOW. So on one hand they had a cold hearted strategist like Schneizel, tactical geniuses like Todoh and Li Xingke, ace pilots like Kallen, Knights of Rounds, Four Holy Swords and on the other hand they had Lelouch, Orange boy, Suzaku and geassed soldiers and YET Lelouch won.
This is pretty late I know, but Lelouch’s side had unyielding loyalty willing to do anything because of the geass used on them(referred to at 3:02) kind of like a buff to each person on his side. Schneizel was winning the battle until Lelouch used the Sakuradite plan which even then he still was in a better position than Lelouch. His ultimate downfall was trying to eliminate the black knights along with Lelouch to kill two birds with one stone versus actually coordinating with them more so than he did
The literal reason why schenizel had ever even won against lelouch was because he (lelouch) didnt want to sacrifice his forces the moment he did schenizel had aldready lost (from what I have seen lelouch has higher EQ and IQ than schenizel since they are both interelated and schenizel is literally empty)

I just love how everyone changes side. Like in the first ep you would of never thought that the black nights would Ally with schnitzel. Or how Lelouch would Ally with Lloyd and suzaku.
Yet it is actually very realistic , in Napoleonic war for exemple Bernadotte who was initially one of Napoleons Marshall ended up prince of Sweden and fought him in the final battle ( Battle of the Nations , I say final because after this Napoleon has no longer any chance to win ).
Lelouch’s ultimate power is not his geass but his buttons. Topple an entire settlement with a press of a button, blow up a volcano with a button, he could’ve even revived himself with a button but he forgot you can’t press an button if you’re already dead

honestly I always found it ridiculous how quickly they betrayed Lelouch They where literally told by their enemy that their Leader used magic powers but had otherwise done exactly what he said he would do for them and they just buy it...
It's ironic, at the end of season 1 Suzaku and Jeremiah were both hellbent on killing Zero and pursued him to the island. At the end of season 2 those same two are the only fighters loyal to him while everyone else is trying kill him.

When you think about it lelouch's victory is even more impressive. Schneizel had kalen, general todoh, xing ke, the 2 knights of round and the fleya/damocles. Meanwhile lelouch pretty much only had suzaku and maybe jeremiah. The regular units on each side were mostly fother so they don't really count. I don't think schneizel would win this in a million years in lelouch's position here.
Andrei Marian The thing about schneizel is that he's not willing to take risks. He's very smart, just not willing to take risks to improve his position further. Lelouch isn't as smart as schneizel imo, but his willingness to take risks to improve his position is what led to his victory.
This battle is intresting on so many levels; On a strategic level Lelouch and Schneizel both showcases their brilliance before the first shots are even fired. On a geo political level Lelouch just blew up one of the largest sakuradite meaning knightmare full will be further limited meaning future conflicts will be more risky (or just out right undesirable) because of logistics and economics. From a tactical standpoint Schneizel using the Black Knights as the first wave was brilliant as I imagine he planned to turn on them once he had defeated Lelouch, the enemy of my enemy dies second after all. It's also intresting that Lelouch uses so many Geassed soldier, both giving the Black Knights an example of what it would have been like of he had geassed them (Though none of them seemed to realises) while simultaneously depleting Britannias armies so they are less likely to wage war in the future.
In the manga, Lelouch thought that a weapon could only destroy a weapon and shield vs shield. So he planned to make a weapon against the fleija and use Shinkiro's shield against the Blaze luminous.
Suzaku managed to destroy the remaining Knights of round, inclding the N°1, so he is a veeeeeeeeeeery good pilot. and no say on jeremiah. it's like he has two Queens of Chess.

Schnitzel and the Black Knights sure has Luluoch beat in terms of super weapons and amount of aces. Just wanted to point out that Jeremia actually had a pretty good KF, while there is CC with the Lancelot Conquista + Suzaku's Lancelot Albion.
If they understood how Lelouch worked, they would have known that he was more about results than body counts. Lelouch always fought his battles by completing one task at a time, which almost never required the complete annihilation of enemy forces. If not for that oversight, the Black Knights (and Schneizel, for that matter) would have concentrated even more on defending the already beefed-up Damocles than on attacking the Avalon or even fighting the Lancelot. Even if Lelouch was able to counter the FLEIJA, he would have had a harder time storming the Damocles if certain units were devoted to defending the one opening in the shield. But, I guess that hindsight is always 20/20.

The scene is wonderful, it shows the black knights what actually it is like to be under the influence of a geass, showing them that they could never betray them how they did if they were actually mind controlled.
I would give Kallen a break, though. She was the only one of the Black Knights who at least tried to understand what Lelouch was after first. It might have been just because she liked him, but since she was closer to Lelouch than the rest of them aside from C.C., Kallen knew there was more to the story than just mind control, fraud, or some crap. She only decided to fight him because he wouldn't give her a reason to stay by his side, and she still wanted to free Japan. That, in my opinion, was an intelligent choice. The rest of them were just trash, not so much for betraying Lelouch after seeing evidence against him, but for siding with Schneizel (knowing that he couldn't be trusted) without any real plan for opposing him after Lelouch was defeated.

Something I don't see a lot of people mentioning is how you can see the background units being upgraded throughout the show. Back in season 1 the hadron cannon was state of the art. now every unit has one.
Lelouch made a tactical mistake in 1:44 What Schneizel seemed to be doing was what in history is called a bull-horn formation. This was the primary tactic that Zulu warriors used against enemy tribes under the rule of Shaka, needless to say this made the Zulu the mightiest empire of Africa in the time(until the British came in). The tactic consists of dividing the Army into four different sections. It’s called that way because it is said that when Shaka invented this formation, he based this tactic of the face and body of a bull, thus when we draw his formation in paper, the initial formation does look like a bull. The main forces(or the “chest” are centered like in conventional warfare and to head directly into the enemy’s troops. The flank(or the “horns”) are to surround the enemy while they’re busy fighting the chest. Once surrounded, the horns will close the distance and the enemy will be attacked from all directions without relying on Guerrila Warfare. The reserve forces(or the “loins”) are to remain behind the chest as backup if something goes wrong. Schneizel did great employing this technique in mid combat against Lelouch this safely, especially knowing how Lelouch would respond. Still, Lelouch had three different moves to play, and one of them . The most common and safe response to Schneizel’s(or rather Shaka’s) tactic is to temporarily retreat until the horns are in disarray and then attack the center. The other two are just my ideas, and I’m no military strategist, I just gave an example of a historical countermeasure that has worked on the past, considered viable since Lelouch did see on time what Schneizel was doing. The second option is a tactical, a reorganization where the main forces are concentrated in one flank while the secondary forces are distracting the rest of the enemy. Simple yet effective, at least to Frederick the Great; However, the success of this tactic relies on the enemy not knowing when’s going to be deployed, and Lelouch already used something similar, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Schneizel had something planned if Lelouch did that. The third option is the Hammer and Anvil tactic. This formation is very similar to the bull horn formation, but in this case, the main goal is to move your forces behind the enemy force, thus forcing them to focus their fight in two fronts henceforth weakening them. Since Lelouch saw this, he could’ve easily ordered a detachment of his forces to sneak up Schneizel’s unit while he take Schneizel head on, that way, even if the main forces are concentrate, the army will weaken, which in turn mean victory.
TheMegaUzumaki it seems like Lelouch used that as a last resort, but then again: anything else would just drag out the battle or even mess up his victory
@@aname4141 A prolonged battle was exactly what Lelouch wanted, after all his troops are pawns to him, and he needed to buy time for Nina. Also if the BK didn't fight as well as he did Lelouch would've been able to retreat far enough for A. the enemy forces to be directly above his ground troops which would allow more AA, and B. He could of waited to use Fuji until the Damocles was right above it, I mean I'm no expert but that sudden explosion would probably take out the Fleja launch tube and damage other systems, but it likely wouldn't destroy it outright, allowing Lelouch to retrieve Nunally.

And that means he had to pressure it so he couldn't retreat or Deamochlaes could get some extra time and as we saw every second mattered.
It just tells us that even you have Sky Fortress with almost indestructible shield, huge army combined with elite and ace pilots, and a freaking nuke. You just need Spinzaku who defies the law of physics, Orange the half man, half robot and his hundred percent loyalty, a sociopathic guy, a secretary who can do almost anything, a lesbian who raped a table, bunch of throwaway soldiers, and the biggest Siscon in the series to win a world war.
Now I know why they decided to kill rolo with him in lelouch's side at the final battle even the guren and the knights of rounds will easily be destroyed the only thing that can stop him is jeremiah who is also on their side and then suzaku and jeremiah will clean off the rest
Rolo is just too OP for Black Knights even with the heart stopping nerf, And it shows how naive Black Knights have become and lelouch showing them what could have they been if he geass all of them
Schneizel was more of a "light yagami" type character because 1. They both addressed themselves as a god 2. Smart 3. Intelligent af 4. weren't effected by the deaths of their own dads (light was...but not at all..maybe) 5. Were ready to kill their sisters 6. Cocky af 7. Didn't have feelings...were consumed by themselves 8. Faced tough situations with calmness
I agree Schneizel is more like Light then Lelouche is. The main similarity that pretty much drives their character that Lelouche doesn't have is that they have the perfect life and they are bored with it. Lelouche is more driven by what he and his sister went through. I see Light and Schneizel as similar characters.

Also remember the logistics in war also matter like oil resources and ammunition even they have good strategy resources still matters. Remember Battle of the Bulge, German plan was fast offensive, or pincer attack but they failed since they lack of resources also they lack of numbers and allied force have more numbers yet get always getting smashed

A fact a lot of people are missing here is that lelouch is fighting with a *weaken* Britannia military as he doesn’t have the knights of round and he dismantled Britannia culture and killed off the nobles who could have provided troops and gear.

When you think about it lelouch's victory is even more impressive. Schneizel had kalen, general todoh, xing ke, the 2 knights of round and the fleya/damocles. Meanwhile lelouch pretty much only had suzaku and maybe jeremiah. The regular units on each side were mostly fother so they don't really count. I don't think schneizel would win this in a million years in lelouch's position here.
Andrei Marian The thing about schneizel is that he's not willing to take risks. He's very smart, just not willing to take risks to improve his position further. Lelouch isn't as smart as schneizel imo, but his willingness to take risks to improve his position is what led to his victory.

This battle is intresting on so many levels;
On a strategic level Lelouch and Schneizel both showcases their brilliance before the first shots are even fired.
On a geo political level Lelouch just blew up one of the largest sakuradite meaning knightmare full will be further limited meaning future conflicts will be more risky (or just out right undesirable) because of logistics and economics.
From a tactical standpoint Schneizel using the Black Knights as the first wave was brilliant as I imagine he planned to turn on them once he had defeated Lelouch, the enemy of my enemy dies second after all.
It's also intresting that Lelouch uses so many Geassed soldier, both giving the Black Knights an example of what it would have been like of he had geassed them (Though none of them seemed to realises) while simultaneously depleting Britannias armies so they are less likely to wage war in the future.

Schnitzel and the Black Knights sure has Luluoch beat in terms of super weapons and amount of aces. Just wanted to point out that Jeremia actually had a pretty good KF, while there is CC with the Lancelot Conquista + Suzaku's Lancelot Albion.
If they understood how Lelouch worked, they would have known that he was more about results than body counts. Lelouch always fought his battles by completing one task at a time, which almost never required the complete annihilation of enemy forces. If not for that oversight, the Black Knights (and Schneizel, for that matter) would have concentrated even more on defending the already beefed-up Damocles than on attacking the Avalon or even fighting the Lancelot. Even if Lelouch was able to counter the FLEIJA, he would have had a harder time storming the Damocles if certain units were devoted to defending the one opening in the shield. But, I guess that hindsight is always 20/20.

The scene is wonderful, it shows the black knights what actually it is like to be under the influence of a geass, showing them that they could never betray them how they did if they were actually mind controlled.
Black knights is the definition of "never bite the hand that feeds you"... they forgot who made them possible and thrive in the first place
I would give Kallen a break, though. She was the only one of the Black Knights who at least tried to understand what Lelouch was after first. It might have been just because she liked him, but since she was closer to Lelouch than the rest of them aside from C.C., Kallen knew there was more to the story than just mind control, fraud, or some crap. She only decided to fight him because he wouldn't give her a reason to stay by his side, and she still wanted to free Japan. That, in my opinion, was an intelligent choice. The rest of them were just trash, not so much for betraying Lelouch after seeing evidence against him, but for siding with Schneizel (knowing that he couldn't be trusted) without any real plan for opposing him after Lelouch was defeated.
Whom ever was in charge of the soundtrack did an amazing job with this scene!

What Schneizel seemed to be doing was what in history is called a bull-horn formation. This was the primary tactic that Zulu warriors used against enemy tribes under the rule of Shaka, needless to say this made the Zulu the mightiest empire of Africa in the time(until the British came in). The tactic consists of dividing the Army into four different sections. It’s called that way because it is said that when Shaka invented this formation, he based this tactic of the face and body of a bull, thus when we draw his formation in paper, the initial formation does look like a bull. The main forces(or the “chest” are centered like in conventional warfare and to head directly into the enemy’s troops. The flank(or the “horns”) are to surround the enemy while they’re busy fighting the chest. Once surrounded, the horns will close the distance and the enemy will be attacked from all directions without relying on Guerrila Warfare. The reserve forces(or the “loins”) are to remain behind the chest as backup if something goes wrong. Schneizel did great employing this technique in mid combat against Lelouch this safely, especially knowing how Lelouch would respond. Still, Lelouch had three different moves to play, and one of them . The most common and safe response to Schneizel’s(or rather Shaka’s) tactic is to temporarily retreat until the horns are in disarray and then attack the center. The other two are just my ideas, and I’m no military strategist, I just gave an example of a historical countermeasure that has worked on the past, considered viable since Lelouch did see on time what Schneizel was doing. The second option is a tactical, a reorganization where the main forces are concentrated in one flank while the secondary forces are distracting the rest of the enemy. Simple yet effective, at least to Frederick the Great; However, the success of this tactic relies on the enemy not knowing when’s going to be deployed, and Lelouch already used something similar, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Schneizel had something planned if Lelouch did that. The third option is the Hammer and Anvil tactic. This formation is very similar to the bull horn formation, but in this case, the main goal is to move your forces behind the enemy force, thus forcing them to focus their fight in two fronts henceforth weakening them. Since Lelouch saw this, he could’ve easily ordered a detachment of his forces to sneak up Schneizel’s unit while he take Schneizel head on, that way, even if the main forces are concentrate, the army will weaken, which in turn mean victory.

Also if the BK didn't fight as well as he did Lelouch would've been able to retreat far enough for A. the enemy forces to be directly above his ground troops which would allow more AA, and B. He could of waited to use Fuji until the Damocles was right above it, I mean I'm no expert but that sudden explosion would probably take out the Fleja launch tube and damage other systems, but it likely wouldn't destroy it outright, allowing Lelouch to retrieve Nunally.

And that means he had to pressure it so he couldn't retreat or Deamochlaes could get some extra time and as we saw every second mattered.
